Video: Galaxy Nexus Volume Controls Gone Wild, Only on 2G Though

Recently purchased the UK version of the Galaxy Nexus? Be sure to stay out of 2G signal areas or you may run into the whacky volume control issue you are seeing in the video above. That’s right, the HSPA version of the Galaxy Nexus in the UK is toying with its owners when they leave an area with a strong data connection.

This issue likely does not exist on the U.S. LTE version, but we won’t really know for a couple of weeks since we are looking at December 8 as a potential release date. I wouldn’t get all worked up about this though. With the device still getting its final software tweaks, you can bet that it will be fixed before we ever see it.

No Gorilla Glass on the Galaxy Nexus, No Worries – Survives Key Scratch Test with Flying Colors

Your disappointment in the lack of Gorilla Glass on the Galaxy Nexus was pretty evident back at this post. Even with Samsung’s acknowledgement that they decided to use a different fortified glass with a less prominent name, there were still some skeptics. Maybe the video above will help ease your mind. The UK G-Nex is given a good key rubbing and comes out – unscathed. Not that we were worried that it wouldn’t.

Even as a Nexus Device, Verizon Still Manages to Sneak in Two Bloatware Apps on the Galaxy Nexus

by: | posted 11.17.11 | News, Videos

They couldn’t let us have just one phone, could they? As many of you noted from the massive video release from this morning, the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will indeed have two bloatware apps. Both My Verizon Mobile and Backup Assistant will come preloaded. It is a minimal amount, and you can argue that these two apps are useful to many unlike the other VCAST software that has plagued every other VZW phone, but we were still hoping for a purely clean slate.

With that said, this will give us a great opportunity to utilize the new built-in bloatware removal tool that the Android team put in Android 4.0. And of course, the majority of us will be fastboot oem unlock-ing the minute we get it home, followed by a custom recovery and root, and will then rid the device of these permanently ourselves.

Verizon-Branded Galaxy Nexus Stars In Official Google Videos, Your Guide to the Device

by: | posted 11.17.11 | News, Videos

With the Galaxy Nexus available in the U.K., Google has released numerous “getting started” videos on the official Google Nexus YouTube channel. The videos are your normal run-of-the-mill instructional how to’s – except for one thing, a Verizon-branded Galaxy Nexus. We have seen the device go through the FCC and we have heard countless stories regarding possible delays, nonetheless it is nice to see some more Verizon confirmation to ease those pesky stomach nerves.

Interestingly enough, you can clearly see a My Verizon Mobile app and VZ Backup Assistant installed on the device. These may not be preinstalled but a little part of me has a feeling that they may be, which takes away from the Pure Google Experience and the Nexus name. Unfortunately, a release date is still being kept under wraps.

Newest DROID RAZR Commercial Returns to the Ways of Old With an In-Your-Face Message

We were concerned that Verizon may go through another marketing campaign for one of their DROID devices without actually showing anyone what it was capable of. The teaser for the DROID RAZR was more than entertaining to watch, but we were hoping that the rest of the spots for it would go deep in design and features. Thankfully, they have. In the newest clip, the device couldn’t be more in your face with its slender figure and eye-popping build. Nice, work VZW marketing team, this is exactly what we were looking for.

UK Galaxy Nexus Receives First Official “Unbagging” Video

You can be certain once the Galaxy Nexus hits US shores and the tech world receives their G-Nex boxes, there will be many unboxing videos for everyone to watch. Well over in the UK, we have the first unofficially official “unbagging” video. That’s right, this G-Nex came straight out of a postal mailer. A member of Samsung Mobiler, a program that sends devices out early for people to review, received said lovely package containing the G-Nex. As I go sign up for the program, watch the video and start thinking about how less patient you are becoming while we wait for a release date.

There is also of setting up the face-lock feature video which shouldn’t be missed.

Kindle Fire Unboxing and Quick Hands-on

I guess it’s just a video kind of morning here at Droid Life. In order to keep that theme going, we wanted to toss out this quick unboxing and hands-on that I was able to put together yesterday afternoon when my Kindle Fire finally arrived.

Some early first impressions? I love the whole experience that Amazon is bringing over the top of Android. It doesn’t necessarily feel or look anything like Android, but you still have some of the same functionality with on-screen home, back, menu and search buttons. You have a notifications bar, quick toggles for WiFi/Volume/Brightness, and most importantly, in runs all of your favorite apps.

You have also got to love the built-in Amazon cloud and shopping experience. As someone who purchases music and almost anything else he can think of through Amazon, having it all at my fingertips on a single device is lovely.

And by the way, it has already been rooted too. Instructions on the way.

I will say that the software probably needs a bug fixing update already. Something as simple as having to press the back button multiple times to go backward continues to happen to me every time I pick it up. But hey, it’s Amazon’s first attempt at their own full-blown OS skin, so we’ll try to cut them a little bit of slack. There aren’t any major bugs that I have run into through my first few hours with it.

Has anyone else picked one up? Would love to hear your early thoughts as well.
