Galaxy Note 4 Camera Software Info Leaked, Samsung Continues Tradition of Bloating

samsung logo2

Leading up to any major device launch, we always see a plethora of leaks, which is always fun for us. The newest, posted by SamMobile, gives us a few major details for the camera software that will be baked into the Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung. As a reminder, this device is set to be announced on September 3 at IFA in Berlin, Germany.

Thanks to the detailed leak, we can take note of the different picture and video resolutions Note 4 owners can shoot in, as well as all of the insane camera modes that Samsung has included for the camera. To list just a few, which are not exactly new, Samsung has added in a “Create a GIF” mode, Selfie Alarm, Wide Selfie, and Eraser camera modes.

Sources claim that the Note 4 will feature a 3.7MP front-facing camera, and as for the rear-facing 16MP sensor, it is a Sony IMX240; the same one used in the Galaxy S5 LTE-A variant.

In addition, it appears that Samsung, who is well known for adding in a crap ton of extra camera software on their devices, has included a bunch of different live camera effects which users can choose from. Usually, you can use these effects while taking shots, and are not used as post filters that you apply after a photo is taken.

Finally, sources claim the camera app’s UI is just like the one found on the Galaxy S5, so we should not expect any surprises upon opening the application. But as a twist, it is specified that Samsung will include a “Side Touch” control button to snap shots. For example, with this sensor included, you can tap on the side of the device to act as a shutter button, without the need of a dedicated hardware button. That feature, alongside all of these, would be the coolest addition.

Take a look below for the full list of information that was leaked.

Note 2 owner here and I had kind of told myself next phone won’t be a note because of the size. However if it has killer camera (Side touch sounds nice as long as it works with cases) and huge battery I might have to get another. Really hoping the Moto X+1 has a great camera too, as it might be about perfect.

  • Richard Yarrell

Typical idiots on Droid Life nothing new this is the typical bend over to all things Google and suck stock android cock.

These guys do that bending over stuff real well. It’s pretty plain and simple nothing beats Samsung or the Galaxy Note products period.

    • squiddy20

And yet, just a few days ago, you were complaining about Verizon including more stuff (aka bloatware) in their phones (rumors of their new app store). And here you are claiming this isn’t the case here and that these guys are “bending over”. Bloat is bloat, regardless of if it’s from Verizon or Samsung. Oh wait, according to you, anything/everything from Samsung is a “feature” regardless of how useful it is.

  • FortitudineVincimus

I read elsewhere that “Selfie Alarm” actually is an alarm that says… “hey douche bag, this is one of those inappropriate moments to take a selfie”

  • http://cheaponlineshopping.us/ florencezoee

    Amazing ! a 3.7MP front-facing camera, and as for the rear-facing 16MP sensor

  • Jason Bittner

Someone needs to ban this Bryan Mills guy soon.
I get sick of coming to droid-life to read everything android and seeing nothing but this idiot in the comments.

    • cizzlen

      Yay censorship!

  • 213ninja

i’m not seeing the bloat…..what am i missing? why is everyone saying bloat? why is the title of this article bloat? what year is it? what planet am i on? why don’t they just change the name of this site to “I HATE SAMSUNG-LIFE”? the featured comment doesn’t help, using the term “bloat” is insinuating a riot plain and simple.

    • cizzlen

They should because apparently it will never change with these stock or nothing fan boys.

  • flosserelli

THIS is why Touchwiz needs 3+GB memory…and still lags like a demented 90 year old nursing home resident.

    • LivinInThe_808

Probably true. But a little extra RAM could never hurt, haha. And lag depends on each device, I believe.

    • koopadoop

You have the Note 4? Can we see?

      • flosserelli

All 5 Samsung phones that I have owned lagged with Touchwiz. I don’t expect the Note 4 to be any different.

        • koopadoop

So why do you keep buying their phones when you know it comes with Touchwiz?

          • flosserelli

Did you not read the last two sentences of my post? I ditch TW as soon as possible.

    • 213ninja

why? because they have hands down the best cameras in the business? my note 3 doesn’t lag one bit.

      • flosserelli

Well yours must be special because mine did.

