This random DROID2 screenshot popped into our inbox last night from a source without a name, and we have no idea what it could be. The screenshot looks fairly legit leading us to believe this popped up erroneously on this person’s device, but we can’t confirm that without a way to contact them. You can see a mention of version 2.3.20 which is the current Blur for the D2, but that “Delta Package” note is sure something new and interesting. And version 34.0.113 at the top doesn’t match up at all to the current naming convention and instead looks a lot closer to the new Blur naming convention you can see in our BIONIC hands-on video. Seriously, I have no idea what this could be, but would love for the sender to let us know if they were able to install it. Of course, it could also be fake.
Poor special edition R2-D2 DROID 2. It’s now available for $99 after instant discount and having started it’s short life at $249. The device was supposed to sell out in minutes and even had parties thrown in its honor, but that apparently wasn’t enough to move the “limited” numbers available. Anyone interested?

We broke the news yesterday that the R2-D2 Droid 2 had seen a price drop to $199 and this morning, Verizon started telling the rest of world about it. Anyone on the VZW DROID email list should have received this email some time today to try to get them to buy this limited edition Droid. They even made it sound like the device would be sold as a “gift set” that includes a desk charger, ear buds and more, when we all know that stuff came with it from the beginning. Drop that bad boy to $99 and I may think about it.
Cheers Aaron and all others!
The Droid 2 is featured in a new Rhapsody commercial called “Awesomer” that actually is awesome. The commercial is flat out silly, but when anyone uses the word “awesome” while referring to a Droid family member and then follows that up with the word “awesomer”, you’ve hooked us. We enjoy simple fun and this commercial is just that. Wait, does anyone use Rhapsody? (more…)
According to reports out of Fox in Dallas, a man and his brand new Droid 2 are no longer friends. After a heated exchange while attempting to get into his car, the D2 decided to ignite its eFuse in order to blow a hole in the side of the man’s head that would require 4 stitches. This man obviously doesn’t read Droid Life or he would have know that the bootloader on these Blur devices isn’t meant to be taken lightly.
OK all jokes aside. This guy really believes that his Droid 2 exploded in his ear. Of course we are all questioning the entire story especially since the guy admits to having zero health insurance, called in the local news to cover his story and is hoping that Motorola will help with the medical costs. He’s also already contacted a lawyer. Another McDonald’s hot coffee story in the making?
The phone still works though! DROID 1. Man 0.

If you are shopping for a new Droid phone and you happen to find yourself hovering your mouse over the original Droid 2 on Verizon’s website, you may be in for a surprise. As you can see in the shot above, the phone is listed as having a 1.2GHz processor which is currently only available in the new and still unannounced Droid 2 Global. Our first thought was, “Will an update clock the D2’s OMAP up to 1.2GHz?” I mean after all, the DX, D2 and D2G all run th exact same processor, but for whatever reason Motorola decided to pump the global version up a little. The answer is “maybe”, but not something we should all hold our breath for.
What discounts this whole idea though, is the fact that the little hovering action also displays a “Global Capacity” highlight which we all know is false. The original D2 definitely doesn’t have a GSM radio in it.
How long before this gets fixed?
See it for yourself at Verizon’s site.
This might be the pre-holiday deal of the century. If you had been holding out from buying one of the Droid branded phones, then hopefully this will be reason enough to pull out the credit card and join the most dominant family in the Android game. Actually, you don’t even need to pull out a credit card since they are all only a single penny. Yep, 1 cent for the Droid X. 1 cent for the Incredible. 1 cent for the brand new Droid Pro.
The deal lasts until the 29th of this month assuming supplies last.
Head over to Amazon now to grab them!
You are looking at screenshots from a Droid 2 running an updated version of Blur that appears to include “Profiles” like we’ve seen on the Droid Pro, tethering which is always removed before release, and that ugly stock Blur launcher seen only on low end or non-DROID branded phones. We have no idea when this update could come or if it ever will, but it gives you an idea as to what Motorola is working on anyway. Seriously though, the tethering will be gone and we can only hope that the launcher gets skinned in the near future. (more…)
