Lapse It on Android Gives You 720p Time Lapse Video Without Having a Galaxy Nexus

by: | posted 11.11.11 | Apps, News

Kellex and I just went and played around with an app that was recommended by a reader. Needless to say the app worked just as intended if not better and we had a lot of fun while messing with it. The application is called Lapse It. Capturing HD time-lapse videos has never been easier and will be the first thing I do when I start my next road trip down I-5. Just set to how many snaps a second you want, render the video with a variety of different effects, then publish to your favorite social media sites. It’s that easy.

Google Maps and Adobe Flash Receive Updates – Live Events for Maps, One of the Last for Flash

by: | posted 11.11.11 | Apps, News

A couple of updates to some of our favorite apps are available in the market as I type this. Google Maps jumped to version 5.12.0 and includes live event listings in Places pages for some major global players like New York, San Francisco, Paris, Zurich and London. The GMaps team also removed the “Post to Twitter” option from reviews in Places – is it just me or does that seem really odd? Anyone taking bets on a G+ sharing option soon?

The other update is for Adobe’s Flash Player 11, which as you all know, has essentially been given the ax going forward. In build 11.1.102.59, we see “performance improvements and bug fixes” that have to do with security and stability. That’s it.

Is this the last Flash update that we will ever see? Tough to tell. I can’t imagine that Adobe would stop putting out security fixes as they are needed. We just won’t be seeing anything new that you would write home to your mother about.

Amazon Releases Android App Store Version 2.0, Kindle Fire Black Theme Included

by: | posted 11.10.11 | Apps, News

If you have the Amazon Appstore installed, then you were probably prompted late last night or early this morning to update it. This latest build is version 2.0, but more importantly, it matches the theme of the software that will come loaded on next week’s Kindle Fire tablet. It’s all charcoal, grey and black, along with some much needed UI improvements. This no longer looks like some 3rd party market, and instead feels much more like a part of a polished product that Amazon wants you buy on November 15.

So if you haven’t already, open up your Appstore and the update should be waiting for you.

Cheers Stephen, Anish, Kane and everyone else!

IM+ Adds Tablet Support, Other New Features – Amazon Version That We All Use Receives No Love

by: | posted 11.08.11 | Apps, News

There are probably more than a handful of you that own and utilize IM+ as a chatting service on Android. The “pro” version of the app – which is normally $9.99 – was free for a day on Amazon, causing us to write about it and eventually adopt it as a go-to-app for Google Talk, since well, pre-Honeycomb Android can’t seem to handle multiple accounts. So today’s update that introduces full-tablet support along with a more polished UI is awesome, except for the fact that the Amazon version hasn’t been updated yet.

Here is a list of the changes:

  1. Version 5.0 changes:
  2. Fully optimized for Android OS tablet computers
  3. Support of native Android OS “Share” feature
  4. IM+ widget allows to change status right from your Android home screen
  5. Typing notifications
  6. Upload your avatar right from IM+
  7. Group chats for AOL/AIM/iChat and ICQ
  8. Option to select a different notification for active chat
  9. All chats are saved under Chats tab when IM+ is restarted/reconnected
  10. Battery usage optimization

Solid, right? And here is where we run into issues with having multiple Android markets. Many of you only have and use this app because it was free from Amazon, but who knows when you will see the update for it. Meh.

Cheers everyone!