    • crazed_z06

Because of the camera app? What are you talking about?

  • shmigga

Continues bloating by making a great camera app? Go download the Google Camera if you want less options.

    • Kevin

      You’re not getting the point!

      • shmigga

Which is???? Samsung should stop loading their apps on their phones?

        • Kevin

Which is? Why bloat up the camera and take up more storage than it already has?!?!? WHY NOT GIVE USERS THE OPTION TO BLOAT UP THEIR PHONE INSTEAD OF BLOATING IT FOR THEM? Do you get it now ?

          • LivinInThe_808

That sir, is a very good question. If the OEMs could do what Verizon proposed about allowing users to completely uninstall pre-loaded apps, I think everyone here would be satisfied and could settle

          • 213ninja

            i’d be all about that.

          • cizzlen

So there should be an option for every little feature that comes on these phones? And you think the average person is gonna want to go thru all that mess?

          • Kevin

The average user is going to be more happy to have memory on their phones rather than having this “feature”. And if they really want this feature, then they’ll go download it. That’s what the app store is for.

          • ultravisitor

I’m guessing the average user either barely knows all of the different camera options exist or doesn’t bother to use them.

          • 213ninja

it’s 2014. define average user? grandmas taking selfies bud.

          • shmigga

NOPE. I can understand complaining about other things…but the camera? Really??? Do you really care about the extra 5 MB that this app is going to take up?

          • Kevin

Not this app alone, but all apps together. Who knows what Samsung added to their other hundred apps. 5MB may not seem like nothing but when you added up with their other that they most likely have added :features” it takes up a lot of space.

          • shmigga

Yeah…they should make it so you can download all of the other apps from the Play store. Adding features to the camera app is about the only thing that is acceptable. I had a bunch of cool features that i used on my Fascinate back in the day. Some of them were gimmicky too…like smile shot. But it worked.

          • mgamerz

            Touchwiz is already like 8GB…

          • 213ninja

no. you don’t have a point. go buy a nexus.

          • Kevin

NO thanks. I don’t buy phones that look like a POS.

    • crazed_z06

Agreed. The stock Google Camera app is a joke..

  • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

To be clear, meant “bloat” as in stuffing the camera app full of features that most people won’t use. Not that it’s a bad thing. But kinda. Hope that helps. :D

    • LivinInThe_808

But we don;t really know how many people use it. It’s just an assumption that “most” people won’t use it.

      • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Well, we can always change our view once we have the phone in hand and pump out a review.

        • JSo

You should make a poll and see how many people actually use these bloat features.

          • koopadoop

Probably zero people as NO ONE HAS THE PHONE.

Tim fueling the hatemachine is as immature as the hatemachine is premature.

          • JSo

People have TouchWiz. I meant it as a general thing

          • koopadoop

These are camera features for the Note 4 though, no different than the M8 and their camera’s features or the Moto X and their lack of camera features.

          • JSo

Bloat is more than just camera features though. All I was saying is see how many people think that the “bloat features” in general are useful. I’d be curious to see.

          • koopadoop

This article is about the camera software on the Note 4, anything else is noise spewed out the haters’ mouths.

          • JSo

Well then I must have been caught up in the other conversations I was having in this comment section.

  • scotch1337

I pray for nexus 6 on Verizon now. Otherise I will be jumping ship… I have only been a android user, but I am tired of the software side and all the boat from Samsung or HTC or Verizon or T-Mobile ect ect… I just want a unified ecosystem. And if apple does have a 5.5 then that about raps it up. Until google figures out how to better manage this.

    • 213ninja

a little less congestion on my tower so they don’t throttle my LTE…peace.

  • LivinInThe_808

Camera features should not be considered bloat because the camera is a vital part of the phone itself. Useless apps that service providers throw in and those other things from the OEM that are clearly a copy of the original google (Media Hub, Galaxy Apps, etc.) services are what should be called bloat.

