More news regarding the One from OnePlus arrived today, this time focused on the back-facing 13MP shooter featured on the device. The photos, from what was posted, do look to be quite good. Luckily, the person who took the photos wasn’t an amateur, and actually had to win a contest in order to be able to test the device’s shooter. (more…)

Verizon’s variant of the HTC One (M8) is receiving its first update today as build 1.55.605.2. The update appears to be pretty minor, but does improve Bluetooth connectivity (yay!), adds a copy/paste feature to the Gallery, introduces mute/edit buttons in Highlights, and improved sync behavior when closing a Dot View Cover.
The update also removes the roaming indicator that was being displayed on some M8s out of the box and resolved a connection error issue.
That’s pretty much it. We were hoping it brought along Extreme Power Saving mode, but there is no mention of it in the changelog below.
To check for the update, head into Settings>Software update>Check new. (more…)
According to a report out of Bloomberg, HTC has scooped Samsung’s former Head of Marketing, Paul Goldman, who has been hired on through a three month contract. Goldman has already been attending meetings for the company. HTC’s chairman Cher Wang states, “We just have to communicate well with our customers. I believe if we can communicate better, we will do better.”
Goldman worked for Samsung from 2008 through 2012, and played a key role when the company launched its now insanely-popular Galaxy brand around the globe. HTC sent a note out to Bloomberg, stating the company will continue to invest in talent and recruitment as “part of our broader human resources strategy.” (more…)
After seeing the Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) update for Verizon’s version of the LG G2 become available through VZW’s Software Upgrade Assistant, we figured the OTA (over-the-air) update would rollout at any minute. Sure enough, Verizon has approved it and posted the changelog for build VS98024A, which means it really should be here with a couple of days, if not today for all to download. (more…)

In an interview with Vodafone, HTC’s camera guru Symon Whitehorn, discussed the present and future of his company’s plans for optics, which includes both dominating the selfie market and helping you ditch that big bulky dedicated shooter. Despite the fact that it’s 2014 and we already are seeing some of this year’s flagships hit the market, you may still be interested in one of Motorola’s 2013 flagships, the DROID MAXX. Though its chief appeal for many is its gigantic battery, there are many other things going for it including Active Display and Touchless Control. Verizon today has announced the addition of two brand new colors, High Gloss Red and Black with Chrome Accents, and this may perhaps push you over the edge to purchase this phone. (more…)
As you guys know, I’m kind of into the whole fitness band thing. I’ve talked about my dedication to Nike’s platform, including the Fuelband (which I recently retired). I’ve picked up random Kickstarter items like the Misfit Shine, all because I’m constantly looking for something to help track my fitness goals, which mostly includes speed and distance training with some strength exercises worked in.
When Samsung unveiled the Gear Fit during their Galaxy S5 launch event, I was actually somewhat excited – a fitness band, with a beautiful little AMOLED display, that works on Android, isn’t terrible looking, and doesn’t have single-day battery life. What’s not to like? I picked one up last week when it arrived in stores and have been using it daily ever since. I’ve logged 8 mile runs, shorter sprint workouts, worn it as a smartwatch, and even tried once to get it to track my sleep. In other words, I’ve tried to make this my daily fitness tracker and more, just like Samsung claims it can be.
With that said, I’ve got a ton of thoughts to share. Let’s talk about the Samsung Gear Fit. (more…)
