DROID 2 Global owners, download this SBF file and stash the file somewhere safe. If you are the type to try and flash ROM’s and gain root, then you may have heard that after the newest .629 firmware update, any attempt at SBF’ing to an earlier build would have resulted in some very unpleasant outcomes such as bricked and dead phones. Thankfully, developers now have their hands on the official SBF and have tweaked it so that you can unbrick your devices and even root the phone through a pretty simple set of instructions.

Official DROID 2 Global .629 SBF Made Available, Will Unbrick Your Device is a post from: Droid Life

A new update has been approved for the DROID 2 Global, bringing with it a series of bug fixes for a number of issues. Once this 4.5.629 build goes live and you have installed it, your camera settings will save, less out of memory errors will appear, and certain app resets will have gone away. Stability is the topic at hand here.

We have been searching around the Interwebz trying to make sure everyone is able to enjoy Ice Cream Sandwich as much the next person.  The underground developers are working hard to bring CyanogenMod 9 to as many devices as possible and the DROID 2 Global is the newest phone on the list.  It may not be daily driver stable, but at least we know that Moto’s locked hardware is still receiving love from the community.

Have any DROIDX owners been enjoying the EncounterICS ROM we posted a week ago?  Then make sure you download the newest beta version which has been receiving tons of love from the community. It now has working MMS, but still lacks camera functionality.

Custom CM9 ROMs Becoming More Stable For DROID2 Global and DROIDX is a post from: Droid Life

All you great DROID 2 Global owners can starting waving your DROID flags again today, as the 4.5.608 update is now being rolled out (again) for users. All the way back in September we saw the update begin to roll out, then we heard it had been put on hold. Last week looked promising as it had started to roll out again, but then got another axe.

Now here we are in mid October, letting you know the 4.5.608 (changelog here) is ready to be pulled on your devices. Do we have any D2G users here who have been able to pull the update? Let’s hope everything has been fixed.

DROID 2 Global 4.5.608 Update Resumes After Minor Delay is a post from: Droid Life

We had almost forgotten about the DROID2 Global and its Gingerbread update getting pulled back in September over an Exchange encryption issue when a new support document showed up in our inbox. Everything must be squared away now, as the new build of 4.5.608 has been approved and should be made available shortly. Normally when these support documents arrive, the update shows up within a week or so. Well, unless you have the Incredible or Thunderbolt that is.

DROID2 Global Gingerbread Update Returns, Exchange Encryption Issue Fixed is a post from: Droid Life

If you had not received the DROID2 Global Gingerbread update yet (which was rolling out this week), then don’t expect to see it for the next week or so.  The Moto team, along with soak test members, have discovered a Microsoft Exchange encryption issue that needs to be addressed.  According to their forums manager, the issue has been pinpointed, but it will take some time to fix it and then push out again as an update.  Hang in there.

And to those of you that have already received it, I will just assume that a minor update will be issued to you.

DROID2 Global Gingerbread Update Stopped Again, This Time to Fix Exchange Encryption Issue is a post from: Droid Life

If you own a DROID2 Global and are completely stock, you will want to cruise into Settings>About phone>System updates and grab the Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update for your device now.  The update was originally supposed to roll out back in June, but after Motorola realized that they needed to refine their 2.3 builds a bit, it was pulled.  With the changelog for the update returning last week though, and with a bunch of additional enhancements, we knew we were close.  ”Close” just so happened to be this weekend.

Everyone receive it?  All we have left now is the DROID Pro.

DROID2 Global Gingerbread 4.5.607 Update Rolling Out to All is a post from: Droid Life

Actually, this method should root just about any Motorola phone running Gingerbread.  So not only will it work on the DROID3, DROID2, DROIDX2, and DROIDX, but it should also work on the DROID Pro and D2 Global when they receive an update – hopefully the DROID Bionic too.  We were inspired to write this for the simple fact that the D2 received Gingerbread last night finally, and within 5 minutes I was rooted.

Thanks to Framework43 and psouza4 for putting this together.  It couldn’t be any simpler than this method right here.

Instructions:

1.  Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2.  Download the MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip file from above and unzip it to your Windows PC.
3.  On your phone go into  Settings>Applications>Development and check the box for USB Debugging.
4.  Plug phone into your computer and select “Charge Only” mode.
5.  Navigate to MotorolaOneClickRoot folder and run MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe.
6.  Follow the instructions in the command window.
7.  Your phone will complete 3 steps, rebooting along the way.  When it finishes, you will be rooted.

The Gingerbread update for the DROID2 Global has finally returned after a 3 month bug fixing hiatus.  We reported over the weekend that a soak test for the update was set to begin some time in early September and are now seeing the changelog for it reappear.  Nothing has changed at least on paper, but you can bet that all of the fixes that were included in the latest DROIDX update were patched into this.

