SBF files have saved more than a few people’s phones if flashing ROMs gets a little out of hand. It allows you to flash a stock image of the phone in a last case scenario and is always good to have around just in case. The DROID 3 is seeing some love with a new SBF file released, of the .906 firmware build, for download today, and you even get to choose which method you like.

For those who like the safety of a one-click method, you can download the file and let the program do it’s thing while you relax. If RSDLite is more your cup of tea, XDA developer ovelayer has that file for you as well. Either way you use, the SBF will revert your phone back to .890 if you would ever need it. Generally these are good to have around if you are a prolific ROM flasher, so head over to XDA and get the download now.

Owners of Motorola devices who might want to flash some vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich with no Blur attached now have additional options when looking to do so. There have been ICS ROMs available already, but there was a bug involved that hindered the camera from working properly in some of them. And for some, a non-working camera is a complete no-go. 

Below we have a few ROMs that have working cameras and little to no bugs beyond that. If you want to flash any of these, know that you must be rooted and we hope you have a basic understanding of how flashing custom ROMs to your device works.

Camera Finally Working in Bionic, RAZR and DROID 3 Ice Cream Sandwich ROMS is a post from: Droid Life

After last week’s return of Custom ROM Friday, we could see that folks sure did miss it. So this week, we bring you a few ROMs that should tie you over until next week. First up, we have GummyNex 0.7.0 by developer Kejar31 and Syaoran12. If you have been flashing ROMs on the Galaxy Nexus, then we are sure you have come across this name at least a few times. It brings the speed, customizations, and stability that people look for in daily drivers. 

With too many features to actually list out, we will try and pin point a few of the big ones: Kernel capable of being clocked to 1350MHz, soft key modifier, changeable lockscreen, and so much more.

Instructions:

1. Download GummyNex 0.7.0  zip and Gapps zip. (Place both on your phone’s storage.)
2. Create NANDROID backup.
3. Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery and wipe data/cache.
4. Install the GummyNex 0.7.0 zip.
5. Once finished installing, then install Gapps zip.
6. Reboot.
7. After you have finished all of those steps, you’re ready to party.

If anyone happens upon some issues, just shoot your questions don below and we will try our best to help out.

Other Devices:

For those of you who do not own the Galaxy Nexus, we have love for you too. Down below we  will try to feature ROMs for other devices as well that we have received word on over the last few weeks.

• DROID 3:  First off is Maverick ROM from developer pedwards3x. It is one of the most fully themed ROMs for the D3 we have seen and has a complete list of features that are sure to blow our Blur fans away. Info on flashing and downloads can be found here.

• HTC Rezound:  Owners of the HTC Rezound may be wanting to give some Vanilla Android a shot. A developer by the name of scrosler has been able to bring Ice Cream Sandwich and all of its sweetness to the device in his beta release of SenselessROM 2.0. Custom ROM Friday: Builds For Galaxy Nexus, DROID 3, And HTC Rezound is a post from: Droid Life

The wait is over. Kejar and JRummy have finally released Liberty ROM to the public for both the DROID3 and DROID Bionic. As is customary with their ROMs, you get a mostly Blur-free UI, “from source” built apps, snazzy yellow and black theme (@davekover), and a whole bunch of customizable settings to really make this your own. Their work has always been some of our favorite here at DL and wanted to share with those of you who may not be familiar yet.  

Downloads:  Liberty DROID3 | Liberty Bionic

Instructions:

1. Download the correct file for your phone from above and drop it on your SD card.
2. Make sure you have root and Clockwork recovery installed.
3. Boot into recovery via Bootstrap.
4. Select “wipe data/factory reset”.
5. Select “Yes — delete all data”.
6. Go back.
7. Select “install zip from sdcard”.
8. Select “choose zip from sdcard”.
9. Find and select LibertyXX.zip.
10. Select “Yes” to flash the file.
11. Reboot and enjoy!

We are definitely getting close now. CyanogenMod 7 is booting up on the DROID3 and people are feeling the excitement. In the video description it says that there are a few non-working things, but that work is continuing, and they should have all the kinks worked out soon.

The first set of ROMs for the the DROID Bionic and the DROID3 are starting to pop up now that we have official bootstrap apps and an easy root method.  The two we have listed below each have been de-bloated, include tweaks to build.props, and run on the latest firmware available.  There will likely be many more on the way, including one from Team Liberty which is rumored to be available in the Liberty Toolbox already.

I can speak from personal experience that up until now, experimenting with the D3 was always playing with fire because there was no safety net to fall back on incase something went horribly, horribly wrong. Now, thanks to some great guys over at XDA there has been a flashable file released that has been proven to un-brick previously lost D3′s. Oh happy day.

Droid 3 Unbrick SBF Released to Ease Your Hacking Fears is a post from: Droid Life

Actually, this method should root just about any Motorola phone running Gingerbread.  So not only will it work on the DROID3, DROID2, DROIDX2, and DROIDX, but it should also work on the DROID Pro and D2 Global when they receive an update – hopefully the DROID Bionic too.  We were inspired to write this for the simple fact that the D2 received Gingerbread last night finally, and within 5 minutes I was rooted.

Thanks to Framework43 and psouza4 for putting this together.  It couldn’t be any simpler than this method right here.  

Download:  MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip

Instructions:

1.  Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2.  Download the MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip file from above and unzip it to your Windows PC.
3.  On your phone go into  Settings>Applications>Development and check the box for USB Debugging.
4.  Plug phone into your computer and select “Charge Only” mode.
5.  Navigate to MotorolaOneClickRoot folder and run MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe.
6.  Follow the instructions in the command window.
7.  Your phone will complete 3 steps, rebooting along the way.  When it finishes, you will be rooted.

How to: Root the DROID2, DROIDX2, DROIDX, and DROID3 Running Gingerbread is a post from: Droid Life

Struggling with the manual rooting method for the DROID3 that was released this morning?  No need to stress.  A 1-click easy root has already been created by Framework43 and psouza4 for those of you with Windows machines.  The instructions couldn’t be more simple.  Oh, and our homie @P3Droid is pretty sure that this rooting method will work for all Moto phones running Gingerbread.  Hello, Bionic?  Unless of course, Moto finds a way to patch it before we see that phone on September 8.

Instructions:

1. Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2. Download and unzip ‘Droid 3 easy root script v5′ - [Download 1-Click]
3. On your phone:  Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
4. Plug phone into computer and select “Charge Only” mode
5. Navigate to ‘Droid 3 easy root’ folder and run ‘Click to root your Droid 3.bat’
6. Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.

The DROID3 has reportedly been rooted by XDA member djrbliss, one of the dedicated few that have worked non-stop on the device over the last few weeks.  No photo evidence has been presented just yet, but we may have it within the next hour.

And I should point out that while this is huge news for D3 owners, this might be bigger news for potential DROID Bionic owners.  Since both will likely run similar everything including Android 2.3.4, we can cross our fingers that this root method will work on it as well.

Log in to the device using “adb shell” and type the following commands:

Next, physically reboot the device by pressing the power button. When it wakes up, log in using “adb shell” again, and type the following:

The ro.sys.atvc_allow_all_adb property is a Motorola-specific configuration that prevents ADB from dropping its root privileges. Reboot the device one final time, and on logging in with “adb shell”, you should be presented with a root prompt. Enjoy!
