The Droid Pro is now receiving its official update to build 4.7.3. It may not be Ice Cream Sandwich, but at least it’s something. You will notice better backlighting for your keyboard, the addition of updated VCAST apps and VZ Navigator apps, plus a handful of other helpful bug fixes. Go grab it and let us know if you notice any other mentionable fixes.

A new Motorola DROID Pro update has been approved by Verizon as build 4.7.3. It’s not Ice Cream Sandwich, and it probably never will be, but it does address a handful of bugs including better keyboard backlighting. V CAST apps and VZ Navigator will also be loaded once the update is received.

When these changelogs go live, you can usually expect to see the update hit your handset within a week.

Blue Blur is upon you DROID Pro owners! After months of waiting following a 2.3.3 May tease, the Pro will join the rest of Motorola’s lineup in the Gingerbread ranks. And now that I think about it, is this the last of them? Let me get this straight – Motorola managed to update their entire portfolio of phones to Gingerbread before Samsung could get either the Fascinate or Charge on it? And I’m going to attempt to not even mention the Thunderbolt and Incredible debacles. Got to give it up to Moto for that at least.

If you own a Pro, you are in for a completely different experience than what you have grown accustomed to over the last year. The UI is now blue, but the biggest part of this update is the stability and speed that comes with Gingerbread. Welcome to the party!

As for a time of release, we just heard from a reader who received it yesterday. Head on into Settings>About phone>System updates and see if you are greeted with kindness.

DROID Pro Gingerbread Update is Ready, Rolling Out Now? is a post from: Droid Life

Actually, this method should root just about any Motorola phone running Gingerbread.  So not only will it work on the DROID3, DROID2, DROIDX2, and DROIDX, but it should also work on the DROID Pro and D2 Global when they receive an update – hopefully the DROID Bionic too.  We were inspired to write this for the simple fact that the D2 received Gingerbread last night finally, and within 5 minutes I was rooted.

Thanks to Framework43 and psouza4 for putting this together.  It couldn’t be any simpler than this method right here.  

Download:  MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip

Instructions:

1.  Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2.  Download the MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip file from above and unzip it to your Windows PC.
3.  On your phone go into  Settings>Applications>Development and check the box for USB Debugging.
4.  Plug phone into your computer and select “Charge Only” mode.
5.  Navigate to MotorolaOneClickRoot folder and run MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe.
6.  Follow the instructions in the command window.
7.  Your phone will complete 3 steps, rebooting along the way.  When it finishes, you will be rooted.

How to: Root the DROID2, DROIDX2, DROIDX, and DROID3 Running Gingerbread is a post from: Droid Life

It’s been almost 2 weeks since we first reported that the DROID2 Global‘s Gingerbread (Android 2.3) soak test was about to begin, yet here we sit today without a mass rollout or announcement from Verizon/Moto that the file is available.  Let’s also not forget that the DROID Pro was primed and ready at one point, but has seemingly disappeared from sight.  After the original DROIDX received GB all the way back in May, we were expecting each additional Moto device including the DROID2, DROIDX2, Pro, and Global to start seeing updates right away – except that isn’t happening.

What we’ve been told is that Verizon has now rejected all Gingerbread builds from Moto until they have worked out a number of bugs that came with the DROIDX’s 2.3, a list which seems to be growing by the day.  There is no telling when these will all be ready, but we’re our sources say that Motorola is reassembling teams to get this taken care of.  It could be weeks or months before we start seeing GB on other devices – we really have no idea at this point.

Well, I’ve got to admit that even I didn’t see this one coming.  I had been hearing word that Gingerbread for the DROID2, DROID2 Global and DROID Pro were all finished, but no way did I think the Pro would see it before those other two.  With the DROIDX spending the majority of the weekend receiving official Android 2.3, it seems only fitting that some of the other devices in the Moto lineup would be close behind – this just seems really close.

