Koushik Dutta, known as the mind behind ROM Manager and other apps such as Carbon Backup and DeskSMS, is at it yet again. Late last night, Koush posted details and a video to his Google+, showing off his newest creation, ClockworkMod Superuser.

The app which will forever be free and open source, is Koush’s definition of how a superuser app should be – secure, open, and work properly (with a pinch of prettiness). It features multiuser support, PIN protection, customizable notifications and a whole lot more.

Koush Releases Open Source ClockworkMod Superuser Beta App is a post from: Droid Life

A new feature was teased for ClockworkMod Recovery 6 last night, one that will allow users to quickly create update.zip or image .zip files of ROMs to be shared with friends or the community. If you are running a new ROM and have made your own tweaks to /system or the boot/kernel, you can quickly turn it into a shareable ROM. And don’t worry, this doesn’t touch your /data or /cache, so no personal information will be included.

This new CWM isn’t out yet, but should be in the next couple of days.

New ClockworkMod Recovery Can Create Flashable Update.zip Files of ROMs is a post from: Droid Life

Last week, Koush talked about a release of ClockworkMod Recovery 6 that would include a handful of new features. Last night, we released the update for the Galaxy Nexus, bringing with it faster backups, a new backup format, fixed restoring of backups greater than 2GB, and a fancy new background. If you want to update to this right away, you can do so through ROM Manager.

Speaking of ROM Manager, he also announced that everyone’s favorite ROM flasher is in need of a makeover. A UI rewrite will arrive “shortly” and will include a paid ROM section, an option to upload your ROM for anyone to use, and the ability to connect your ROM to Recovery Builder. It’s hard to believe that this fantastic app has been around for 2 years already. Bring on the makeover!

ClockworkMod Recovery 6 Released for Galaxy Nexus, ROM Manager Overhaul is on the Way Too is a post from: Droid Life

ClockworkMod Recovery is about to get a hefty update to version 6 that will make your ROM flashing experience more stable and reliable. According to a post by Mr. Dutta over at Google+, things like recovery checking to make sure you have root access before flashing will be added. CWM will also disable the stock recovery flasher and give you the option to confirm installation on a stock ROM that gets an update. Things you were asking for, right?

• Recovery will confirm that your ROM still has root access. This is useful on stock ROMs.
• Recovery disables the stock recovery flasher. This is also useful on stock ROMs.
• If you’re on a stock ROM and get an update, it used to not allow you to install it at all. Now, it will give you the option to confirm the installation.

He didn’t specify a release time frame, but if he’s talking about these changes on G+ openly, so I’d assume he will have this update out in the near future.

Within an hour or so after Asus released their bootloader unlocking tool for the Transformer Prime, devs had already released a custom ClockworkMod Recovery for it. It’s available now and will require a set of adb or fastboot commands in order to get it up and running. A flashable .zip version will be available shortly for those not comfortable doing it the manual way. Time for ROMs! Instructions at the source links.

ClockworkMod Recovery Released for the Transformer Prime is a post from: Droid Life

We wrote up this bit of news on Sunday when Koush first released it, but our inbox has made it clear that many of you unplug from the internet on weekends (how dare you!). So for those with lives, you should know that a beta version of Clockwork Touch Recovery is available for the Galaxy Nexus and a handful of other devices.

If you want to get it for free, you can browse through the “Download Touch Recovery” column at the ClockworkMod site and then flash the .img through fastboot (Instructions). If fastboot is not your friend, you can pay $1.99 through ROM Manager to unlock the touch goodness.

*Note – Through the first couple of releases, some ROMs were struggling to flash properly. Koush appears to be working through many of those issues, so if you run into any, report the errors if you please, and be patient.

The touch-based Clockwork Recovery that was teased late last week is now available in beta form if you would like to test it. I flashed it without any problems, cruised through menus and am now performing my first backup with it. So far, everything seems to work. Scrolling through lists of files can be a little difficult to control at this time, but again, it’s a beta so expect all of the polish to come as you all take the time to test and provide feedback. Otherwise Galaxy Nexus owners, get to it.

