The battle of the summer phones on Verizon appears to have been narrowed down to just two as of today:  the DROID Bionic by Motorola and the Samsung Galaxy S II.  Both have out of this world specs like dual-core processors, 1GB of RAM and the latest version of Android, but there still could be a thing or two that would make you choose one over the other.

The Bionic has been the most anticipated and talked about Verizon phone that we’ve seen in a while, but we can almost guarantee (unless something wild happens) that it will have a locked bootloader, not-so-hot PenTile screen, and MotoBlur.  The Galaxy S II on the other hand will have a slightly smaller yet much more vibrant screen along with an unlocked bootloader, but may not come with a 4G LTE radio.  We’re just wondering if LTE in this case would be a killer to you?  Is an unlocked device with an amazing screen worth passing up on just because it won’t run on Verizon’s LTE network?

*Note – Most of the specs and bootloader/LTE talk in this poll are our guesses and opinions on what these phones will likely ship with.  There have been no official announcements as to whether or not these phones will be locked down or if the Galaxy S II will have LTE.

Not much of a poll, but more of a question. With so many new devices coming out we want to know which device you are using and if you’re not stock, what ROM are you running? We’ve asked this in the past (1) (2) and always like to know about our readers and make sure we’re delivering what you like to see. So in the comment section below, feel free to tell us what you’re up to.

You have all had the official DROIDX Gingerbread for at least a few days now, which means it’s time to start reporting issues that you are running in to.  Our inbox isn’t completed filled with bugs, so we’ll assume that Motorola must have done a pretty decent job this time around?  We are hearing that some users are having text messaging issues where messages aren’t threading correctly.  And then there were a couple who actually ran into a bricked device after updating.  Anything else though?  Any fixes that you’ve found?

The Motorola XOOM 2 made its first appearance yesterday and many of you started wondering if you should question the recent original XOOM purchase you just made.  Can’t say I don’t blame you for at least wondering about the near future.  After all, NVIDIA has been prancing around the interwebs with its new Kal-El quad-core processor that they told us would be ready for tablets by the end of August.  We’re starting to see games and demos made specifically for this new chipset, which has us all wondering if now is the time to hold off on making that next big purchase.  Who’s to say we can’t grab a Tegra 2 tablet for half the price in 4-5 months when these quad-core beasts start rolling out?  There is a rumor floating around that this XOOM 2 could be ready by fall and with the website appearance from yesterday, it’s looking more and more likely.

So, should we be upset by all of this change?  I’ve been talking with friends about the speed of introduction of mobile technology these days, and all we can find to compare it to is the PC days in the 90s.  You know, the days where you bought that first 600MHz Pentium 2 for $800 and the next month it felt ancient because the Pentium 3 1.0GHz had dropped.  Are we about to see the same thing with mobile technology, specifically with tablets?  The Tegra 2 has really only been out for 5 months now and it almost seems like last year’s news with all this quad-core talk.

Your thoughts on the quickness that we are seeing new technology introduced?  Excited?  Depressed?  Wondering how you are going to keep up?

Next Thursday is shaping up to be a huge Android launch day for Verizon, with the DROIDX2, Xperia PLAY and possibly even the LG Revolution all becoming available.  One is dual-core, another is stock Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the other is 4G LTE, but are any of them your next phone?  Can a qHD screen, gaming pad, or front-facing camera help you decide?  And not to hi-jack this poll before you’ve even hit the voting part, but can you imagine a phone that combined all of these things?

We walked out of yesterday’s keynote thinking, “Wow, we just saw so much amazing stuff…how did they pack it all into an hour of time?”  Ice Cream Sandwich was made official, Android 3.1 with Movies was released, we saw the crazy future with Android @ Home and so much more.  It was quite the day…anything stick out as your favorite part?

When the HTC Thunderbolt was first released we talked a lot about rooting it, but once some custom ROMs starting popping up, we sort of backed off until we heard from readers on their favorites.  We were also waiting to see which ROMs were popping up as the most popular and with the most support before we started pimpin’ any of them.  Well, it’s time we start pinging some of our brave rooted and ROM’d readers to see which Thunderbolt ROM is fulfilling their needs.  Is it Das BAMF?  Liquid Thundersense?  Let us know!