  • cruzfl0w

    It better have OIS

  • Mike

I really don’t understand why EVERYTHING that Samsung does is considered bad, bloated, junk, useless, uninteresting, or any of the other negative comments I see posted both as articles and comments from readers. Maybe it’s because this site is geared towards 20 somethings that think they know everything about everything and what is mainstream is instantly useless but I don’t see any reason for all the unnecessary negativity. While I wouldn’t use most of these features, I am sure there are people who are looking for a device with exactly these features which in turn would make them quite useful for that person. They take up space yes, but that space is formatted and blocked off for the system anyway so what’s the problem? I guess it’s wrong or bad if a company designs a product that offers advanced fuctionality or features according to DL or many of its readers.

    • jscheffer85

“They take up space yes, but that space is formatted and blocked off for the system anyway so what’s the problem?”

Heh, you just defined bloatware. Personally my beef with it is that it’s forced. We cannot remove it, if we don’t like the bloat…tough luck on us.

    • JSo

I think it’s because Samsung phones use the most space out of a (for example) 16 GB phone. It only leaves you with about 10 Gb. And that is due to all the features they pack in that not everyone uses.

      • banglaz bless

Go check lgg3 16GB then get back with your findings. I can tell you this much, it is pretty much the same system usage found in the s5.

      • Mike

As I said above, as long as there is SD they could make the rom 14 GB (need a couple gigs for apps ya know ;) ) I store anything important on external storage anyway.

        • JSo

I suppose. But what I’m getting at is that’s what the whole bloat argument is. That and people claim it bogs the UI down.

        • Kevin

Not all apps support SD card. So just think about that for a second.

    • Kevin

You must be new to Android. ;)

      • LivinInThe_808

You must be part of Crapple :)

        • Kevin

Haha I don’t own any “Crapple” devices.

        • Kevin

But to even think an Apple user well go online and visit a Android site and rant that his phone is better is cute. ;)

          • LivinInThe_808

It has been done before, lol

      • Mike

Not at all. I have had a Droid Charge (which i rooted and rommed the crap out of), Motorola Xoom (which i also modded the crap out of), Galaxy Tab 10.1 (rooted), Note 10.1 2012 (rooted), and I currently am using a Galaxy S3 (rooted). I have added my own little touches to all of my devices and I pretty much remove what I don’t use. I do understand that as rooting becomes more difficult the otion to remove things I don’t want will go away but I am cool with that. Quite honestly as long as Samsung leaves the SD card option and the ability to hide what I don’t want to see I am a happy guy.

        • Kevin

I guess you’ve never got to experience what a stock phone feels like. :(

          • LivinInThe_808

When it comes to stock devices, I think Moto did a great job with the Moto X. It added in subtle features that Nexus’ should have had with stock /.02

          • Kevin

You… I like you. Better and better with every comment.

          • LivinInThe_808

Lol, I’m a mixed person. Have owned at least one device from the main OEMs and can say at least one thing positive about each of them.. except maybe HTC, lol

          • Kevin

            HTC Thunderbolt. Amirite?

          • LivinInThe_808

Nope, farther back then that. Although I did have a friend that had that phone and did not like anything about it, lol

          • Kevin

            Let me guess. Droid Eris?

          • LivinInThe_808

Nope, not that far back, lol

          • CoreRooted

HTC HD2… That’s the only HTC device I can say anything positive about. LOL

          • Mike

I acutally have. One of my good buddies is crazy about this stuff. If it’s not Nexus it’s not worth the silicone it’s made from. My overall take from Nexus and stock devices is they lack the ability to really do anything. If I got a Nexus it would take me weeks of searching the Play Store to find apps to do the things I like to do on my Samsung devices out of the box.

          • LivinInThe_808

Out of curiosity, things like what?

          • Mike

I work in IT so I am constanly bouncing around my phone from calendars to email to admin apps and other things. I love the calendar and email widgets that Samsung has. I am able to quickly and easily see what meetings I have for the day along with a whole bunch of other stuff. I use the crap out of multi-window. I like that all the apps are tied together so my experience is fluid when I am using the phone. I don’t have time to screw around with my devices when I am working. These are my tools to get work done not something for me to work on or be constantly troubleshooting. I also heavily use s-memo and samsung link (I have multiple sammy devices so I can view content on all from one). Those are just the use cases that come to mind at the moment but I am sure there are more

          • LivinInThe_808

Fair enough. It works out for you, good. I have two Samsung devices at the moment right now so I understand what you mean about the two being tied together allowing for a more fluid experience. However, there are alternatives that are easier to sync. For example, stock Google apps available to everyone on the Play Store. I use Google Drive and Google Keep as alternatives to S Memo and Dropbox. They work flawlessly as they are install-able on all devices. /.02

          • 213ninja

not everyone prefers stock. there are millions that prefer touchwiz. did that just blow your mind?

