Samsung Announces the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, Available in April

Samsung didn’t waste any time in announcing their new phones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Somehow, they managed to keep these phones mostly under wraps leading up to today, which means we are actually in for some surprises. Leaks were close, but everything is now official. 

Like we sort of expected, we have a regular phone in the Galaxy S6, joined by the S6 Edge, which introduces a dual-edging to a phone. The phones each have 5.1-inch Quad HD AMOLED displays (577ppi), 2.1GHz octa-core processors, 16MP rear cameras with OIS, 5MP front cameras, 3GB RAM,and 32GB/64GB/128GB UFS 2.0 storage options. Samsung also tossed in wireless charging that works with either WPC or PMA certified devices. They threw in fast, turbo charging too. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have 2,550mAh and 2,600mAh batteries, respectively.

Unfortunately, the batteries are not removable and Samsung finally ditched the micro SD slot. If you buy one, you might want to go at least 64GB.

Each phone comes equipped with Samsung Pay, which is Samsung’s new mobile payment system that is built on LoopPay’s technology. For those new, LoopPay’s payment technology works with magnetic card readers, but Samsung Pay takes that further, allowing you to pay with NFC as well.

• Each phone is crafted in metal and glass, with Gorilla Glass 4 covering the front and back. They are lookers, that’s for sure.
• The cameras use F1.9 lenses and 16MP sensors with OIS.
• Uses world’s first 14nm mobile processor with 64-bit platform, new LPDDR4 RAM, and UFS 2.0 flash memory.
• Uses world’s first 1440p/VP9 hardware based codec to stream high resolution video without sucking so much power.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be available globally starting from April 10. Color options include White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (S6 only), and Green Emerald (S6 Edge only).
