My favorite time of the year – in terms of sports – is here. The 2014 NCAA men’s basketball tournament kicks off this week, so that can only mean one thing – the DL Bracket Challenge with fabulous prizes. We have done this challenge for years, with the number of entries growing dramatically. And rightfully so, filling out an NCAA bracket can be done by anyone, whether they know basketball or not. The Toast wood cover company in Portland, OR is hard at work, trying to make more cases available for a variety of different devices. The newest case to be made is available is for the Moto G, which is actually Motorola’s most successful device of all time according to the Illinois-based manufacturer. Toast wood covers are 100% made in the United States, with a very small portion of materials (Ebony and Bamboo wood) coming from overseas.
The cases start out at just $25, with four different wood options to choose from – Walnut, Ash, Bamboo, and Ebony. Front wood covers are also sold separately for an additional $10. Buyers can choose to have custom text added to their design, priced at $5. (more…)
These covers are made right here in the US of A, in the wet and wild area of Portland, Oregon. Toast covers are essentially a “sticker” made of real wood on the outside, with extremely sticky 3M adhesive on the inside. Once applied to your device, the cover isn’t going anywhere. Unlike the wood backs you would get on Moto X, the wood on these covers is less treated, meaning you will be feeling your wood grain for days after applying, and they age great. If you watch any American Pickers, you’d know it’s all about the patina.
The wood itself is harvested on the East coast, with the exception of the Bamboo and Ebony options, which are brought from overseas. If you seriously haven’t seen our factory tour yet or hands-on video, then we highly recommend you go do so. (more…)
The ultimate day of love arrives next week as either a reminder that you forgot to make dinner reservations in a timely manner or will be by yourself with a carton of chocolate ice cream and bottle of Chardonnay. Or maybe you played your cards right and will have a wonderful Valentine’s Day evening with that special someone. No matter what, the situation can only get better if there is music involved.
Thanks to our friends at AT&T, a red MINI JAMBOX could be yours to both jumpstart the evening and hopefully help you seal the deal (minds out of the gutter). (more…)
Yesterday, we unboxed the red Nexus 5 in typical fun fashion. It was a good time and all, but during the clip, we mentioned that we had a second unit floating around the DL offices that would more than likely end up in the hands of one of you. Because we stick to our word, it’s time now to give this bright red Google flagship away.
The red Nexus 5 was introduced earlier this week as a third colorway for Google’s latest smartphone. Outside of the bright red exterior, it’s no different than the black or white variants that have been around since late 2013, and even comes in both 16GB and 32GB models at $349 and $399, respectively. From the comments of our unboxing, we can tell that people either love or hate the color – there isn’t much room for a mixed opinion on this one. Personally, I’m a fan, but I’m a fanboy of all things bright, shiny, and Google.
Whoever wins this, let’s hope you like beacons of bright red light. You ready? (more…)
This weekend, outside of your Super Bowl festivities, you will have a chance to walk away from DL with a $50 Google Play gift card for doing almost nothing. We are giving away five to be exact, meaning there are $250 in prizes up for grabs to the community. This isn’t our first contest of the year by any means – already gave away a Nexus 5 and some Nexus 7 sleeves – but I do believe this is the largest amount of Google Play gift cards we have ever given away at one time, if that means anything to you.
We figured, why not start the year off right? You ready to be $50 richer? (more…)
Yesterday, we took a belated look at the official Sleeve for the 2013 Nexus 7, since it has temporarily dropped from its steep $30 price tag. In case you missed that review, we actually love the damn thing. It’s beautifully designed, uses premium materials, and fits the Nexus 7 like a glove. It also comes in four beautiful colors, all of which we have on-hand to giveaway today. That’s right, since we told you not to buy this sleeve back in August when it first became available, it only seems fitting that we hand them out to a few of you for free.
This Sleeve, along with a handful of other Nexus accessories, are on sale for a limited time through Google Play at 25% off. You can find the Nexus 7’s Folio (which we wouldn’t recommend) and Case, along with the Bumper (another we wouldn’t recommend) and QuickCover for the Nexus 5.
Who wants a Sleeve? (more…)
The Droid Life team is partnering up with Cruzerlite, a maker of fine cases for a variety of Android devices, to give away a brand spanking new Nexus 5 32GB smartphone. We have reviewed and given away plenty of Cruzerlite cases for different Android-powered devices before, so we are happy to be working with them yet again.
The Nexus 5 is still a top contender for best phone for your money on the market, with its 5″ 1080p display, timely updates to new versions of Android from Google, and that speedy Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor.
As we typically do for contests, we’ve gone with Rafflecopter since it makes the entry and winner choosing incredibly simple for everyone. You can enter numerous ways (giving you more entries) or by picking and choosing. It’s completely up to you, but this way we give more people an opportunity to win.
This contest is for U.S. entries only. Ready? (more…)