          • Kevin

There are millions that prefer Justin Beiber, what’s your point?

          • 213ninja

and you judge them? my point is that other people don’t have to think like you. if people like touchwiz and samsung camera apps and the beebs that’s okay. it’s not wrong. there is not need to flame them or hate on them. and because there is a market, it’s pointless to flame on samsung. they are catering to their customer base. if you don’t like it the absolute best thing you can do is SAY NOTHING and buy something else. even bad publicity is good publicity, so your flame is just helping their bottom line.

          • cizzlen

Shh. Let him live in his little bubble.

        • LivinInThe_808

A couple things that every has to admit, is a good thing about Samsung. The removable battery, and the option for SD card storage expansion. Two changes that LG did when making the G3 compared to the G2

    • LivinInThe_808

People make like they control what they can have and not have on a smartphone. If they want stuff the way they want it but can’t get it in the real world then tough on them. They should go make their own phone. But a lot of people that complain about the bloat and stuff don’t realize that even if they take it out it still doesn’t clear up the space.

    • BillySuede

      this.

  • jscheffer85

Currently using the Note 3 and loving it but i swear, with every Samsung phone iteration, the bloat is getting worse. It’s making the LG G3 look more appealing by the minute. The battery might be not thrilling but slap a Zero Lemon battery on that bad boy and it’s party time!

    • cruzfl0w

Zero lemon on the note or g3? Might as well carry a brick.

      • jscheffer85

I was referring to using it on the G3. I have it on the N3 right now and yes, it might as well be the shield helicarrier. :P

  • BRIAN MUENTER

I just can’t wait to see what Android L will look like when samsung gets done…

    • JSo

      Ugly, I’m sure

  • zizo79

If it is like the S5, you get to download some of the camera modes – so it is not that bad. What is going to ruin it is the amount of bloat in other areas.

  • Simon Belmont

Ha. I bet Richard Yarrell is furiously fapping to this post.

“Oh, yeah, Samsung.” “You’re the gold standard, baby, period.”

    • PoisonApple31

I actually think it is Mr. Mills that excites Richard the most.

    • Simon Belmont

Yup. I was right. Talking about bending over and so forth. I guess he was doing a little MORE than fapping, period.

      See: http://i.imgur.com/5XPnvEG.png .

  • teebone

That’s freaking awesome!!!!! Who can’t like the wide selfie so you can take more than just a shot of 2 people and just plain old selfie, you wink at the phone and it takes the pic for you!! Awesome man awesome. Can not wait for the leaks to continue to flow through the next 2 weeks!!

    • 213ninja

      it’s to compete with GoPro.

  • Dustin Wood

“you can tap on the side of the device to act as a shutter button”

So pictures indoors will be even blurrier than ever?

    • Blue Sun

I think Samsung calls this a “feature”.

      • 213ninja

        how is it not?

  • Guest

Samsung is number 1 Android smart phone vendor for a reason, they provide what customers want, big & bright screens, memory expansion, removable battery, reasonable phone wieght, great camera etc.. No other phone in the market has all these features.

    • Blue Sun

      You already posted that…

      • BillySuede

no difference from the samsung haters who keep talking about touchwiz and lag. or is it different because he’s not engaging in groupthink?

  • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

Camera options shouldn’t be considered bloat, a lot of these are very useful in the world of social media. The hate is VERY real.

    • Suicide_Note

I’d say a wide-angle selfie mode is bloat. If you have ten people trying to cram into a selfie, have someone else hold the camera and shoot the picture as one normally would. It’ll result in a much better photo.