We have no idea why two of our readers opened up their System Updates page today and had this waiting for them, but I’d suggest that all of our DP readers jump to it immediately before Moto pulls it from their servers.  Sorry DROID2 owners, it looks like you aren’t next after all.  We’ll be keeping a close eye on some specific Verizon pages though to see if we can pull up any additional info.  We’re still trying to figure out if this is just a freak thing, or if Moto really meant for this to start rolling out.

Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) Starts Rolling Out for the DROID Pro? New Blur Version 4.6.4 Finds Two Readers’ Phones is a post from: Droid Life

Motorola’s Support forums are alive today with talk of the impending DROIDX Gingerbread (Android 2.3) “soak” that we first reported on over the weekend.  Many users are worried that ActiveSync will still be broken, but Moto employees are assuring us all that it has been fixed this time around.  I’d have attempted to confirm this on all of the leaks, but I’m a Gmail man and will have to rely on all of your input for that in the comments.

What might be even more important though, is the confirmation that the rest of the DROID series that was introduced last year will also all be receiving 2.3 in the near future.  The DX is first (which is not surprising) and will be updated by the “end of the second quarter”, although we’re thinking it’ll be much sooner than that with user testing going on this week.  Afterwards, the DROID Pro and both DROID2′s will receive it some time “before the end of the third quarter.”  And to add to that thought, we’ve been told that almost all of the GB builds for these devices have been completed, but as always is up to VZW to approve them.

Update:  It looks like that Moto employee is probably receiving a firm spankin’ as his comments have been edited by the forums’ manager.  Luckily our friends at Phandroid grabbed a screenshot before it was changed.

An update for the DROID Pro appears to be ready for launch and will bring the device up to Blur version 3.8.7.XT610 which isn’t Gingerbread, but does appear to be a new numbering scheme for Blur.  After the 43.8MB update, you’ll see much better ActiveSync support and the VCAST Appstore along with some other tweaks to the corporate side of things.  Feel free to head into Settings>About>System Updates to see if the update is ready.

If you own a Droid 2 Global or Droid Pro and plan on doing any rooting, ROMing or tweaking, then you’ll love this bit of news from our friends over at My Droid World.  The SBF files for both devices went live today, so you may want to go download them immediately before they are gone forever.

For those not familiar, SBF files are used any time your device hits a state of unrecoverability (that a word?).  An SBF flashed using a program called RSD Lite will wipe your phone back to its stock state, which is like having a brand new, out-of-the-box Droid.  The files are normally used by carriers to wipe phones before sending them off for warranties and such, but if you can have one in your back pocket, it may come in handy should you do something horrible to your phone.

Of course, we do not recommend that you do anything out of the ordinary to your phone and cannot recommend that you even try using one of these files.  We’re just letting you know that they are out there.

The Droid Pro (our review) is the latest family member to receive an update.  With so many devices out now, seems like one pops up each week, and of course, we’re not complaining.  This one appears to be pretty minor, weighs in at about 15.9MB and looks to improve a bunch of stuff.  If you’d like to tell your phone to pull the update immediately, head to Settings>About Phone>System Updates on your device and it should be waiting for you.  

Improvements:

+ Improved audio on voice calls.
+ Improved stability and performance.
+ User interface display now refreshes when user switches from GSM/UMTS communication to Global Mode.
+ Device now prepends 011 to Country Code to send SMS messages.
+ Global Mode no longer resets when connecting to a USB charger.
+ Visual Voice Mail now detects airplane mode while Wi-Fi is active.
+ Prompt return to full screen brightness after wake-up

We got word yesterday from a reader that Best Buy was no longer selling the Droid Pro (our review) and Droid 2 Global and thought, “Wow, that’s odd…what’s the story BB?”  Well according to reports this morning, they may have been “recalled” by Verizon and not because of some defect.  No, we’re hearing that Verizon was upset at the ridiculously low pricing that BB was offering both devices at which may have broken some sort of contract between the two.  Sounds like no one was buying phones from Big Red and they pulled inventory from BB.  Drama.
