Mediafire for Android Receives Major Update – Auto Backups of Photos and Videos, Instant Sharing, New UI

mediafire logo

Mediafire, an independent cloud storage service with over 37 million users, introduced a brand new Android app today with a couple of really nice features.

First off, the app has a new “native interface,” with smoother scrolling, browsing and sharing. The app now has an automatic backup setting for photos and videos as well, bringing it nicely in line with Dropbox (Why doesn’t Box have this yet?). Finally, the new app has enhanced streaming support for your music and video collections, along with instant file sharing through email, SMS, or chat apps.

The update is live now, so go grab it.

200mb file size upload limit on free is just too low… even for free.

In reference to the “automatic backup setting for photos (Why doesn’t Box have this yet?)” comment, yes it should, but since it doesn’t, I was easily able to set up this behaviour with a simple rule on IFTT which I already use anyway. Once you have IFTT installed and set up, simply search for “Android Photo Box” (I prefer to do it from their web site) and you will find dozens of example recipes that you can use.

Anyone use MediaFire? Comments? I see pricing is great: $2.50/month for 1TB. Any catch or usability concerns? I’m currently with Dropbox, $100/year for 100GB, just about to renew. Wouldn’t mind supporting the little guy.

I’ve never had a problem with them, but I haven’t ever purchased storage through them so I don’t know in that area.

        Thanks.

I’ve had the tb for about 6 months and I’ve been happy.
