What, you didn’t have your celebrity Android fix for the day? Well, here you go. George Clooney was in Malibu this week filming a smartphone commercial and just so happened to have a Galaxy Nexus on him. We are going to go ahead and assume it wasn’t a commercial for the G-Nex since they blacked out the Samsung logo on it, but thought we’d share anyway. I wonder if it’s running 4.0.4? AOKP maybe? LTE or unlocked? How does George roll?

Now, back to the NBA Playoffs or a beer or kimchi tacos or your son’s baseball game or whatever it was you were doing for the evening.

Possibly the cleanest snapshot of the DROID Bionic yet, showing off its super fast 4G LTE speeds. This latest picture was snapped by Yoda Man over at the Android Forums, and he doesn’t mind giving us all a few little sneak peeks. No official word yet from Verizon, but we can only hope that we are not too far out. Anybody anxious for an announcement?

We know this whole delay fiasco has a few people turned off, but we are hoping once all the promo goes out, that people will fall in love again. Sometimes we wonder what would happen if September 8th just came and passed with no release. Riots? What is the Bionic’s top selling point in your minds? The 4G? 1 Gig of RAM? It’s not the i*hone 5?

Another DROID Bionic Speed Test, Showing Off Its 4G LTE Capabilities is a post from: Droid Life

We’re quite fond of the developers like Koveleski and Tha Phlash who are always bringing us new ways to make our phones sparkle with custom goodness. What’s so great about these different themes is that you don’t even have to be rooted to enjoy them, and all you need is a home replacement launcher such as LauncherPro Plus and ADW EX.

We’re going to post links to just five, but they have a very large list of themes, with even more on the horizon. You can check out some really awesome work that they have planned by visiting Tha Phlash’s website, here.

Custom Theme Friday: Five Kovdev Themes For ADW EX And LauncherPro Plus is a post from: Droid Life

We’re not shy to show our love for DropTheme. It’s been one our favorites for a long time, and now that it has been ported to the CM7 theme chooser in the market, it makes enjoying these themes so much more easy on all of our devices. And if you’re one of our newest CM7 users due to the release of CM4DX, then definitely check these out. There’s a few basic colors to choose from so far, including all the classics. Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow have been a landmark in the theme world.

Creator and maintainer of some of Android’s most popular themes, has now put up on the Market individual applications for all of the aforementioned devices’ wallpapers; putting them in easy to use, slick user interfaces. All users must do is download the application, hit Wallpapers from a home screen, then select from the different folders. We feature a lot of widget posts here on Droid Life; we believe that part of what makes Android so amazing is the ability to customize your home screen however you want. Sometimes, though, what someone’s thrown together isn’t enough; you need something a little bit more personal.

Make Your Clock Widget is an application currently in beta that allows you to do just that. At face value, it’s a very simple do-it-yourself app; from its menus, you can choose different elements of date and time, change their color, add a drop shadow, mess with layering and size, and generally muck about until you create something you’re happy with. This is great for fickle types like myself, who need to have things exactly so.  

Once a clock widget is finished, users will give it a name and save it. They can then share it with friends or allow it to be listed inside the app itself (requires an account sign-up.) Each app shows up under the “Make Your Clock Widget” section of the Android widget select menu, and can be set up to open an application upon clicking: I use mine as a really quick calendar reference tool.

Make Your Clock Widget does what it says on the label, and does it well. The app just works, and the only hiccups I had (involving selecting small objects with my fingertip) was ratified by a “list all elements” button, which allows layer selection. Users who want to take a look at a tutorial of how the app works can look at the video below; the developer himself gives a little run-through of all its features.

On a deeper level, though, Make Your Clock Widget is kind of like the Little Big Planet video game franchise: sure, you can spend five minutes to make a simple platforming level, but when you actually put time into your creation, you’re rewarded handsomely.

