Chrome 42 Update Will be Last for Ice Cream Sandwich Users

In a post published on the Chromium Blog, Google announced it is bringing an end to Chrome updates for users of Ice Cream Sandwich. While ICS users can still use Chrome even after support dies, the Chrome team states that, “Developing new features on older phones has become increasingly challenging, and supporting ICS takes time away from building new experiences on the devices owned by the vast majority of our users.”  (more…)

This Icon Pack is Hot: Ponoco

It’s been hard to get me away from Phix, a material-esque pack we wrote up a couple of weeks ago, but I’d say that Ponoco is in the running. Featuring over 750+ handmade, round icons, 44 cloud-based wallpapers, a pretty app dashboard, and support for your favorite launchers, there are few things not to like here.

Each icon has been crafted to highlight the app identifier set atop rounded bodies that feature a subtle crease through their middle regions. There is a bubbliness to Ponoco that really allows the icons to hover as they sit on your home screen. The colors are soft, muted, and work incredibly well with minimal-retro wallpapers, especially those included in the pack. This is an icon pack that moves far away from the long-shadow and stock Material Design trends.

Deal: Buy Unlocked Moto X “Pure,” Receive a $50 Discount and a Free Pair of $200 Bluetooth Headphones

The Galaxy S6s and HTC One M9 are arriving within a month, so it’s going to be tough to justify buying any other phone for the time being. Motorola is going to try to convince you that the Moto X “Pure Edition” is still worth it (and maybe it is for all we know), though, with today’s deal that will land you a new Moto X “Pure Edition” and a pair of TRACKS AIR Sol Republic Bluetooth on-ear headphones for just $449.94.

If you break it down, Motorola is basically giving you a Moto X “Pure Edition” with 16GB of storage, customized with MotoMaker, for $450. That’s a $50 discount over the normal full price. They are then tossing in $200 Bluetooth on-ear headphones for free.

Tough choice or are we all just waiting at this point?

Samsung’s JK Shin Talks Decision of Exynos Processor Over Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810

Now that we have passed the Galaxy S6 unveiling from Samsung, it is official that the Korea-based company opted to use in-house Exynos silicon to power its two newest flagship devices, instead of contracting out the job to San Diego-based Qualcomm for its Snapdragon 810 chipset.

What makes the situation important were the early reports that devices running the Snapdragon 810 were seeing overheating issues, with LG coming right out and denying the reports completely. However, whatever the case may be, Qualcomm lost its chance to power the newest Samsung devices, and now we are left with a new 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor inside both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.  (more…)

New Google Contacts Looks, Manages, and Gets Rid of Duplicates Better

Google gave us a big update to Google Contacts this afternoon, by introducing a “fresh look and feel” to an app inside of Gmail that has been painful to use over the years. The new web version of Google Contacts will now “conveniently” pool together contacts you talk to the most in Gmail, help you get rid of duplicates much easier, show recent conversations in contact cards, and even keep your contacts up-to-date automatically.  (more…)

The New “Be Together. Not the Same.” Android Commercials Just Keep Getting Better

I can’t count the number of times over the last few weeks that random emails popped into our inbox telling us that our new commercials, especially the one with the animals, are amazing. After the Super Bowl, we heard a dozen times, “This should have been played during the game! It would have been the best commercial!” Of course, these Android “be together. not the same.” commercials are not ours, they are Google’s. But one thing is clear – people absolutely love ‘em.

In the most recent two, Google goes in two directions – one to show different people, young and old, coming together to enjoy life. The other, well, it’s all about that Androidify selfie dunk. Come on, tell me you haven’t wanted to selfie dunk?  (more…)
