Video: LG Watch Sport Unboxing and First Look

The Watch Sport from LG went up for sale last Friday and it has now arrived at the DL offices. Before we can provide you with a complete review, though, we are obligated by DL law to provide you with an unboxing. No, it’s not an actual law, I made that up, but we do very much enjoy unboxing things.

To put it lightly, the Watch Sport is the largest Android Wear device I have ever put on, right up there with the TAG Heuer Connected. The Watch Sport features a 1.38″ Circle POLED display, Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, 4GB of internal storage, 768MB of RAM, and even LTE connectivity thanks to a SIM port on the backside of the device.

Other specs include NFC for use with Android Pay, a heart rate monitor, barometer, wireless charging, IP68 (water and dust resistance), and a 430mAh battery. For all of that, the price is set at $349. Provided the size, I will say, in comparison to the TAG Connected, that device has a 1.5″ display and a 410mAh battery, but a $1500 price tag.

Here’s the unboxing video so I can hurry along and get to reviewing this thing.

LG Watch Sport Unboxing

  • I was paid 104000 bucks previous year by freelancing online and I did it by working part-time for few hrs /daily. I followed a money making model I found online and I am happy that i was able to make so much money on the side. It’s beginner-friendly and I’m just so grateful that i found this. Here is what i did… http://statictab.com/iyxniid

  • Me

    Looks like Ben 10s watch

  • Walter Partlo

If the thickness didn’t totally kill it for me, the non-changeable bands did.

  • Tony

Bad thing is on this model you cannot change that ugly band due to antennas built into it. What a bad design. The Samsung Gear 3 Frontier has interchangeable bands. Unfortunately it has its own operating system and not Android.

  • Ajmcnicol

I was interested until i saw the thickness…rather have no lte and smaller battery so its not so ridiculous. And i dont need a heart monitor.

  • Champion1229

Kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but what is the size like compared to say a Moto 360?

  • Manthas

Methinks you missed something here, “Provided the size, I will say, in comparison to the TAG Connected, that device has a 1.5″ display and a 410mAh battery, but a $1500 price tag.”

You will say … what? Is this intended to be a positive comparison for the LG due to its non-luxury price? A commentary that TAG made a better device, but at its traditional luxury price point? Unclear statement is unclear.

  • Sequence of Sound…

Tim, did you notice that it said, “Tap to begin” ?

  • EP_2012

OMG, it’s like strapping a baseball to your wrist! They can make phones paper thin but watches have to be that thick?

  • Matt_man

Question for you Tim, can you connect a bluetooth headset like this to the watch and then use it for phone calls so you don’t have to talk into your watch when taking calls, etc.? https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Ultralight-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B00DQ5RHK2/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1487094777&sr=8-28&keywords=Bluetooth+Headset https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/25eb9a47de451d6ff1afff0646af04a7541673fdf6bd6c6c70e2a21bc7506692.jpg

  • steadymobb

    Looks yuge

  • john lens

But, But, I just bought the Gear S3!

    • JimmyHACK

Looks like you made the right choice.

  • MI95SHO

So that is what attempting to shovel 10lbs of sh*t in a 5lb bag looks like…

  • uptown18

Great job it will be a good contender for apple and Chinese company and it has a LTE port then it will be a plus point for it

    https://bestgiftsideasblog.wordpress.com/

  • Howard Stern ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Eff that. I thought the wahway was thick. This is just obnoxiously large.

  • NexusMan

    That bezel though.

  • NexusMan

If only the watch looked as good as that screen and the Motorola designed Moto 360 charging cradle that comes with it.

    • Duffman

It’s sad when a 1st gen looks better! I still haven’t found a replacement for my OG 360.

      • NexusMan

        Very.

  • Comk4ver

Is that paint on the watch or is it actual black metal? I may just dremmel it for a silver finish… Can you use a regular nano Sim for veriz or…?

  • Alan Burnstine

Wow, that is a monster. I was considering trading up from my Urbane, but the Urbane is already big for my skinny wrist. Also, don’t want to buy more chargers (I have one at home, one in the office, and one in my travel bag because, well let’s just leave it at that).

  • Orlando aka Pixel XL

I LOVE MY WATCH AND THE SCREEN LOOKS AMAZING! If you modify the screen brightness from automatic to 2-3, I got it to last two days without LTE or wifi on…

  • TypoCorrecto

GAWD DAMN! That thing is thick.

    • Raven

      That’s what she said!

  • Jaymus Lonestar

Any chance of getting a good old fashioned “written” review once it’s ready? Never understood the necessity of going all video with the reviews in the first place.

    • Yup, reviews for the Sport and Style will be written 🙂

    • trixnkix637

They’ve never stopped written reviews. This is an unboxing video. Stay tuned lol.

      • Jaymus Lonestar

No, DL did not stop ALL written reviews. I did not mean to insinuate such. However, they have started doing “video only” reviews on some devices. Why is that so hard of a concept to get?

And yes… I know this is only an unboxing video. I never said nor suggested that this particular article was an actual review. In fact, anyone with a just a bit of reading comprehension should be able to infer that from my original statement. I’ll say it again but this time I’ll bold the key words.

“Any chance of getting a good old fashioned “written” review ONCE IT’S READY”?

        • trixnkix637

States: “Never understood the necessity of going ALL video with the reviews in the first place.”

Follows with: ” I did not mean to insinuate such.” “Why is that so hard of a concept to get?”

Regardless of intent… I mean I’d put it in bold so you can read and comprehend your own insinuation better, but honestly? Why should I?

Next time. If you don’t want to insinuate. DON’T. Pretty clear.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

All reviews are written… And this isn’t a review.

