Motorola would probably like to forget 2013’s Cyber Monday as quickly as possible. The day started with excitement over the Moto X deal they planned to kick off – $150 off full retail phones – but quickly turned into a disaster once their site buckled under the heavy amounts of traffic that flooded in minutes before the sale was to begin. Customers sat on their MotoMaker site for hours trying to get in orders and as they waited for some sort of word out of Motorola’s camp as to what was happening. We didn’t know much until we were 12 hours in, something their CEO is now apologizing for. (more…)
Well, folks, today didn’t exactly goes as planned if your calendar included a scheduled appearance on Motorola’s MotoMaker site. As you are all well aware, Motorola wanted to kick off a Cyber Monday deal at 9AM ET that would let you walk into a custom made Moto X for $349, which is $150 off the full retail price of their 2013 flagship. It was supposed to be the deal of the day, at least in our books. Unfortunately, we never got to the deal thanks to a massive amount of traffic flooding Motorola’s site before the deal kicked off, crashing it into oblivion. (more…)
The Cyber Monday deals aren’t over just yet, with Newegg selling LG’s new G Pad 8.3 flagship tablet for as little as
$279 $249. This tablet, the first for LG since that terrible 3D thing they did a few years back, is normally priced at $349. I’d call that a heck of a deal, especially for a tablet that is a lot like the LG G2, only in tablet form. (more…)
Amazon might be the king of Cyber Monday deals, but that’s no surprise if you consider the variety of products that can be purchased through their online shop. I will say, that it can often times be somewhat overwhelming to sift through, especially on days like today where all you want to do is find the best possible deals to spend your hard earned money on. So to hopefully help you out some, we have gone ahead and cruised through the phone listings of Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint to find you the best deals available.
In the lists below, you’ll see phones like the brand new white LG G2, Moto X in either black or white, and HTC One in a handful of colors for as little as $0.01 on new contract. You’ll also find the Nexus 5 for Sprint in either black or white for as little as $9.99 on contract.
Update: It’s pretty obvious that Motorola’s site isn’t currently able to handle the amount of traffic that has flooded upon it for this deal. Should the site come back up and the deal be in place, we’ll update this post. Hang with us!
Update 2 (6:49AM): Motorola’s support account on Twitter had this to say – “Lots of traffic; promo not started yet. Wait to order until you see promo in cart. Watch http://twitter.com/motorola for updates!” and “As posted above, it has not started yet. We need to get the site up first. Wait until you see the promo in your cart to order.”
Update 3 (6:58AM): And now the official Motorola account has posted this – “Our website is down due to traffic & we’re working quickly to restore it. Watch here for updates & for when our Cyber Monday deal starts.”
Update 4 (8:17AM): New word in from Motorola – “We’re currently restoring online services. Some may have site-access, but Cyber Monday deal prices won’t begin until all systems are a go.”
Update 6 (11:38AM): Shortly after going live, the Developer Editions both sold out. And then now they have come back. We’re not exactly sure even Motorola knows what’s going on at this point. Feel free to try the links in Update 5, just to make sure. If you were waiting for MotoMaker orders, we think they may still be coming. Try to sit tight through this 6-hour wait.
Update 7 (11:55AM): Yep, the Developer Editions are back again, according to official word from Motorola. And Motomaker is still apparently on the way, if you can believe that. Here are the direct DE links – [GSM Link] [CDMA Link]
Update 8 (6:20PM): Well, Motorola has issued a new statement with a potential new schedule. If they are not up and running by 6:30PM Pacific, they are moving the deal to Wednesday, December 4, with a second sale happening on Monday, December 9.
Update 9 (11:00PM): Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has apologized for today’s debacle. They will indeed open up two more sale days – December 4 (this Wednesday) and December 9 (next Monday). Details here.
Motorola’s discount on the full retail price of the Moto X – what may be the best Cyber Monday deal of them all – is now live (at least it’s supposed to be, but their site is struggling at the moment). Announced last week, we were told to expect to see a $150 discount from off-contract pricing on Moto X models through MotoMaker and Developer Editions. For those keeping track of current Moto X pricing, that puts custom made MotoMaker models with 16GB at just $349 without a contract. Should you go 32GB of storage, you’ll be paying $399. (more…)
While you attempt to wait patiently for Motorola to get their sh*t together for today’s Moto X Cyber Monday deal, think about adding to your tech collection with this eBay deal on the 2013 Nexus 7 in either 16GB or 32GB. As long as supplies last, you can grab the 16GB model for $169 or the 32GB model for $229. That would be a $60 or $40 discount, respectively. Oh, you can get free shipping as well with an estimated arrival time of “on or before December 6” for the 16GB version.
The 16GB Nexus 7 units are manufacturer refurbished; 32GB units are brand new.
Weren’t interested in (or able to grab) the Moto X through early Cyber Monday madness? How about Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HDX at a similarly ridiculously low price of $179 with 16GB of storage? This is Amazon’s new high-end Kindle Fire, one that houses a high-resolution 7-inch display (1920×1200), 2.2GHz quad-core processor, new version of Fire OS, lengthy 11 hour battery life, and Mayday Button for live, video support whenever you need it at no additional cost. Its typical price is $229, so you are looking at a $50 discount for the day.
If the ultra-high end HDX isn’t exactly what you were looking for, then consider their other Kindle Fire HD, which can be had today-only for $119 with 16GB of storage. Again, that’s a $50 discount from its normal $169 price point. With the regular Fire HD, you are looking at a 7-inch display (1280×800), dual-core processor, 10 hour battery life, and access to Amazon’s services like Prime.
The LG G2 in white has finally landed on Verizon’s virtual online store shelves. The device is also here at an introductory/Cyber Monday price of FREE on new 2-year contract. We were expecting this variant of LG’s new flagship to arrive much sooner, but Big Red has gone with a white theme for this mega-holiday shopping weekend, and a white G2 certainly fits right in.