Instructions:

*We went with basic commands here. If some of this is foreign to you, I suggest you check out all of our complete instructions in the Galaxy Nexus Guide.

1.  Download the file from above and place it in your SDK Tools or Platform-Tools folder.

*Wherever your adb.exe and fastboot.exe files are located, that’s where you copy the new recovery too.

2.  Open a command prompt from within that folder (hold SHIFT and right click – choose “open command”)
3.  Type the following commands:

adb reboot bootlooader
fastboot flash recovery touch-tuna.img

4.  When that finishes pick up your phone and choose “Recovery mode” using the volume keys.
5.  Your phone should boot into the new recovery.
6.  Enjoy touching!

No, this isn’t the touch-based Clockwork Recovery that was created for the Galaxy Nexus at the beginning of the month. This is a fully touch-enabled version that no longer uses arrows or physical buttons to get the job done. Our man Koush released a teaser on G+ to get some feedback and to show the progress that he has made. You can’t test it yet and he has promised a better UI, so try to be patient.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  Receiving so much love.  Feels good, right?  The newest feature we are going to boast about is a touch enabled version of ClockworkMod Recovery which is available for the Galaxy Nexus.  It is still in Alpha (Beta now), but is completely usable and available for download.

Download:  cwm_touch_alpha2_toro.img cwm_touch_beta1_toro.img

Installation instructions:

1. Download .img file.
2. Place .img file in tools folder of your Android SDK.
3. Open up a command prompt in your tools folder.
4. Write out the following commands then hit enter.

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery cwm_touch_beta1_toro.img

You should now have the newest touch-enabled recovery on your device.  If you want to go back to regular ClockworkMod, you can easily do so by flashing it through ROM Manager.  Have fun!

Download Touch-Based ClockworkMod Recovery For Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Updated) is a post from: Droid Life

While I’m not interested in getting into the dev drama that appears to have surrounded this situation, I did want to point out that there has been a bootstrap app for the DROID RAZR since November, but for whatever reason, slipped through the cracks and almost no one saw it (maybe because most of you were renting it?). XDA member nitroglycerine33 created the fully working app that will flash ClockworkMod Recovery onto your device. Backups and restores appear to be fully working, so if rooting and then tweaking and potentially flashing ROMs is in your RAZR future, you will want to jump on this.

I should point out though, that to my knowledge, there is not any form of system file that will save you should your run into soft-bricking types of issues. So if you proceed, understand the risks involved here.

DROID RAZR Receives ClockworkMod Recovery Via Bootstrap is a post from: Droid Life

Our buddy Koush released his latest app creation yesterday called DesktopSMS.  It’s a simple app that allows you to have your phone’s text (SMS) messages forwarded to your Google Talk and Gmail accounts.  Once received, you can respond directly through either service to continue the conversation with your texting pal.  All you need to do is install the app, login with one of your Google accounts, and then decide how you want to receive your texts.  It’s definitely a beta, so he’s looking for early adopters to jump on it and provide feedback.

I recommend going with the GTalk method if you want your responses to be sent at a faster pace.

I should point out that it appears to lack Google Voice integration.  Not sure if it would even be possible to include that though, but I have asked Koush for his thoughts on it and will report back.

Koush Launches DeskSMS, Send Text Messages Using Gmail and Google Talk is a post from: Droid Life

Before we get into this, we need to make it clear that this DROIDX2 bootstrap app was found in a random Chinese forum, so we definitely aren’t recommending that you jump all over this.  With that said, we’ve been following the thread for this topic over at XDA throughout the last day to see if anyone has actually had the guts to use it, and apparently they have – and it works.

The file was originally built for the Atrix 4G, but can work on the DX2 with no problems.  Users are claiming to have backed up and restored their stock ROMs, plus some have even flashed a ROM that was discovered along with the bootstrap app.  We have video from a friend below, but again, let’s all be careful with this one.
