Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed this week that the company is working to bring a live video feature at some point in the future. While he gave no specifics on when it may launch, we can expect the live feature to be similar to Facebook Live. If you are in a situation where you wish to stream video to followers, simply open up the Instagram camera, then go live.
Speaking with Financial Times, Systrom said, “Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing. If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them.”
As detailed in screenshots of the experimental feature, live broadcasts will be highlighted in the same spot you see Stories inside of the app. If someone you follow is live, you should see a red ring around their profile photo, which will lead you directly to their broadcast.
Again, no idea when live video is coming, but it is.
