New Full MIUI ROM for Original DROID Blows Us Away

The serious workaholics over at the MIUI Forums are doing something right. Only they could get me to run a somewhat Apple UI on my OG Droid. “Tim, what the heck are you doing?!?” is something that I’m expecting to hear, but let me tell you something – I really enjoy this! They have reinvented the way I use my phone….again! With an insane amount of themes (easily switchable) what more could you ask for?

Back in September we featured an awesome video showing off what MIUI had to offer, but now, this version which we are showcasing here is for the Original DROID 1 only. Be on the lookout for different versions for you favorite device. It has some insane features currently not availble for anything else. You’ll find tons of toggles in the pull down bar, changeable lockscreen wallpaper, black and white list of phone numbers, whole new phone.apk UI, etc. etc. My list goes on. (more…)

A DROID Boot Animation In Memory Of Sadie

December 19th will mark the 1 year anniversary of the passing of the daughter of one of our Droid community members.  While I won’t even attempt to put into words how great of a loss this must be, I at least wanted to share something that a few amazing members of this community have done to help support the family through such trying times.

Liquidzgrl (of Liquid Frozen Yogurt ROM) answered the call and created the boot animation that you are seeing above in memory of this lost child.  Many members of the Android community have chosen to use this new boot animation over the next couple of weeks in honor of Sadie and her grieving parents.

If you are interested in showing support on your phone, you can find the file and instructions at this forum thread.

And if you have words of support for both Andrew and his wife, please feel free to leave them down below.

DROID Lockscreen Gestures Loaded into CyanogenMod 6.1 RC5

CyanogenMod for the original Droid just got even more amazing, this time with lockscreen gestures from mtwebster.  What are lockscreen gestures?  Think of Google Gesture Search, only in a more practical manner on your lockscreen so that you can actually get some use out of i.t  You will now be able to set gestures to open up applications or perform actions and I’ll admit, this is pretty awesome.  Pull up your dialer, text message app, Facebook, or start navigating all from your lock screen with a simple swipe.  Not bad, right?

You can find this latest build in ROM Manager.

To set up gestures, open up Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input settings>Lockscreen gestures and get rolling!

DROID Theme Friday: Pink and Tang for LFY

Another glorious Friday has come! I’m feeling good today, so I have decided to shoot for a double Custom Theme day, plus I really enjoy this developer’s work.  He has a ton of themes with matching boot animations that were created by himself and his girlfriend!  Here’s my question though…“Why can’t I have a girl like dat?”

The base ROM for these themes is called LiQuId FrOzEn YoGuRt that has great overall stability and coolness, but remains classy and streamlined.   (more…)

SuperOneClick Should Root Most Devices, No SDK Required?

Say hello to SuperOneClick, the latest 1-click rooting method.  I know what you’re thinking, “Here we go again with the 1-click root thing,” right?  Before you get too down, understand that this method, while appearing to use adb commands, should work without actually having the Android SDK installed.  I know from past rooting writeups, many have expressed their dislikes towards the SDK, but this should change that opinion a little.   (more…)

Dark Edge V1.0 Released, Now in Update.zip Format

Dark Edge for the original Droid might still be the greatest theme created for any Android device and with today’s V1.0 release, it looks like it might be a while before anyone dethrones it.  If there was one drawback to previous versions, it would have been the incredibly intense installation process, but with this new release, Xeudoxus and REALigion have put together an update.zip which makes it as easy as any other theme you’ll find.  You now don’t have an excuse to not be using this.   (more…)