      • Jaymus Lonestar

No, ALL reviews are NOT written. There have been multiple “video only” reviews. With you being someone I’ve seen frequently in the comment sections of many of these DL articles, I can’t believe you’d make such an erroneous statement.

And… I never said nor suggested that this particular article was an actual review. In fact, anyone with a just a bit of reading comprehension should be able to infer that from my original statement. I’ll say it again but this time I’ll bold the key words.

“Any chance of getting a good old fashioned “written” review ONCE IT’S READY”?

        Happy Valentine’s Day!

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

          The words aren’t bold.

          • trixnkix637

He really doesn’t get it does he? Lol.

  • The Doctor

That thing is huge. Might as well get the Neptune Pine.

  • Joe Woodward

Would be nice if I could buy one without dishing out an extra $30 to Verizon…

    • Michael

my local ATT has them instock.

      • Joe Woodward

I was reading mixed things that people were unable to buy it without a plan. I want to get it from the Google Store but of course it is out of stock.

        • Ryan Bates

If you have at&t you can pay full price and then the $10 a month plan then call and cancel the plan with customer service. Did it myself, took less than 5 minutes.

  • bose301s

Dear lord that thing is ginormous.

    • Comk4ver

      That’s what she said

      • Ralph Macchio

        You wish

    • john lens

      Thats what HE said!

  • Michael Bassett
    • NexusMan

That would be it if it was NOT built by LG.

    • Howard Stern ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Need a job? Apply for lg now cause I’d buy your designs.

      • tu3218

You really think LG just thought to themselves, lets just make this device really thick for the hell of it! It’s thick for a reason. Because of all the hardware inside. They need to find a way though to make it like the design above.

        • Howard Stern ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Seems like others managed to squeeze just as much into their smart watches while focusing on power management with smaller batteries. So yeah, there’s that.

          • tu3218

Yeah I’m not saying it can’t be done. It can be. But LG failed to make it happen. But it’s not like they deliberately left empty unused space inside the watch just to have it big.

          • Howard Stern ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

            agreed with that point

  • How does it work to have a phone and a watch with the same phone number? Do you just tell your carrier “I want a second SIM that has the same number as the one I already have”? And they just give/sell it to you?

    • Ryan Bates

It gets its own special number that forwards to your main number.

      • Hmm…I don’t think I get it. If someone is wearing this watch, and they don’t have their phone around…and someone calls the person wearing the watch, it seems almost like their main number would forward to the watch number…or something like that. Do you have an LTE smartwatch?

  • Gekko

    nice job Tim.

  • Tim Buchanan

But the good news is, if you get caught in an impromptu game of pogs, that thing would make a killer slammer.

    • Kristiercooper

I just can’t fathom wearing a brick that size on your wrist. If that’s what it takes to get a decent Android Wear device, count me out. Just velcro your phone to your arm. It would be better looking and more effective.

    • NexusMan

I actually like big watches, but they have to look and feel good. This most certainly does not.

    • Ivan Figueroa

The Velcro is a good idea. It made me laugh.

    • sc0rch3d

As a runner, I commonly see serious athletes wearing tanks on their wrist. It’s more of a HEY LOOK AT ME, I’M SERIOUS ABOUT FITNESS. I formerly wore a pretty hefty GPS watch but I found that I liked carrying my phone more so it could speak running information to me at set intervals.

      • hebrewHAMMER

Funny you say that because my older gen Garmin is like a pager strapped to my wrist. I paid a few hundred bucks for it so I won’t be replacing it until it craps out on me. However, the newer generation Garmin GPS watches look pretty nice and slimmer like a normal watch. I guess there is some hope. : )

        • sc0rch3d

What I really want is something like the Gear Fit 2 which seems to have the GPS and music features that I’d like, but I’m just not that in to wearables yet.

          • hebrewHAMMER

Hopefully wearables like the Gear Fit 2 will challenge the likes of Garmin and TomTom to come out with more affordable and feature rich products too.

    • Allen Yates

These things are impossible to wear under a dress shirt with long sleeves. Just too fat!

    • Brian Himes

To each their own. Personally, this is not a big watch.

      • Averix

How is this not a “big watch”? Are you saying it isn’t a watch because it’s a tiny computer? Or are you saying that compared to other watches it’s small?

        • Walter Partlo

I think that it isn’t as big as some watches that I have seen when looking at it from above, but the added thickness is totally different IMO.

  • Ryan N

Another botched launch by Google. Even refreshing the Play Store every 30 minutes on Friday I missed the window to purchase one of the DOZENS of units they had for day one… Oh well…

    • Michael

except this is LG, designed by Google

      • CabbageHeadCat.

        Try Best buy this weekend.

        • Ryan Bates

Best Buy is only carrying the Style, not the Sport.

      • NexusMan

        Actually, designed WITH Google.

    • Ryan Bates

I bought one but I’m thinking it’s a little too big for my wrist if you’re interested in buying it.

      • Saul Slowik

If it’s the Google edition, I’ll buy, gladly. Feel free to email, first . j . last gmail.

    • NexusMan

It’s not botched if they made 24 and sold out. It’s just your bad luck that you were the 25th and last person interested.

  • Duffman

    Dat thickness! Deal breaker!

    • Christopher Moore

      That’s not what she said!

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

at the gfs place with absolute sht internet… Waiting for the video to finish buffering.

    • Just put your phone down and make out. =)

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Make out? Lol… she’s not here though.

        • Ha! Time to snoop through her underwear drawer!

          • Michael Singer

What just happened? Android wear to underwear in .003 seconds flat

          • Duffman

You’d never see than on an Apple blog 😉 haha
