Back in July, the DROIDX2 received 2nd-init support – like original DX users had been enjoying – bringing with it the ability to flash custom ROMs. The only problem has been that there aren’t a ton of developers working on it, so ROMs have been scarce for the most part. Thankfully, one dev in particular (navenedrob) has decided to start pulling from the massive list of Atrix ROMs and port them over to the DX2. With both devices running pretty similar specs and chipsets, it shouldn’t be long now before you all have more than a couple of choices. First up is a stock Android 2.3.4 ROM to get you feeling unBlurred again.

Actually, this method should root just about any Motorola phone running Gingerbread. So not only will it work on the DROID3, DROID2, DROIDX2, and DROIDX, but it should also work on the DROID Pro and D2 Global when they receive an update – hopefully the DROID Bionic too. We were inspired to write this for the simple fact that the D2 received Gingerbread last night finally, and within 5 minutes I was rooted.
Thanks to Framework43 and psouza4 for putting this together. It couldn’t be any simpler than this method right here. (more…)
With the release of the Gingerbread update for the DROIDX2, many of you have been waiting for an official SBF to pop up in case you run into any dark corners while either trying to root or flash something to it. Thanks to daywalker04 over at XDA, it is now available.
File this one away, you never know when you might need a full SBF.

Cheers Tpags for the heads up!
With the new Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) build for the DROIDX2 arriving to soak test members, we also welcome in a pre-rooted version for those of you who wish to continue on with superuser access. Our buddy @P3droid put in work as he always does to make sure you can all stay current without losing root, something that has yet to be officially gained on 2.3 builds for any Motorola device. What I mean by that, is if you update to 2.3 and lose root, there are no current methods to root except to SBF back to 2.2 and then install a pre-rooted build.
Update: I stand corrected, the Atrix on 2.3.4 has been rooted.
The good news is that you can apparently (haven’t tested myself) still SBF back to 2.2 even on this latest 2.3 build for the DX2. We had a feeling that Moto would lock us out, but they have at least left us one ounce of rooting safety.
Go get some! (more…)
The DROIDX2 Gingerbread update is only rolling out to members of Motorola’s soak test at this time, and we’ve got a first look at it thanks to the amazing group of readers we have here at Droid Life. Verizon’s support tweeted yesterday that the update was rolling out, but we haven’t heard from anyone not in the test group that has received it (that includes our device). The full rollout will likely begin some time this weekend assuming there are no major bugs found during this initial test.
So what do we have inside? Well, it’s only Android 2.3.3 which means that you won’t see the fancy new 3D-esque Blur or lockscreen that can be found on the DROID3 and DROID Bionic. It did update the icon set to match those two devices, but for the most part, will look exactly like the previous version of blue Blur that you all had on 2.2.2. Gingerbread though, is unbelievably good. You’ll more than likely notice immediately that your phone is faster and more stable thanks to the tweaks that have been made by the Android team.
Below, we have a benchmark, the About screen and a couple of additional looks to tide you over until the mass rollout starts. (more…)
Update: Our friends at Verizon have reached out to tell us that this is no longer happening. Since the ED05 update is going out and will fix the issue, there is no need for a swap.
If your Samsung Fascinate is suffering from an inability to accept calls after receiving its latest update, then you may be entitled to a certified like-new replacement from Verizon. According to reports, Big Red is willing to hand over a DROIDX2, Incredible 2 or DROID Charge if they deem your phone to be worthless. So, to the Fascinate owners in the building that have been more than frustrated with their devices after receiving ED04 because it broke one its primary functions, head on into a store.
According to Verizon support and contrary to reports yesterday, the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update for the DROIDX2 should start rolling out today in batches and will continue on until everyone has it. We just checked ours and it’s not there yet, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be checking like mad. The update, at least in pictures, appears to include the brand new version of Blur that can be seen on the DROID3 and Bionic, along with a whole batch of bug fixes.
We’ve been told that the soak test for Motorola’s private group has begun today, so it wouldn’t surprise us if the mass rollout did not start until Friday. You can view the entire changelog for this update here.
To check to see if the update is available to you, do the following:

*Note – If you are rooted and a DX2 owner, accepting this update might not be the best idea if you plan on being rooted ever again. So far, 2.3 on the DX and D3 have not been rooted. (Cheers for the reminder Lonnie!)
