Dark Edge V1.0 was finally released last week in an update.zip format bringing joy to thousands of people who were too intimidated by the previous installation method to give it some run.  And just one week later Xeudoxus and REALigion have brought you the full rainbow of color schemes to make your life that much prettier.  How does DE in green, gold, red, blue, orange, purple or pink sound?

Dark Edge 1.0 Released in 7 Color Options for Original DROID is a post from: Droid Life

Dark Edge for the original Droid might still be the greatest theme created for any Android device and with today’s V1.0 release, it looks like it might be a while before anyone dethrones it.  If there was one drawback to previous versions, it would have been the incredibly intense installation process, but with this new release, Xeudoxus and REALigion have put together an update.zip which makes it as easy as any other theme you’ll find.  You now don’t have an excuse to not be using this.  

Instructions (theme only):

*Note 1* – Original DROID only.

*Note 2* – They recommend flashing this over stock FRG22D, but it worked flawlessly for me over Bugless Beast V0.5.

1.  Download DE.FRG22D.zip to your SD card.
2.  Open ROM Manager and select “Install ROM from SD card.”
3.  Locate DE.FRG22D.zip and tap on it.
4.  Check the box to make a backup, skip “wipe data and cache.”
5.  Your phone will reboot and apply Dark Edge.
6.  When it’s finished you can enjoy the new look or move forward to app theming.

Instructions (app theming):

1.  Download DarkEdge-FRG22D-Apps.zip to your SD card.
2.  Downlaod and install Dark Edge tools from the market.
3.  Open Dark Edge tools and click “Start App Transfer.”
4.  When it finishes, exit out.
5.  Extract all of the files from DarkEdge-FRG22D-Apps.zip to your “AndroidThemes” folder.

*Note 3*- If you don’t have this folder, create it.

6.  When finished, download and install Metamorph from the market.
7.  Open Metamorph, “Start Checks” and select “Pick Existing Theme.”
8.  Open the folder which you just extracted DarkEdge-Apps.zip to.
9.  Find the DarkEdge-FRG22D-Apps.xml file and tap on it.
10.  Click “Apply All.”
11.  Metamorph will now theme all of your apps.
12.  When it reboots, enjoy!

*Note 1* – On Mrbobrowitz’s version, I was able to come from Cyanogen 5.0.6.2 without wiping data and cache, but seemed to be missing some of the theme.  On the Team Chaos theme, I came from Bugless Beast V1.0 and was able to apply it without wiping data and cache and everything appeared to be included.

First up is the Mrbobrowitz version:

Instructions…

1.  Download the theme zip file:  SteamDarkEdge.zip (alt link)
2.  Copy the file to the root of your SD card.
3.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
4.  Scroll down and choose the SteamDarkEdge.zip file.
5.  Make a backup if you don’t have a recent one.  Skip “wipe data and cache.”  Hit “OK.”
6.  Phone reboots, applies the magic and BAM!  Done.  Enjoy!

*Note 2* – Not all of the themed icons were ported over, so I had to apply the DE-Icon Pack theme in MetaMorph.  File here.

And second is the Team Chaos version:

Release: DarkEdge Themes from Mrbobrowitz and Team Chaos is a post from: Droid Life

Since everyone feels like they were screwed over by the TAT Home preview, how would you feel about another custom UI for your Motorola Droid?  The DarkEdge UI from Xeudoxus and REALigion went public last night and so far looks incredible.

While the install of it was sort of a struggle, I managed to complete the entire process and I’m thinking it may have been worth the pain.  Well, except for the fact that Hootsuite is made completely useless by all of the black…Anyways, if you are up for an entire theme overhaul, DarkEdge is definitely worth the time and effort.

Update: I’m going to do my best to put together some sort of video tutorial on this, but I’m telling you right now, it’ll be ugly.  It also might be an hour long hah.  Let me see what I can do in the next few days.

A couple of tips for you brave souls though…

• Going from Bugless Beast to this was not successful.  My guess is a kernel issue.  I reverted back to JRummy and a standard voltage kernel and was able to get it to work.
• Be patient.  Reboots seem to take forever, but usually will make it through.
• Be really patient.  This took me a good hour and half because of the amount of steps it takes to completely finish this process.
