Tuesday Poll: State of Your Android Phone – Rooted, Stock, or ROM?

by: | posted 01.17.12 | Polls

It has been a while since we asked the DL community how their phone rolls when it comes to rooting. And since a certain root-friendly device was released last month on Verizon, it’s about time we ask again to get a feel for it all. Are you unrooted and sticking with what the manufacturer has provided? Are you rooted, but not interested in changing anything substantially? Or did you go all in and toss on a custom ROM, theme, kernel, etc.?

As always, feel free to leave your setup in the comments - specific phone, ROM, theme, and kernel are appreciated.

Monday Poll: Random Reboots Plaguing Your Galaxy Nexus?

by: | posted 01.16.12 | Polls

A report concerning Galaxy Nexus random reboots is making waves this morning, so we thought we would turn to the greatest Android community on the planet for feedback. Google is apparently aweare of the issue and is looking into a fix, assuming they can find one. I’ll admit that I have seen more than a handful of emails from readers over the last few weeks that have indeed experienced reboots at times, but having not experienced any myself (or Tim for that matter), we were waiting to see if the issue grew.

Well, once I hit Vegas for CES last week, my phone actually did start locking up and then rebooting multiple times a day. It would normally happen for me when toggling through notifications, but we are hearing that there may be multiple causes. The odd thing is, now that I’m back in Portland, have not had 1 reboot in 3 days. I should also point out though, that I am running the leaked radios from a few weeks back and may not be the best of examples. Since many of you are also running these though, we have added them to the poll.

Friday Poll: Most Memorable Moment From CES 2012?

by: | posted 01.13.12 | Polls

And we are off to the airport, officially closing out our time at CES 2012. While we will have a recap of sorts later on, I did want to say that I’m coming away a little disappointed. This wasn’t even close to the CES of 2011 where we saw the introduction dual-core processors, the first wave of tablets, 4G LTE and more. It sort of felt like an in between year for mobile technology, at least at this event. From what we heard throughout the week, MWC in February could be massive.

We still want to ask though, if you came away impressed by anything? Was their a best moment of CES for you? Are Verizon’s new LTE phones top tier or so-so? Are their too many tablets on the market now, or not enough? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Tuesday Poll: What Was Your Favorite Announcement From Yesterday’s Press Events?

by: | posted 01.10.12 | Polls

It’s only been two days here in Vegas at CES, but we already have some really exciting news from a wide variety of manufacturers and carriers.  Motorola and Verizon have teamed up again to bring us the new RAZR MAXX and the DROID 4.  Those of you who like smaller tablets might be more pumped about the 4G LTE powered Galaxy Tab 7.7 from Samsung or how about Asus bringing an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet to the market for $249?  So far, it has been a great year and we are just getting started.  CES officially starts today.

Wednesday Poll: What are you hoping to see in 2012 from the world of technology?

by: | posted 01.04.12 | Polls

2011 by all means, was an incredible year for Android and mobile technology. We saw dual-core processors everywhere, two new versions of Android, tablets galore, NFC, 4G LTE, and so much more. But now that we are 4 days into 2012, it’s time to start talking about the year ahead and the things you would most like to see. Next week’s CES is always a good gauge for how 2012 could unfold, but we have a feeling there will be more than what we see there that will still make waves throughout the year.

Are you wanting more tablets? More quad-cores? The next version of Android? More NFC? You tell us. Our poll includes some of the first things that come to our minds, but feel free to leave anything you wish to see in the comments below.

Thursday Poll: How Do You Pay Your Verizon Bill Each Month?

by: | posted 12.29.11 | Polls

The talk of the last day has clearly been the new $2 “convenience fee” that Verizon plans to charge customers who pay their bill each month via credit or debit card over the phone or online starting January 15. While there are plenty of options out there that can get your around this fee, we couldn’t help but wonder how the majority of you currently pay your bill each month. Are you paying with a card online or over the phone and are subject to this new charge? Do you use autopay? Anyone using snail mail? Let us know.

Droid Life’s Look Back At 2011 In Numbers

by: | posted 12.28.11 | News, Polls

We have a huge love for people’s opinions here at Droid Life, which most of you have gathered as participants in our well known reader polls.  Over the course of this year alone, we have posed about 70 different poll questions, asking that you share things like which devices you want, what features you need, and even what apps you can’t live without. As a community driven news outlet, there is not a better way for us to decide the direction of the site than through these polls. Plus, they are a ton of fun. At the end of 2011, we have reached 650,000+ total votes casted and more than 480,000 comments.  To us, those numbers are mind-numbing.

So down below we have gone ahead and pulled some of the top polls, charted them, and then presented them in a way that will give us all a look at what 2011 was all about. Who were the most popular manufacturers from one quarter to another? Are unlockable bootloaders important during the purchasing decision? Did any of our 2011 predictions come true?  Enjoy.
