Sony may have unveiled a menagerie of new devices at IFA in Berlin last week, but that doesn’t mean its older tablets and smartphones are bound for obsolescence just yet. This morning, Sony support announced that an update to Android 4.4.4 has begun rolling out to the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, and Tablet Z worldwide.

Among other improvements, the new firmware (version 10.5.1.A.0.283) brings better battery and performance optimizations.

Here’s a complete changelog:

  • Upgrade to Android 4.4.4
  • Better battery performance in some background applications
  • Email stability and performance enhanced
  • General improvements to MMS, Calendar, WiFi, Contacts, and More
  • All of our latest bug fixes and enhancements

Own one of the aforementioned devices? Expect an update notification over the next few days, assuming the initial rollout goes smoothly.