      • koopadoop

Yeah but who do you get, maybe the random local you get to take the photo wants to be in your selfie too… Wait didn’t they make a picture in picture feature just for this occasion…

      • 213ninja

it’s to compete with GoPro. strap a note4 on your head and jump off a cliff.

not all selfies have to suck. maybe i want to get a selfie with the grand canyon in the backdrop….who’s going to take the pic when i’m hiking solo???

    • koopadoop

The ones out in front always have a target on their back.

    • Dave

This site is worse then PA, it has too much bias and DL doesn’t seem care and let it be as they think this WI bring more attention to their site, unreal I know.

      • chris125

If it isn’t moto or nexus (and recently the lg) it is hated.

        • Kevin

That’s because those are the only phones that get it right.

          • PoisonApple31

I have a feeling your opinion would change if you still had to pay $600+ for your “Nexus” experience.

          • Kevin

Will guess who paid $600 for something better than a Nexus experience? This guy ^ at least I get to utilize my storage that I have. Unlike Samsung owners.

          • 213ninja

i’ll settle for my 128GB SD card.

          • Kevin

Settle for it then. Too bad not all apps are compatible with SD card.

          • 213ninja

all mine are, and that’s all i care about, what works for me. i’d recommend you do the same rather than hating for nothing.

          • Kevin

Too bad the world doesn’t revolve around you buddy. What works for you doesn’t work for everybody. Unlike internal storage, It’s not going to have problems like external SD cards.

          • 213ninja

you think me saying people should just worry about what works best for them is selfish? don’t you read good? look, what i said was i’ll do me and you do you and nobody should judge anybody. you don’t like my choice in phone, cool, go buy something else and stop hating. that’s pretty much the central theme here….

i’ve owned 20+ phones and 20+ SD cards and have never had a failure or any issue at all for that matter. i’m not saying failures don’t occur, but SD works for me. it’s not settling, it’s an awesome choice i made.

        • LivinInThe_808

Sadly true. I guess I’m not the only that sees it, too.

      • cizzlen

Gotta love when DL’s bias butthurt instantly shows in the title.

    • 213ninja

      agree. big time.

  • hyperbeatser

I’d rather have too many options that too few…. *cough*Moto X*cough*

    • JoshGroff

And yet stock/moto users can install apps to add features they want. I’d honestly prefer if the entire OS was modular and configurable on first boot. (Which is why I always look for roms that have aroma customization on flash) Yet on my nexus, I just add things as I want them.

      • PoisonApple31

This is the main reason I do not like stock Android – why add all these apps when the features are good enough to be thrown into the OS?

        • Kevin

Not everyone wants a bloated phone. So why not give consumers the choice to bloat there phone instead of OEMs bloating it for them? Hmm

          • PoisonApple31

So active display and touchless control make the Moto X bloated?

          • 213ninja

by their logic, YES. don’t let them tell you otherwise.

          • cizzlen

Aren’t you bloating the phone by installing more apps and features that should typically come with it?

          • Kevin

Nope. Downloading apps is a user’s choice. Having preinstalled apps that can’t be removed is bloatware.

      • Camera_Tags

I’ve owned plenty of motos and no 3rd party app can fix those cameras.

        • JoshGroff

So true :/ same with nexuses. I was able to take some pretty good photos with my X/N5 in perfect lighting though, so there’s definitely been an improvement over the years. Sample shot taken with my N5 because ‘Murica.

    • Kevin

You mean too many gimmicks. *cough* Touchjiz owners *cough*

    • 213ninja

      moto X has a camera???

  • duke69111

I like having the options. I don’t have to use them if I don’t want to, but they are there. I was disappointed that LG removed the majority from the G3.

    • Bryan Mills

      Take that back!

      • LivinInThe_808

Hah! How’s it feel to be on the other end of the stick. The G3 is a great phone but he’s right on how the took out some features

        • Kevin

Less bloat is better. Another reason why I wouldn’t consider an LG phone until they go stock.

          • PoisonApple31

My G3 has way less bloat than my Note 3. Samsung had about 3x their own apps as LG does.

