Android 4.4.2 Firmware Leaked for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T

For those among us who just can’t want any longer for an official rollout of Kit Kat to the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T, firmware has been leaked through XDA that will allow you to run Android 4.4.2 on your device before it is shipped out to the general public. And while flashing unreleased firmware can sometimes be dangerous for your device, the feedback so far on the forum is all good except for one random reboot bug for the GS4 which appears when watching videos. Besides that, both firmware packages seem quite stable.  (more…)

Verizon Galaxy S4 Already Rooted After VRUDMI1 Update

verizon galaxy s4

Some of you were probably holding off from updating your Verizon Galaxy S4 to the latest VRUDMI1 build until someone had rooted it, am I right? Hold off no more. “Root de la Vega” by @OpenGears (ported to the GS4 by @BeansTown106is now available for download. It requires Odin and a set of very specific steps to accomplish the task, but I’d imagine you are up for it if keeping root is something of importance.

You can find the file and instructions below, but I’d highly recommend hitting up the XDA thread for support.  (more…)

Verizon Galaxy S4 has Been Rooted Again Running Build VRUAME7

verizon galaxy s4

As many of you know, the newest update for Verizon’s Galaxy S4 (build VRUAME7) patched up the previously released root and bootloader bypass exploits. It’s no secret that the most recent update to many of the Samsung Galaxy S4 variants in the U.S. patched up the previous bootloader and root exploits that were discovered by Dan Rosenberg. The Verizon variant is one in particular that is no longer a free device (Dobby is a free elf), so as has been the case with locked down devices over the years, we have a growing bounty on our hands that in only 8 days has eclipsed the $3000 mark.  (more…)

Verizon Galaxy S4 Gets a Google Play Edition ROM Port

galaxy s4 google play

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition launching at the end of last week, it only makes sense that developers would do their best to bring ROMs from it to every variant of the device. The Verizon version of the GS4 is one of the first to receive the love, which isn’t all that surprising, but seeing as the GPE is a GSM phone, you can imagine that a bit of work went into making this work properly.  (more…)

google wallet nfc

The two entities Google Wallet and Verizon have had a rocky relationship ever since the service launched. Verizon jumped on ship with ISIS as the mobile payment system they wanted on their devices, so anytime you wanted to use Wallet, it has to be through the rooted channel. Thanks to the hard working guys at XDA, you can now install Wallet on your new Galaxy S4, but once again, you must be rooted.  (more…)
