It’s painful trying to pull myself from the TV this morning, as I’ve been paying Black Ops 2 non-stop and loving every second of it. Today, the official Call of Duty Elite app for Android received an update, bringing support for the newest title. With the Elite app, you can customize your classes, look over past games, and also see what your clan is up to.

Since Elite was made free, if you play CoD, but don’t have Elite installed, then you’re doing it wrong. Go grab it now.

Well, today just took a turn for the kick ass and righteous. Glu Mobile, publisher of many other popular game titles on Android have released Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies to Google Play. The game features the maps and weapons that made it such a huge success among console gamers such as Kino Der Toten and Ascension.

Before you make a mess of yourself though, know that the game has been released for support of only Sony Xperia devices for the next 30 days. Once that period of time is over, everyone else can also enjoy the zombie slaying for a hefty $7.

We here at DL are big fans of our Call of Duty. The launch of the Elite application for Android a few months ago was just disappointing to say the least but to Activision’s credit they worked to fix most of the problems quickly. News today has it that Activision is now working on a tablet optimized version of the application for us Android users. With the amount of information that Elite gathers in each game a tablet application could be pretty crazy. Let’s just hope that it works well when it launches this time.

The biggest video game franchise in the world, Call of Duty was looking to expand itself to the web and mobile with the release of its supplemental service Call of Duty: Elite. They said that there would be a mobile side of the service that keeps track of your kills and overall stats in the game and it has finally hit the Android Market, but is not doing too well out of the gate. Screenshots of the application’s flaws can only describe what it needs to fix.

Users are reporting many log-in problems and saying that emails are invalid when they should work. The biggest problem though, is that once you get into the actual app, as I did on my Galaxy Nexus, the application does not scale to fit the screen. Maybe this is an Ice Cream Sandwich problem more than the phone but nevertheless, after the botched launch of Elite itself this is not welcome news. Other than the aforementioned problems, the app works pretty well. It allows you to track your stats and challenges and even allows you to change your custom layouts on the fly and send them to the game. If only it will get updated, it will be a fantastic start to a good application.

Video games like this could potentially have a huge presence in the mobile area but launches like this are not helping their cause. It remains to be seen how Activision will update the app but we hope that it’s sooner than later.

Market Link

Cheers William!

This past week there was a little shindig going down in Los Angeles. Call of Duty decided to throw a party for its fans and what a party it was – there were paintball battles, real life CoD maps laid out for people to see and somewhere in the vicinity of 2,000 Xboxs on hand. But one interesting piece that came from the event was that there would be an Android, and iOS, application coming out soon with the release of Modern Warfare 3.

Now, this isn’t going to be a game by any means. This will be an application that ties directly into CoD’s new stat-tracking and social networking experiment called Call of Duty: Elite. This application will definitely allow you to look at your loadouts in-game through your phone and let you make changes while you’re on the go. Those changes will be waiting for you when you get back to the game later on in the day. Cool, huh? Since I got to beta test CoD: Elite (my full story here) I can see that this application will most likely allow you to track your stats for bragging rights when you’re out with your buddies. If they decide to fully implement all that Elite offers it’ll even allow you to look up maps from the game which provide spawn points and other intel and will give you videos that you can watch that are made by CoD players and even some videos breaking down how to use certain guns. Unfortunately there hasn’t been a definite release date for this application yet, but look for it around the time MW:3 drops, November 8.

And simply because it looks so ridiculously good, here is the new trailer for MW:3:

Click here to view the embedded video.

Should be an interesting little application if it lives up to what CoD: Elite was about. Any gamers out there excited at this news?