          • LivinInThe_808

Yup. I think Samsung and LG are the two that usually carry the most. If LG can tone it down with the bloat and their skin and continue pumping out top of the line hardware, then I’d be there too to switch over

    • koopadoop

You could always use other apps that add to the camera. I kind of wish Android was like OEM Windows where everyone can just put whatever they want on it but have the OS start as JUST the OS.

But most manufacturers know that most people won’t be downloaded their branded apps on purpose (third party apps usually are of better quality and what not).

    • PoisonApple31

Yeah taking out the call rejection list feature on the G3 was crappy on Verizon, but it’ll probably come back in a software update. Didn’t that happen to the Galaxy S4?

  • Mike

16 x 9 as the top resolution is cool! Not sure how often I would snap shots in 16MP, but when I do it will be in best resolution to view on a tv or monitor. Now if they just include OIS I’ll be happy with the camera on the Note 4.

    • Banglaz Bless

      Ois will be there.

  • JSo

More features that no one will use.

  • BillySuede

not sure how that’s bloat instead of simply more camera options…

    • Tony Byatt

      I agree…

    • Bryan Mills

Useless items that add no value = bloat.

If they want to add this crap and their kids crap, make it available on the play store.

      • BillySuede

to you, they add no value. you don’t speak for anyone else plus your irrational samsung hatred is well-established so you’ll understand if i take your post with a grain of salt.

        • Bryan Mills

I’d gurantee 85%+ people on a poll would answer they don’t use them.

          • BillySuede

because we all know that a poll on droid-life even remotely resembles a true cross-section of phone users….

          • Bryan Mills

Let’s ask the millions of dumb consumers. Theyd be like “uhhh i just open the camera and hit the button”

          • BillySuede

mmhmm…just say you wouldn’t personally use it and leave it at that. you need ‘dumb’ customers in order to make it worth the while of a manufacturer to make, promote and sell the phone including motorola, htc, one plus, etc…

          • Bryan Mills

            Whatever floats ya boat buddy

          • The Narrator

Looks like way more people agree with Billy than us. Let’s fire up the other aliases so that our upvotes look higher!!

          • Dave

DL polls aren’t accurate, so no it will not be a good thing. They always try to push samsung down,

          • Bryan Mills

Oh they pushed your mommy down? Boo hoo

          • The Narrator

Remember when Mom got pushed down from the bloat on her Samsung phone?? After that we all got flip phones and have been bloat free!!!!!!

          • koopadoop

so 85% of Samsung Galaxy owners would say no, that means 15% of them (which is what? Over 1 million people?) use it? Pretty good market size.

          • teebone

You wanna bet?? The so called gimmicks that people claim they won’t use use quite a few of them. I use just about the majority of the added features on the S4 and now my S5. If I can use my phone without smearing my screen I’m golden lol

          • 213ninja

            on a droid-life poll? i’d guarantee five 9’s….

          • Justin Kos

1st day with my note 3 I played around with the camera. Cool stuff, I mostly used burst shot and made animated GIFs of my dog. Dont use any of the other features but there cool to have. Some of the filters were alright… to take pictures of my dog.

        • jarredsutherland

So I take it you enjoy using things like Media Hub, Music Hub and the like? If so, you would be the first person I’ve ever heard of who uses it. Not just techie people, but regular users in general.

          • BillySuede

i don’t use them but how does that immediately make the camera app features bloatware? you guys are expanding the definition of ‘bloatware’ to the point where all sense is out the window

          • Kevin

Things that are preinstalled and unable to uninstall is bloatware. Hard for you to understand?

          • BillySuede

            from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat

‘Software bloat is a process whereby successive versions of a computer program become perceptibly slower, use more memory/diskspace or processing power, or have higher hardware requirements than the previous version whilst making only dubious user-perceptible improvements. The term is not applied consistently; it is often used as a pejorative by end users to describe undesired user interface changes even if those changes had little or no effect on the hardware requirements. In long-lived software, perceived bloat can occur from the software servicing a large, diverse marketplace with many differing requirements. Most end users will feel they only need some limited subset of the available functions and will regard the others as unnecessary bloat, even if people with different requirements do use them.’

oh i think i understand it pretty well. pretty much anything can then be considered bloat unless it’s a nexus. do you understand?

