The newest commercial for Samsung’s Galaxy S4 dropped over the weekend, a clip that highlights Smart Pause for video watching and the phone’s ability to answer calls while waving a hand. It’s clever, that’s for sure. You have features being tossed around, a setting that is familiar to all sorts of segments of the population, awkwardness, and comedy. Samsung has done a pretty brilliant job when it comes to promoting their products over the last couple of years, with 2013 and the GS4 campaign being no different.

Samsung will reportedly eclipse the 10 million sales mark for the Galaxy S4 in less than a month’s time, a number that is pretty remarkable even with what must be an almost unlimited marketing budget.

It is quite helpful if browsing random news stories interests you or you need to be involved one hundred percent of time in what your friends are up to. BlinkFeed has its place and time, for sure.

If you watched even an ounce of television this weekend, then you likely saw at least one of Samsung’s new commercials for the Galaxy S4. We already showed you the lengthy “Pool Party” ad, but in case you missed “Grad Photo” and “Easy Mode,” we’ve included those now as well.

In “Grad Photo,” Samsung highlights their Eraser camera mode that is great for taking out unwanted (photobombs) objects in photos. In “Easy Mode,” as the name suggests, shows off Easy Mode, which is Samsung’s dumbing down of the home screen setup to be less stressful and potentially for the older crowd.

Last night during TNT’s NBA broadcasts, Samsung’s new “Pool Party” ad for the Galaxy S4 popped up at least a couple of times. The ad is long, like a minute and a half long. If there was any doubt that their marketing budget is practically unlimited when it comes to their flagship phones, this should change that permanently. You almost have to feel a little bad for their competitors, because there is no way they can keep up with commercials played during special events at peak hours that are pushing almost two minutes in length.

In this spot, the setting is at a graduation pool party. Throughout the ad, the graduate shows off all of the Galaxy S4′s new features (Air Gesture, Air View, TV remote app, S Beam, and more) to his parents who are constantly impressed by the things it can do. Of course, all of the young, hip, and attractive attendees at the party all have the Galaxy S4 already, while the older crowd including grandparents, carry iPhones that aren’t quite as “smart” as their GS4s. You’ll see new camera features highlighted, jokes about missing NFC technology in Apple’s products, and even the idea that the Galaxy S4 can capture smells with its camera (which it can’t). Silly, but you’ll get the point.

Don’t forget to read our Galaxy S4 review too.

For the most part, Microsoft’s campaigns against Google, Android, and iOS that promote Windows Phone or their other products are all pretty lame. Think “Smoked by Windows Phone” or even those “Scroogled” spots. Not really the most clever of marketing ideas, to say the least. This new Lumia/Windows Phone 8 spot, on the other hand, is actually funny and worth a quick look.

In the spot, you’ll see iPhone users taking shots at Galaxy owners with their “enormous” phones and S Beam feature followed by comments made in return to grandmothers about being too young to own an iPhone. There are Apple logo tattoos, app availability trash talking, and even the thought that Samsung and Apple fanboys love the constant fighting. Silly.

“Weeeee!”

Cheers Scott!

The first set of Galaxy S4 commercials arrived this morning from Samsung, focusing on many of the features we saw on stage during their event at Radio City Music Hall back in early March. As one would expect after topping all phone companies for advertising in 2012, Samsung appears to be poised to do it all over again with their latest flagship.

In the top spot, Sammy sells “Sound Shot,” the camera feature that allows you to record a bit of sound with your picture, so that as you share it with friends or family, they can hear your experience. Yes, it’s kind of cheesy, but in this commercial, you can see the use case.

The second spot features “Group Play” and may be the worst ad of them all. Group Play allows multiple Galaxy S4 owners to create a massive music session by linking phones and playing the same song simultaneously. I can’t imagine ever wanting to do this, but according to Samsung, sports teams would prove me otherwise.

The last shows off “S Translator.” With S Translator, you can travel the world and not have to worry about learning other languages. Similar to Google Translate, all you need to do is select the proper language for the country you are in, speak your native tongue, and listen as it spits out translations for natives to react to. It will also translate back as they respond to the phone being shoved in their face.

Are you ready for Samsung’s wave of commercials?

After HTC announced the new HTC One and its unique take on a home screen, also known as BlinkFeed, it’s safe to say that Android purists didn’t exactly warm up to the idea of having a non-removable panel of social and news feeds. But HTC was selling this to the average, everyday user, and rightfully so. To many, having a single home screen feed that can be filled up with your social networks, latest news from top sites, and calendar appointments, is incredibly convenient.

Unless it turns out to be anything like this new commercial that HTC released last night. In the spot, a girl is checking out her phone while riding on the subway. As she browses through BlinkFeed, her friends start appearing in the car along with her as if it’s some scene out of The Shining. There are sports broadcasters, <del>football</del> soccer players, and others all robotic-ly spouting out the word “like.” Shivers, down my spine. And that potato looks nothing like Elvis.

We haven’t posted a DROID commercial in a while, but a new clip for the RAZR MAXX HD surfaced this morning looking more like the original DROID campaign than anything we have seen in some time, and thought we’d share. Plus, anything is better than the desert bedroom explosion spot, right? Not sure this fully redeems the DROID brand after that ridiculousness, but it can’t hurt.

In this spot, instead of selling the new powerful Google Voice Search, Verizon has decided to brand it with their own term called, “DROID recognition.” Yes, that’s a silly word play on the phrase “voice recognition.” Come on, we should be able to do better than this.

The spot is decent. It’s two minutes long, features a cameo by LeBron James, includes a couple of chuckle-worthy moments, and is directed by Jon Favreau.

Remember the pink DROID RAZR M that we told you about yesterday? It’s now available! If you can withstand the 4-block long lines that are likely forming for this limited edition Valentine’s Day-inspired device, then you’ll be pleased to learn that it’ll only cost $50 on contract once you get to the front. Remember that it’s limited, which usually means collector’s item. Must have! Can’t live without! OK, I’ll stop now.

You can see the pink wonder in action below in Big Red’s newest commercial. Of course a woman is holding the phone. Sexist.

To show off the business-readiness (SAFE) of the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, Samsung has released a new TV spot that features a fictional mobile gaming company whose employees are stuck in a world of Blackberries as business phones. Well, Blackberries as business phones and iPhones as their “home” phones. As one would expect, Samsung highlights the powerful business sharing tools, levels of encryption, and multi-tasking abilities of their current lineup, while also taking jabs at the guy in the sportcoat who thinks a Blackberry means “business.”

Oh, the game they are creating is called “Unicorn Apocalypse.” Who doesn’t love unicorns?
