Trademark filings by Motorola from around the globe for the word “XOOM” have surfaced and are leading many to believe that this is in fact the name of the much anticipated Honeycomb tablet that will be unveiled in just 14 days at CES. Filings were made in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and of course the U.S., so we’re thinking major global push here, right? They did ask if we were all ready to “skip a generation” yesterday and it’s now pretty obvious that this tablet is hoping to change our mobile computing ways forever. I surely hope they succeed.

My only concern is that the name sounds a lot like “Zune.” Or am I just crazy?

The much-anticipated Motorola tablet (Everest) has made another appearance, only this time over at Howard Forums courtesy of user wnrussell. This appears to be the same prototype tablet which we first saw from Andy Rubin last Monday (high-res pictures) only this time we have a couple of additional shots providing a few new bits of critical info. The device is definitely headed to Verizon. If you check out the gallery below, we’ve got Big Red’s name featured as clear, well almost as clear as day, which means this will be the Droid tablet.

Some specs were confirmed: 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA processor, gyroscope, 32GB built in storage, SD card for more, 512MB of RAM, 1280 x 800 screen, mini-HDMI port, camera, and pure awesomeness. This is the tablet you should be saving your money for.

You are looking at a homescreen picture for the Motorola Everest (allegedly), which is the 10″ tablet expected to be headed to Verizon as the “DROID” tablet some time in early 2011. The pic popped up on Mobile01 with a handful of specs from a user claiming to have fondled the device for over an hour. So what does this beauty have packed into it? An NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 2MP front camera, 5MP back camera, gyroscope, 32GB built-in storage plus an SD card slot. The Moto Tablet will also launch as an LTE device, which we’ve heard in the past.

Check out these high-res Motorola Everest pictures from earlier in the week to see what the device actually looks like. Pretty, right?

On Monday night, Andy Rubin surprised all of us when he pulled out a Motorola prototype tablet running Honeycomb (Android 3.0) and a dual-core NVIDIA processor that we’re pretty sure is the Motorola Everest (Stingray/Droid Tablet). This would be the 10″ tablet that will be everywhere at CES in January and hopefully on store shelves by February or March. You can watch video of it in action at this post, but we wanted to make sure you saw this crystal clear shots of it as well.

A few things we’ve gathered from these shots:

A back camera with what looks to be a dual-LED flash.

A centered front-facing camera.

A volume rocker switch on the side.

Absence of home, search, back and menu keys, but we already knew that.

It’s unbelievably thin.

Seriously, that tablet is so thin. I think Motorola just turned a 10″ tablet into a one-handed device. Win.

Did anyone actually think that a day filled with Gingerbread, the Nexus S, an original Droid update, and a Droid X update with Madden could get get better? It did. Last night, at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference, Andy Rubin took to the stage, pulled out a prototype Motorola tablet running Honeycomb (Android 3.0) and went to town. He talked about so many things that may seem minor, but are so huge in the broad scheme of things.

Here are some of the bombs he dropped:

Pulled out what appeared to be the 10″ Motorola tablet. This bad boy was ultra thin, looked incredibly light and had an amazing screen.

This tablet does not have home, back, menu and search keys. The buttons you press are ALL on-screen, which means they follow you around as you rotate the device.

Showed the new Honeycomb lock screen which had a fantastic new animation. No more swiping bars left or right in Android 3.0. (Pictured above)

When he unlocked it, he had Google Talk open and mentioned video icons being visible.

He showed off Google Maps 5 which will have 3D views of cities. It should be out for mobile devices in a few days.

The new tablet Gmail app was displayed. Two columns included: one for your inbox and one to view an email.

Honeycomb and this tablet will be out some time next year.

Honeycomb will be able to run on both phones and tablets. It’s not just specific to tablets although the apps are able to run in their own specific ways depending on the device.

He also mentioned that this prototype probably costs $10,000. Hah.

Full video of his time on stage after the break, plus some screenshots.

Further confirmation that CES will be the coming out party for NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 Android tablets came out today through DigiTimes. Their report suggests that NVIDIA beat all of the other dual-core chip manufacturers like Qualcomm to the punch, landing Motorola, LG and HTC as clients and plans to show all of their work off during the first week of January. The CES unveiling of devices from these companies will be something to see and the whole Droid Life team will be there bringing it all to you.

Reports also suggest that Motorola and LG are targeting February and March of 2011 as a release period for their dual-core tablets, running Honeycomb (Android 3.0). If this seems far away, just remember that NVIDIA’s CEO said that they want everything to be perfect at launch if any of these companies are going to compete with the i*ad.

I should also mention after poking a couple of our sources, that the Motorola tablet WILL NOT be called the “MOTOPAD” and if it launches as a 7″ device, I will be more than surprised. Everything I’ve heard over the last 3-4 months definitely suggests that it will launch with Honeycomb, but you should envision this as a 10″ device and nothing smaller.

