NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Spotted in Global Certification, Could This be the “Mocha” Tablet?

Back in May, details dropped of an NVIDIA tablet that was being worked on behind closed doors under the codename “Mocha.” Well, a few days ago, an NVIDIA tablet made its way through the Global Certification Forum, but under the SHIELD brand name.

There was a sparse amount of information listed for this device other than the company name. GSM bands listed point to it being functional on AT&T and T-Mobile, but no CDMA. There were LTE bands listed in this certification, but without more details, we can’t be sure if those are meant to be used in the US or elsewhere.  (more…)

NVIDIA SHIELD 2 (P2570) Hits FCC, Curved Backside Shown Off

Thanks to a recent FCC filing, we can now be on the lookout for an announcement regarding a SHIELD 2 device from NVIDIA. A controller-shaped console hit the Commission with model number P2570, and with the original SHIELD unit sporting model number P2450, there are not many other devices this could be.

Looking at the lonely diagram taken from the official filing, we can see that SHIELD 2 will likely be a bit slimmer than the original SHIELD, as that device was a tad on the bulky side. Besides the backside, no other images can be found within the report.  (more…)

NVIDIA CEO Hints at SHIELD 2, Should be Powered by Project Logan

In a recent interview with Engadget, NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was asked if the public could expect a new rendition of SHIELD sometime in 2014. Jen-Hsun replied that we should all expect a new SHIELD anytime a new Tegra chip is released, which should actually be fairly soon. NVIDIA already announced that the next Tegra chip, codenamed Project Logan, will be the first Tegra chip based on the same “architectural sophistication” that you see in a PC platform today.  (more…)
