It’s Wednesday, so as you would expect, Google is rolling out updates to its suite of apps on Android. Google Play Music is one of the first to see the love today, with a bump up to version 5.8.1809 (from 5.7). The update appears to be pretty minor and may only be UI tweaks.
The first and biggest change we are noticing is the new full-page slideout navigation drawer. Instead of the top action bar remaining uncovered as you slideout the drawer, we now get a full app-height drawer. It’s a sad move because it covers up that beautiful hamburger-to-arrow animation we love so much. Then again, this isn’t a new design move, as Google did this to Google Play back in December.
The only other noticeable tweak at the moment seems to be the “Download only” toggle that has changed from square to round.