          • Kevin

Oh look, you had to go dig a Wikipedia article. What’s your point? Samsung is bloatware. Whatever YOU consider bloatware is bloatware. But Samsung is always going to be bloatware unless they throw in useful features like Motorola does.

          • BillySuede

i’m throwing your bs back at you. you’re the one making declarative statements that are easy to refute.

          • Blue Sun

You honestly believe that Touchwiz is less laggy with each new version? The same thing happened to ICQ in the late 90’s. They just kept cramming more “features” into the app to the point that it describes your above quote. There is something to be said about simplicity. Especially when it is effective.

          • Justin Kos

            Congress prb edited that one

          • imlip

that’s the definition of bloatware buddy. things that are not needed in a phone/app is BLOAT.

Adding a million features to a phone doesn’t make it better. knowing the key features people will use and making those better creates a simple and better experience.

Instead of the system providing a million options, how about the system is smart enough to set the options for you.

And to add to my point, do you know how much free space is available on samsung devices?

          • BillySuede

so you want the phone to know what you want? please elaborate because i’m hoping that’s not what you mean to say on its face.

        • Rodeojones000

There is nothing irrational about his Samsung hatred. It’s well deserved.

          • BillySuede

there’s nothing rational about hating a phone oem. try harder.

      • Dave

DL needs to have this guy banned, he is constantly trolling on every samsung post here, when will DL wake up and bane this guy,?

        • koopadoop

Tim likes him, they like to say jank and lol on Samsung articles (I remember when Diane Sawyer did this too… how she got to the top of journalism!)

          • Bryan Mills

            Tim probably doesn’t like me.

          • koopadoop

Don’t sell yourself short, his narrative (puns! ;-)) has sounded like yours lately.

          • Kevin

            I don’t think anybody does. :)

          • The Narrator

            Well there’s a surprise bro!

        • Bryan Mills

Why did you have to bring Tom Hardy into this?

        • teebone

Hey there is nothing wrong with poking fun, I do it too so ban me, go ahead, make my dad lol

      • kevin

I actually use a few of the Samsung camera features quite often on my note3..the front/rear camera is quite handy, the animated gif is fun, and a few others. I’d like the ability to have them as uninstallable apps though

      • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

Very useful in the world of social media.

        • Bryan Mills

Uh huh that’s why the HTC First was a best seller, right?

          • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

Best seller but losing money hand over fist. Yea I don’t see the credit in that comment. When HTC gets out of the black you can proudly make that claim. Until then no, just no

      • Banglaz Bless

I’m wondering why do you care? Buy something you find not bloated.

      • Guest

You are an ignorant idiot, you don’t understand why Samsung is number 1 Android smart phone vendor, they provide what customers want, big & bright screens, memory expansion, removable battery, reasonable phone wieght, great camera etc.. No other phone in the market has all these features.

        • Blue Sun

          Richard? Is that you?

          • PoisonApple31

Guest missed the punch line: “Period.”

        • Mark Mann

          Marketing

      • Kayungjoo

By your logic you are DL bloat.

      • el oso borracho

The hundreds of popular camera apps on the play store disagree with you. People love taking pics and they love features to facilitate doing so in creative ways. Is photo sphere in the google camera bloat? How about the variable depth of field? Aviary? Pro HDR Camera? Snapseed? Camera Zoom FX? Vignette? Perfectly Clear? All just no value bloat? Gimme a break guy. You’re being ridiculous.

      • The Narrator

So Bryan, all of your useless comments in the DL forums are bloat? That’s what mom’s saying anyway. Don’t worry bro, even though everyone thinks your comments are dumb, I’ve got your back.

    • koopadoop

      You must be new here.

Basically… Samsung software = bloatware (no matter if it is useful or not), HTC, LG, Sony software = great software utilities (same note on use), and Moto software = “Oh my god this is the greatest thing ever I can’t believe you would own anything else, you must be a sheep who falls for marketing if you bought something else!” (again, same note on use)

      • BillySuede

nah. been here for a while though i lurk more than anything so i know who the trolls are. everyone loves the underdog and hates the top one. i get that but when the arguments become so ludicrous that we’re down to bitching about added functionality to a camera app, you realize the plot is lost.