According to Mobile-Review.com’s Eldar Murtazin, Motorola will get to release the first Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet come next year. While the rest of the world took his tweet as meaning it would be called the “MOTOPAD”, we’re assuming he’s just using that name since an official one hasn’t been outed. Trust us when we say that it will be filed under the DROID brand and I highly doubt it’ll actually be called the “MOTOPAD.” Oh rumors.

While the 7″ size comes as a big surprise to me, you may want to hold out thoughts on that as I can almost guarantee you that a 10″ version will be their flagship and baby.

There have been rumors floating around for months that suggest the push back of big holiday Android tablet releases like the Motorola Stingray, was due to delays in Google’s Android 3.0 tablet OS (Gingerbread? Honeycomb?). Those rumors continue to be for the most part true as the Samsung Tab (running Froyo) is currently the only one that has been announced for 2010 and unless something major pops up, will be it. Today though, a new rumor says Google is locking down December as a release period for their tablet OS and has already notified manufacturers, meaning we’ll likely see an onslaught of devices at CES in January.

In related news, Android 4.0 (Honeycomb? Ice Cream?) is now rumored to be ready in mid-2011, but we’re not about to start speculating on what that means or what it’ll run on.

Since we’re not seeing a ton of love for the proposed Android holiday lineup on Verizon, are we all just setting our sights on January?

A new Verizon roadmap of sorts has leaked out from a variety of sources through Engadget and we’ve grabbed the major bullet points which affect your Droid lives. The entire roadmap basically highlighted every Android device expected to hit VZW over the next few months, but we picked out the “Droid” friendly ones.

Here is what the new rumors suggest…

Motorola Droid Pro tentatively scheduled for late October or early November. It’s listed as having a 1.3GHz processor, Froyo, global radios, and Flash 10. We still have every reason to believe this is the phone we’ve been calling the Droid 2 World Edition (or Global Edition), but it’s unclear whether it’ll replace the Droid 2 altogether.

HTC Merge / Lexicon / Lexikon coming in late October / early November, too. Don’t be fooled: all of these code names refer to the same device, and even Verizon’s communication uses both “Merge” and “Lexicon” interchangeably. As expected, it’s a global phone with a 1GHz Snapdragon.

Motorola Stingray tablet in Q1 of 2011. Now this is interesting. We’d previously thought the Stingray would be a smaller tablet, but it now seems it’ll be a full 10 inches with Android 3.0 Gingerbread, 16GB of on-board storage, and Tegra 2. Oh, but that’s not the best part: it’ll also be “hardware upgradeable to LTE,” initially launching with CDMA alone. Whether that means you’ll need to purchase and insert some sort of module or something, we’re not exactly sure.

What can we make of this? Word from our sources after the break.

Let’s just say that through our sources, we can confirm almost all of this including a few additional details.

The “Droid Pro” to our knowledge will actually be called the Droid 2 Global, hence the reason we’ve been using that term for the last month. It is also expected to replace the original Droid 2 altogether.

The Stingray tablet has always been a 10″ tablet. It will run Google’s custom Android tablet OS which has not been confirmed yet to be called “Gingerbread” and could still be “Honeycomb.” Q1 is when you should expect this though. We also fully expect this to carry the “Droid” name when finalized.

So we’re really just waiting for Q1 2011 then right? Unless Motorola has a secret device up their sleeves, we aren’t going to see a big holiday splash to ramp up the Droid line again. I guess we’re stuck with the Samsung Tab?

Not that I want to blatantly come out and call Motorola CEO, Sanjay Jha a liar, but after reading what he had to say at yesterday’s Deutsche Bank Tech Conference in regards to the rumored Droid tablet, it’s hard not to…

“I will only develop a tablet if it is sufficiently compelling. Hopefully, that is early next year.”

We’ll just have to assume he found it “sufficiently compelling” a few of months ago since most of us know this is already in development (Codenamed Stingray?). In fact, we can also almost guarantee that some are in the hands of testers at this very time and that hardware and even a lot of the specs are starting to be finalized. The “early next year” comments though, do fall in line with everything we’ve heard, so we’ll just take this not-in-development talk as being out of context.

Looking forward to that Q1 release Sanny!

According to Haleron’s Twitter account, this new “DROID” tablet launched today as a 10″ Android 2.1 representing beast! Oh, it even offers the “new Flash browser for full internet browsing.” No not Flash from Adobe, but Skyfire. Yeah, it gets better. Sporting 256MB of RAM and a 1.0GMHz processor (GMHz?) this thing should really fly especially with it’s browser, Internet Explorer. (Stop laughing.) And let’s not forget that the dedicated i*ad inspired button on the front gives it that extra beauty that we were desperately in need of. I’m sold.

Check out the “DROID 10″ here.
