Here we are again at the end of another great week at Droid-Life. We’ve been pumping work around here showing you how to get all rooted Froyo goodness (Rooting instructions HERE and HERE). Follow those instructions and join us in our journey to trying out the coolest and slickest ROM’s available for our Original Bad-Boy (aka Droid-1, aka OG Droid, the Godfather, etc etc).

So let me run this down. Incognito has been ported to the ShadowROM and looooks fantastic! BGill55 is a master of this stuff. We’re talking all widgets, and even icons for ADW. Just look at these pics. If you like black and red (God knows I do) then you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself! Let’s do this!

*For original Motorola Droid only.

1. Gotta be running the ShadowROM. Pick it up in ROM Manager.

2. Download the Red-Incognito theme here —-> Incognito-Red

3. Place the zip on the root of your SD Card and flash using Clockwork Recovery.

4. Download these files. Inside are themed APK’s to match this theme! Just download them then UNZIP the folder and install them as normal APK’s. ESPN, Audio Widget, Pandora and Twitter, and ADW (ADW is VERY important).

5. Enjoy!

System Info Widget: ($0.99) –  Needing to know all of your most important system info at the touch of a finger?  System Info Widget provides it all to you in the form of a 4×1 or 1×4 widget which includes battery percentage, memory available, SD card storage space and more.  The various skins are a nice touch too.

Tiki Towers: ($1.99) – One of the more addicting games you’ll find.  The idea is for you to become the greatest bridge builder in the jungle to allow for monkeys to scale across them and snag bananas.  Who doesn’t love bananas and bridges?  Full of over 40 levels of monkey business, you’ll definitely enjoy.

picplz: (free) – Social app addict?  Can’t get enough Foursquare?  Download picplz which allows you to take pictures of your locations and then post them to Foursquare, Facebook, etc.  It takes your stalker/”look at me!” mentality to the next level.

Android2Cloud: (free) – Think of Chrome-to-Phone and reverse it. Yep, Android2Cloud lets you send links from your phone back to your browser and is a must have.  So simple, yet so amazing.

triMirror Fashion: (free) – For the ladies of Droid Life, here is your new shopping buddy.  Share photos of clothing and fashion ideas with your friends while you shop.  Get fashion advice and styling tips plus hottest deals on clothes, shoes, and accessories.  Girlfriend!

WidgetLocker: ($1.99) – Filled up those 7 homescreens already?  Time to fill up your lock screen then! WidgetLocker allows you add additional widgets, app shortcuts, and other locking mechanisms to your lock screen.  This might be one of the greatest apps ever invented, especially to those that can’t stand unlocking their phone every 30 seconds.

Wouldn’t it be handy to have an app that allows your phone to send notifications of incoming calls, texts, voicemails or even low battery warnings to your desktop?  Then check out a new player in the smartphone-to-computer game called Android (Remote) Notifier.

Remote Notifier allows your device, when connected over wi-fi or Bluetooth, to send a variety of notifications to your desktop which as your brain might have just realized, is super handy especially if you were to be, let’s say, sitting in a conference room with your phone on silent?  Think about it.  Win.

You will need both in order for this to work.  Simply install them, connect to a wi-fi network and send over a test notifcation.  It really is as simple as that.

*I should note that it does not appear to be working with Google Voice texts, but does work with GV phone calls.

Dr. Root, How can i use multiple static wallpapers?

Well. before last week I would have told you that it’s not possible. I’ll explain why. The Android operating system handles wallpapers by screen size and as you scroll or swipe from one screen to another it shows only a portion of the wallpaper. There is a technical explanation that involves a lot of math and layout jargon which I will not go into.  Your solution?  

MultiPicture Live Wallpaper. Whats that you say, lwp? Yes I know what your thinking, I don’t want to use a live wallpaper. Trust me you do. MultiPicture live wallpaper allows you to select up to 7 different images to use on your screens. It also has transition effects from one screen to another, as well as double tap to change picture and a few more goodies for you to play with.

Dr. Root  I need more icons on my screen but have no more room. What do I do?

Well personally, I prefer a more minimalistic screen, but since I know you all don’t  share my views, enter…MULTICON. This app acts as a widget and if used with LauncherPro Plus’ resizing and you can have up to 144 icons per screen.

Dr. Root, I can’t boot into recovery from Rom Manager on my Droid X. What do I do?

This is an easy one folks. Simply uninstall Rom Manager and re-run Koush’s Bootstrap app. Reinstall Rom Manager and re-flash clockworkmod recovery. This should fix the issue.

TweetDeck is quickly becoming the best Twitter app available on Android.  It pains me to say that after being a HootSuite fan for so long, but it’s hard to argue against it at this point.  In just a few short weeks, we’re 5 or 6 versions in with the latest update bringing 3 widgets to the table.  How many other Twitter apps have been out for months now and still can’t figure out how to put together a clean widget?  TweetDeck created 3 in about 3 weeks time.

Current Android isn’t meant for tablets?  But, but, there are so many out there running 2.1 and 2.2!  Google realizes this, and they are not supporting almost all of these devices.  In fact, any Android tablet running a current build has a pretty good chance of never being supported according to Hugo Barra, director of products for mobile at Google…

“…the way Android Market works is it’s not going to be available on devices that don’t allow applications to run correctly. Which devices do, and which don’t will be unit specific, but Froyo is not optimised for use on tablets.”

“If you want Android market on that platform, the apps just wouldn’t run, [Froyo] is just not designed for that form factor. We want to make sure that we’re going to create a application distribution mechanism for the Android market, to ensure our users have right experience.”

And yes, Google is well aware that the Samsung Galaxy Tab (pictured above) is only running Android 2.2, but obviously made the cut or is simply considered a “phone” rather than a tablet.

So should we expect Gingerbread or Honeycomb to be something built specifically for tablets?  I’d sure put some money on it especially after seeing quotes from Samsung’s head of mobile communications last week at their tablet launch.  If his word means anything, Honeycomb is the ticket.

We were pretty sold on the white Droid Incredible looking about as sexy as a phone could possibly look, and then we saw this red version.  Talk about “Ferrari Red” or whatever HTC was preaching when this thing launched; they weren’t kidding.

Remember you can pick up these red and white official HTC backs by handing the SKUs we’ve listed below to a Verizon rep.  Reports are coming in that they will set you back $24.99 which seems a little steep, but remember, EVO owners had to buy an entire new phone to get white.

Another day, another leak from the special edition R2-D2 Droid 2.  Can we drag out the releases of these any longer?  Should we expect widgets tomorrow? I will say that the Boba Fett paper up above is pretty much 100% amazing though.  There are 14 in all, I’ve highlighted a few in the gallery after the jump.

Remember the Motorola tablet (MZ600) rumored to be called “Stringray”?  Well, it just appeared in Verizon inventory showing demo, dummy and official versions.  So does this mean it will still be launching this year?  Signs would point to “yes” although we’ve heard rumors of a delay until early 2011.  There is also no mention of the word “DROID” which is disappointing, but we have to assume it will end up as a part of our family right?