        • Kevin

I didn’t see nobody ever hate the the Droid or the HTC Evo. Get your facts straight.

          • BillySuede

so because you didn’t see it, it didn’t happen? notice i never specified a phone in particular but yet you’re telling me to get my facts straight…

thank you for proving my point.

          • Kevin

If you’re trying to say that everyone in the world agrees with something and on one thing well thanks captain.

          • BillySuede

            yup. that’s exactly what i said… /s

          • koopadoop

Droid and Evo weren’t the top dog, more children had iPhones on the 1 network that had them than Android had sales. If Apple was still dominating Android, perhaps there would be more love for Samsung. It is still the only true hope for Android success right now, but people won’t see that until they leave for Tizen.

          • Kevin

Um… I was talking about Androids.

          • koopadoop

That doesn’t matter, they weren’t the top phones overall like Samsung is now. Android was a baby and everyone loved anything Android and wanted the OS to succeed. Now that Samsung has spearheaded Android success you take them for granted and blame them for things every other manufacturer does.

          • Kevin

“blame them for things every other manufacturer does.”

At least other OEMs put in things that are actually useful and not gimmicks.

        • Mark Mann

You say you been here for awhile and know who the trolls are, yet to feed them

          • imlip

            b/c he’s a troll too.

          • BillySuede

            yup. that’s it….

anyone who disagrees with you is a troll. got it.

    • Kevin

Tell that to the Touchjiz owners that only have about 4 gigs left of storage.

      • BillySuede

oh you mean like me who has 20? exaggerating doesn’t prove your point.

        • Kevin

          Sure you do.

          • BillySuede

i’m not the one calling touchwiz ‘touchjiz’ and please tell me about how many of those owners have only 4 gigs left of storage.

i could post a screenshot but then you’d be the bright one claiming i doctored it or intentionally deleted apps to prove you wrong so i don’t think this little dance is necessary, do you?

          • Kevin

If you’re happy with an ugly phone from the inside and out. Then whatever tickles your pickle buddy.

          • koopadoop

Did Samsung steal your girlfriend or something?

          • Kevin

            Did Samsh*t steal your soul?

          • BillySuede

            mmhmmm…

          • Kevin

            mmmmhmmmmmmmmm…

  • http://www.twitter.com/cltnwd Colton

    Ellen Degeneres approves.

  • Bryan Mills

Wait, Wide angle selfie? So we’ll see a bigger obvious selfie at next years Oscars. Got it.

    https://static-secure.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2014/3/7/1394213921621/Oscars-selfie-009.jpg

  • Johnny Steele

    3 “selfie” modes? Really?

    • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

Women take a lot of selfies. I don’t recommend men ever taking them though.

      • http://www.techreviewshop.com/ JP

So women are the new samsung target audience not the neckbeard tech enthusiasts? Grab the pitchforks!

        • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

No I was making a joke about women and selfies. Being serious these camera options seemed to be aimed at the people that are really into social media, which would be most of the world. If you use social media and/or take a lot of pics these features will be very useful

          • JSo

Yeah, take a picture, upload and share, then let it sit on Facebook or whatever and never look at it again. lol

          • koopadoop

Don’t worry, the NSA has looked at it a bunch and put it in its facial recognition DB

          • https://www.heartbleedbug.com/ Intellectua1

Yep that’s what they do. But I’m sure most people go thru their pics every once and awhile

  • Bryan Mills

Don’t worry, there will be a commercial for each feature with an added bit of Apple bashing.

    • http://www.techreviewshop.com/ JP

Taking a wide selfie with a apple wallhuggers in the background campaign confirmed.

  • Eric R.

Anyway to know if it has OIS?

    • Bryan Mills

The S5 doesn’t so who knows.

    • UpToDateTech

They left it out, Wonder why – According to our sources, Samsung is equipping the Galaxy Note 4 with a 16-megapixel Sony IMX240 camera sensor on the back with optical image stabilization (OIS)
