If simplifying your life through the Internet and computer is your passion, then MightyText might be your next favorite application. Through a Chrome extension (Safari and IE also supported) and Android application, you can start receiving and sending text messages straight from your desktop computer.

Much like Koush’s DeskSMS, after linking the app to your Google account and individual device (yes, it uses your carrier’s SMS count), you can start chatting with friends right from the monitor in front of you. No more having to pick up that heavy smartphone (/s). After a short test with Kellex, the application works pretty darn smooth and I highly recommend it.

Update: 5 winners have been chosen – emails sent. Thanks everyone!

Koush’s DeskSMS application has been out for almost a month now, growing into one of the more useful apps we have seen in quite some time. The idea – send text messages from anywhere using Gmail, Google Talk, or (newly added) Chrome extension. It has received enough updates, polish, and stability over the last few weeks to take it from being free to a subscription-based service. Since Mr. Dutta is a big fan of DL and loves to give back to the Android community in general, he tossed us five (5) 1-year subscriptions to give away today! Each valued at $4.99 per year.

So how can you win one? By following a few simple steps:

1. Follow both @droid_life and @clockworkmod on Twitter.
2. In the comments, tell us how many texts you average each month.

That’s it! We’ll choose winners in the morning at 9AM Pacific.

To try DeskSMS today for free for two weeks, grab it from the market.

Every six weeks or so we like to poll the readers of Droid Life to see which apps they have discovered and can no longer live without. Quality apps seem to be coming at us in waves these days, making it difficult for everyone to keep up with what’s garbage and what is “must have.” So as usual, we want you to drop as many of your favorite new apps in the comments.

The three we seem to be using the most are DeskSMS (Koush’s new baby) which allows you to send and receive texts through either Gmail or Gtalk. We’ve also come to realize that we are more-than addicted to Fieldrunners HD and haven’t been able to put it down. And of course Pool Party, now that we have some friends who have moved out of 1999 and into the world of tech.

You guys?

Our buddy Koush released his latest app creation yesterday called DesktopSMS. It’s a simple app that allows you to have your phone’s text (SMS) messages forwarded to your Google Talk and Gmail accounts. Once received, you can respond directly through either service to continue the conversation with your texting pal. All you need to do is install the app, login with one of your Google accounts, and then decide how you want to receive your texts. It’s definitely a beta, so he’s looking for early adopters to jump on it and provide feedback.

I recommend going with the GTalk method if you want your responses to be sent at a faster pace.

I should point out that it appears to lack Google Voice integration. Not sure if it would even be possible to include that though, but I have asked Koush for his thoughts on it and will report back.
