Verizon and Motorola are gearing up to announce the DROID M, a mid-range device that you can see pictured above. The device was previously only known by the name XT907, but we also referred to it as the RAZR Mini. It passed through the FCC not long ago, and should sport a qHD display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4G LTE and NFC. The device will come in both black and white and sell for $149 on 2-year contract.

BGR is reporting that it will have an HD display, but I think their source is confusing this phone with the actual RAZR HD. They will more than likely unveil both devices in New York on September 5.

According to TechCrunch, Verizon has blocked employees from taking vacations between September 21 and September 30 because the next iPhone will launch during that time. Their source didn’t specifically mention that the iPhone was indeed launching on the 21st, but since everyone is expecting Apple to announce the phone on September 12, a launch of a week later matches up to previous releases.

So why do we care? Well, because Motorola has told us all to save September 5 on our calendars because they would like to announce something as well. Thanks to Moto employees on photo sharing and benchmark sites, the FCC, and video tutorial leaks, we are essentially expecting it to be for the DROID RAZR HD, a top tier phone, and the XT907 (Mini?), a mid-tier phone similar to the Atrix HD and original DROID RAZR.

Am I alone in asking, “What the hell are you thinking, Motorola?” Don’t get me wrong, Moto will have the attention of the world on September 5 because the smartphone industry is beyond boring right now. But the next week, most of the world is going to forget about whatever it is that they just announced thanks to the new iPhone. Assuming Moto does the standard Android release and announces it 2 months before allowing it to be sold in stores, maybe it will eventually show up in October and iPhone sales will have cooled off? Not likely?

I definitely do not envy any of the Android manufacturers who are going to try to make a buck in the 4th quarter of 2012. Apple has positioned themselves to completely destroy the game again. Well, maybe HTC’s 1080p phone, codenamed dlx (also headed to Verizon), will arrive and steal the show? Ugh.

Thankfully, I’m not in the business of trying to sell Android phones in the same quarter as a new iPhone. I’m simply in the business of enjoying all things Android and sharing it with all of you.

The Motorola XT907, which we have decided to call the “Mini RAZR,” cruised through the FCC today, sporting Verizon’s 4G LTE bands and NFC. We first saw this device pictured through a Chinese part site just over a month ago. Once you go look at that picture, you’ll know why we are calling it the “Mini” and expect it to be a mid-range phone.

Not much else is known about the device, but thanks to a UAProf for a another Moto phone by the model number XT905, we have a pretty good idea. The display is qHD, and has on-screen navigation keys. It likely runs on a Snapdragon S4 processor and may come in white, similarly to the Atrix HD.

If these specs end up being legit, I’m trying to figure out what on Earth Motorola is thinking. It’s just a DROID RAZR, but with NFC and on-screen keys. Do we really need another RAZR variant?

Time to fire up the rumor engines on another yet-to-be-released Motorola phone, this time for the XT907. “What is the XT907,” you ask? Well, according to the picture above of a housing for the device, it looks like yet another RAZR-ish phone headed to Verizon with 4G LTE radios inside. It sports an HD camera, that same kevlar backing we have seen on a number of Moto devices, and looks a bit like a mash-up of the RAZR HD and the new Atrix HD.

Thanks to a UAProf that surfaced for a device by the model number XT905, we could see this device with a qHD resolution that includes on-screen navigation keys. The resolution showing in this UAProf is listed as 540×888. Now, a qHD display normally runs 540×960, but the row of navigation keys takes up a number, dropping that to 888. Not many other details are really known, but we are wondering if it could come in white, has very little bezel, and runs a Snapdragon S4 processor – sort of like the Atrix.

We should also point out that the original RAZR is model number XT912. That puts this device below it in the numbering scheme, so one could imagine that this might be a budget-friendly or mid-range type of device. RAZR+ or RAZR Plus, perhaps?

And as you all know, the RAZR HD is model number XT926.

Thoughts?
