I almost can’t even type this post with a straight face. And yes, this is actually happening. The Samsung Continuum is set to receive Android 2.2 some time in the very near future. As in, Froyo. No, not Gingerbread. Froyo.

Does anyone remember when Samsung actually held a special press conference to introduce this phone back in 2010? The kind of event that is usually reserved for big devices like the RAZR or Galaxy SII. The invites had a stock market ticker on them in reference to its “ticker” second screen. It was going to change the world of notifications as we knew it. Dual-screens, go!

And then the phone came out with the exact same specs as the Fascinate and completely disappeared from anyone’s radar. We won’t go as far as calling this the flop of the last couple of years, but damn is it up there. So to see it receive Froyo after almost a year and a half, we can’t help but giggle and point fingers.

More info.

Cheers Trailblazer101!

Fresh off the insider wire, we have the list of Verizon’s Black Friday specials and we’ve trimmed them down to only include smartphones, although at request, I’m sure we could toss back in a few feature phones. Silly.

So we’ve got a really good deal for the Continuum going on tomorrow and Friday at $99 (after rebate), the LG Vortex for free (after rebate) and the Incredible for $149 plus a BOGA offer all weekend. That’s “buy one phone, get ANY other phone of equal or lesser value” for those new to the shopping lingo. Think about the possibilities there, people.

Rest of the deals after the break.

Black Friday and Black Friday Weekend only! See the special pricing and promos for VZW devices.

And then information on Droid and Android pricing throughout the weekend:

So much for November 11th being the biggest Android day in recent memory? It appears to have been replaced with the 18th according to reports out of Verizon’s camp this morning and now Best Buy. The Droid Pro, Samsung Continuum and LG Vortex will all hit BB stores shelves on the 18th with possible pre-orders the week before.

Does this mean the Continuum won’t hit Verizon stores on the 11th? Like we said earlier, release dates for phones change almost hourly, so don’t be surprised if you see these adjust another time. Just expect a whole batch of Android devices on every level to launch over the next 3 weeks. It’s going to be one wild ride.

Oh, we should also point out that the Droid 2 Global is listed as “unknown” but we’re pretty sure it’s still on track for November 11th. Check out this comparison chart for the D2 Global to be in the know.

You are looking at the next Samsung Galaxy S device called the Continuum (SCH-i400) which appears to be on its way to Verizon to either replace the Fascinate (review) or least satisfy the…2 screen needing…Android crowd. Wait that exists? Apparently Samsung thinks so!

According to sources at Engadget, this new device will have dual screens, with the bottom one acting as a ticker of sorts. This ticker will show you notifications, weather, RSS updates, etc. and might even automatically turn on just by picking it up. The benefit here is obviously its battery saving ability which would allow you to leave your big OLED screen off to check simple updates to your phone.

Here are my concerns. The softkeys, which on the Fascinate were one of its major downfalls, are now in between 2 touch screens. Talk about frustrations in the making? Good luck finding those in a dark room on the fly. And is it just me or does this device look like it’s about twice as long as the Droid X? Time to bring back the JNCOs? I’m not going to lie, this device looks ridiculously awkward, but maybe that’s just me!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention it’s filled with Bing. And puzzle pieces.

More shots after the break.
