AT&T, essentially admitting that the insanely high prices that carriers have been charging you for tiered data over the last couples of years was highway robbery, is now offering double the data on its plans that range from 15GB to 50GB for the same price…for life. That’s right, if you pay for a 15GB plan, you can now get 30GB of data for the exact same price for as long as you want – there is no expiration. Same thing goes for 20GB, 30GB, 40GB, and 50GB plans; all have been doubled without a price adjustment. For $130 per month (plus the line access charges), you can have 30GB of data to gobble up per month on up to 10 lines. Or, you could up to 40GB ($150), 60GB ($225), 80GB ($300), and 100GB ($375) at the prices you have been paying. (more…)
According to info we received from friends of ours at Verizon, their newest Double Data promotion will end tomorrow, June 5. If you are wondering about the timing, consider the fact that the Samsung Galaxy SIII goes up for pre-order the following day, June 6. The last date we were given pegged June 3 as the end of the promo, but apparently VZW was giving you an extra couple of days to get in on the deal.
From June 6 going forward, you will only get 2GB of data for $30 rather than the 4GB for $30 that new customers are currently enjoying. (more…)
Multiple sources reached out to us this morning to let us know that Verizon is planning to shut down their latest Double Data promo by June 3. That gives you just under a month to lock into 4GB of data for $30, 10GB for $50, or 20GB for $80. After the 3rd, data plans will likely drop back to 2GB, 5GB and 10GB for those same prices.
Would be nice of Big Red to at least launch the Incredible 4G LTE before that time so that customers have something “2012” to consider. With its announcement happening this morning, it should be out by then.
Cheers ___ and ___!
Tiered data plans are here for good and yes, it is unfortunate. Thankfully, many of us were able to keep our unlimited plans back when tiers were introduced, however, we would be foolish to believe that we will have them forever. We haven’t been given a time frame as to when our grandfathered plans will run out, but you can imagine that it could happen in the very near future. We know that family share plans will be here this summer, which might also be a perfect opportunity for VZW to cut off unlimited for good.
When that time comes, and if family plans aren’t of interest, you will have to pick a tier. Verizon is currently running another of their “double data” promos that would get you into 4GB of data for $30 a month, a price that beats almost any other carrier’s tiers. We have already seen one of these promos come and go, so it’s not like Big Red is scared to run them from time to time. Let’s just hope that they plan to run one again on the day of reckoning.
And on that day, you may be worried that it won’t be enough. It certainly won’t be for those that tether on the regular, but if you take VZW’s word in the infographic below, most of you may have more data than you know what to do with. (more…)
Today is a great day to think about picking up a new 4G LTE smartphone from Verizon. Not only do you have the new DROID 4 (our hands-on) to consider, but you can buy a DROID RAZR and receive a 2nd one for free through a BOGO deal that just went live. We were told that the RAZR MAXX would also be a part of this BOGO promo, but VZW’s site doesn’t necessarily reflect that up front. Oh, and if you are a new customer, Big Red will double your 4G LTE data plan from 2GB to 4GB or 5GB to 10GB at regular pricing.
Starting Friday (yes, the same day that the DROID 4 goes on sale), Verizon will re-launch their “Double Data” promo for 4G LTE devices. As long as you purchase a new LTE device and add on at minimum a $30 data package, Big Red will double your data amount for the same price. Their 2GB, 5GB, and 10GB plans will turn into 4GB, 10GB, and 20GB plans without a jump in price. No time frame details were given to us, but this promo won’t last forever. The last time VZW introduced “Double Data,” customers were able to double up from early November to mid-January.
In related news, a buy-one-get-one free (BOGO) deal will go live that same day for the DROID RAZR and the RAZR MAXX. Priced at $199 and $299 respectively, this will be one of the better deals we have seen from Verizon in a long time. The RAZR MAXX is all of 3 weeks old and at least in our minds, is one of the top Android smartphones ever (our full review). Whether you are a new or existing customer, you may want to consider jumping into action on Friday.
On November 8, Verizon kicked off a new “double data” promo with a semi-open ended run time. The promo allowed customers to sign up for tiered data plans and receive double the amount of data without a price hike. The 2GB, 5GB and 10GB plans were now 4GB, 10GB, and 20GB respectively, but still at $30, $50 and $80.
For anyone that wasn’t able to lock into unlimited data, this is something you should try and jump on as a January 15 end date popped up on Verizon’s site this morning.
If you signed up for a Verizon smartphone phone plan in the middle of July, then you likely missed out on the opportunity to lock into unlimited data and were stuck with one of their newly introduced tiers of 2GB, 5GB and 10GB. To help ease your hurt, Big Red has offered up a limited time only promo that will allow you to double your data plan to 4GB, 10GB and 20GB without paying anything extra.
New customers can choose the package they want during purchase – current customers on tiers may have to call into customer service directly to make the change if they aren’t seeing the promo listed through My Verizon. And if they tell you that you can’t adjust your plan, they are wrong. We have seen the training documents and they clearly state that “all customer types” are eligible for this promo.