As someone who doesn’t have any programming experience, I welcome the ability to choose how deep I’d like to go with it. MYC users have taken otherwise mundane objects, like straight line separators, and used them to spoof creases in a folding clock clone, among other things. They’ve allowed themselves the freedom to experiment with a tool that allows them to be as precise (down to the pixel!) or imprecise as they wish.

And really, isn’t that what Android’s all about?

March’s magazines started showing up on doorsteps today and inside, our readers are finding all sorts of Thunderbolt and XOOM ads.  We found some earlier in the day from the SI Swimsuit Issue, but now we have more from Esquire, Popular Mechanics and Popular Science.  I’m sure you can find more in Rolling Stone and a variety of other publications, so feel free to post those in the comments should you run into them.  No dates given on any of them.

More XOOM and Thunderbolt Ads Pop Up in Esquire, Popular Science and Popular Mechanics is a post from: Droid Life

One of the difficult parts of this job is doing things like heading to the local market to pick up the brand new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and fondle it flip through it while looking for ads for the latest pieces of technology.  And sure enough, we were able to accomplish this difficult task which turned out to be a great success!  Like it wasn’t going to be anyway…

The Motorola XOOM found itself in a full page ad which we deemed far too removed from Irina Shayk, but the Thunderbolt sure opened up in a 2-page spread somewhere near Peter Island and Brooklyn Decker’s section.  Neither ad includes a release date, but we’re still holding out for the 24th.  And now you have an excuse to go buy this issue.  (Like you needed one?)

Thunderbolt and Motorola XOOM Ads Enjoy Time in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is a post from: Droid Life

Earlier I had some people over on my RedWall review ask me what clock widget app I was using, so I thought I’d oblige that. This awesome clock is called the BobClockD3, and it comes to us from the fine people over at the XDA forums. The widget draws inspiration from the Korean-made Cowon D3 media player, which features a clock very similar to this one.

It’s available for free through a number of download links on the forum post. The one I’m personally using is a modified version of the original from user “lesa0208,” which has a number of color options available. However, you can only install one color at a time.

DROID X Makes Lengthy “Lie to Me” Appearance is a post from: Droid Life

This isn’t a complete joke, although we couldn’t help but laugh the entire time we watched it.  We’re talking about the trailer for Scream 4…speechless, right?  They are actually remaking the movie AGAIN, featuring almost the exact same cast of characters that managed to run and scream their way through enough bad reviews to warrant some sort of cult status.  There is one bright spot though, and that would be the star of the film.  At least that’s what we’re calling him…the OG DROID.  At some point in the movie, he makes an appearance although it looks like it might be right before someone dies.  Sad.

We’ve already featured a couple of Droid X appearances in OnStar commercials and print ads, but somehow missed this one.  The commercial is called “Show Off” and features a guy using his DX and OnStar app to remotely check out his car before giving it up to his lady friend who is off to have a “girl’s weekend.”

The Droid Snowbot commercial has  been updated again, only this time mentions the Droid 2 Global instead of the original Droid 2.  We sort of knew this was coming after watching Verizon swap out the Droid X in the last spot for the Droid Pro.  I mean, all they had to do was change one word in the end of the video plus toss in a new voice-over.  Give their marketing department credit for this Swiss Army Knife commercial.

DROID Snowbot Commercial Updated to Include DROID 2 Global is a post from: Droid Life

This whole not wanting to officially recognize the Droid 2 Global thing is starting to get silly.  In this new ad which I just pulled from this month’s Details, Verizon introduces the Droid Pro (our review) to the family as the new global beast, only the D2G is also pictured without a mention  Now, I think we all understand that they made a mistake by launching the original Droid 2 and are trying not to piss off the massive amounts of people that bought it just 3 months ago, but this phone could be a huge hit with its global capabilities and powerful 1.2GHz processor.  Not to mention that the keyboard crushes the OG’s and the OGD2′s…weirdos.

Oh, the Droid X is also featured.  Nice to see the big dog still holding his own after 5 months of life in the wild.