So that puts 2.3 on the DX, D2 (soak test began last night), D2 Global, DX2, and DROID3.  All we have left now from Motorola is the Pro.  Oh, no word on the Incredible update at this time – it’s still delayed to our knowledge.

Changelog for DROID2 Global Gingerbread Update has Returned is a post from: Droid Life

After the DROIDX received Gingerbread back in May, the DROID2 Global was selected by Motorola to be next in line.  Unfortunately for Global owners, the update was pulled the very same day that it was supposed to start rolling out, thanks to an enormous buglist that was introduced through the DX.  Well, here we are almost 3 months later and the update is back and ready for prime time – at least to soak test members anyway.

The initial test group of D2G owners will see the update some time in September (probably next week), with the full rollout happening shortly thereafter.

Once this puppy rolls out, we’ll only have the DROID Pro and Charge left as “DROID” branded phones without Android 2.3.  Still no word on the Thunderbolt.

DROID2 Global’s Gingerbread Update Soak Test Set to Begin in September is a post from: Droid Life

The DROID2 Global was supposed to receive Gingerbread back in June, but after Motorola realized that the build they had released for the DROIDX was filled with far too many critical bugs, they pulled it.  Well, thanks to fantastic Android community member aceoyame, we have a leaked version 4.5.606 to try out.

*Note:  This file has not yet been rooted.  Also, in order to flash this file, you will have to return back to stock 2.4.330 without root or custom recovery.

*Note 2:  If you update and decide you want to revert back for root or to get the official update, you can still SBF back to 2.4.330 after this.

To run this update, be sure you are on 2.4.330 with stock recovery.  Rename the file above to update.zip, drop it on your SD card and boot into recovery by holding X+Power.  Then choose to update.

Gingerbread Build for the DROID2 Global Leaks is a post from: Droid Life

The DROID2 Global was poised to get its Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update back in the middle of June, which we were hoping was the start to a massive update schedule for all Moto devices.  As many of you know now though, that never happened.  We were told that the update had been pulled from rollout for not only the D2G, but for other devices including the DROID2 and DROID Pro while the massive bug list that was piling up from the DROIDX’s GB was being worked on.

Our report seems to have received a minor confirmation today thanks to one of our readers who noticed that the D2G’s VZW support page has been reverted back to a previous update PDF.  There is no longer a mention of Gingerbread being ready for it and we’re being told that it could be a while.  There is an update for the DX which includes a ton of fixes in the works right now, but it could be until after that clears that Moto and Big Red start prepping updates for the D2, D2G and Pro.

We’re also assuming that they will wait to see what happens with the DROIDX2′s update that should hit “soak test” members in the next few days.

DROID2 Global Gingerbread Info Removed From Verizon’s Site, Could Be a While Before it’s Ready is a post from: Droid Life

We just received confirmation that the DROID3 will launch July 7 for direct fill orders and hit stores on the 14, but wanted to also pass along this chart that shows the evolution of the slide-out DROID brand starting all the way back with the OG.  Pretty amazing to think that in under 2 years, we’ve gone from 600MHz to a 1GHz dual-core processor with HDMI mirroring, 1080p recording, a front camera for video chats, and an extra row of number keys yet managed to lose some thickness.

Too bad they couldn’t slip in a 4G LTE radio though…

Evolution of DROID: Original DROID vs. DROID2 vs. DROID2 Global vs. DROID3 is a post from: Droid Life

The Gingerbread update for the DROID2 Global was primed and ready to rock back on June 15, but for reasons we have been led to believe were due to bugs that needed to be worked out by Motorola, it was pulled.  Some conspiracy theorists would argue against that after seeing this note from a D3 training document that just popped up.

Would Verizon and Moto really hold back 2.3 to make the D3 look a little more appealing?  Not likely.  In fact, no where in that note does it mention that as a reason, nor does it mention that the D2G’s GB is even ready.  It’s “expected” to be ready which means they still have work to do on it.  Also, if Moto is holding back updates to launch their newest slide-out with the newest software available, why’d they already give it to the DROIDX and skip the DX2?  Exactly.

To help out the D3 side of the argument though, they did release the original DROID as the first with 2.0 and the DROID2 as the first on Verizon with 2.2, so they could try to do the same with this phone.  Although, it would make most of us DX owners a little uncomfortable to see them running around bragging about 2.3 on a phone when we’ve all had it for weeks.  The D3 is launching with a newer version of Blur though, so…who knows.

What we do know is that the GB builds currently available from Moto are filled with bugs – and once they get them all worked out, they’ll be made available to their entire lineup of 2010 devices including the D2, D2G, Pro and DX2.
