Android 4.4.4 Update Rolling Out to Moto G Users on Verizon

Lucky Moto G users on Verizon received an update to Android 4.4.4 a few days early, but Motorola announced a broader rollout via Twitter today.

Across-the-board enhancements are in tow, including new camera features, an updated dialer UI, and a bundled Motorola Alert application.

Here’s a rundown of what’s included:

  • Accuracy improvements to power profile
  • Stability, framework, and security fixes including update to OpenSSL
  • Added the ability to pause video recording with a convenient pause/resume button on the viewfinder
  • Updated Phone dialer with a new graphical layout and colors to improve consistency and usability
  • New Motorola Alert application sends periodic alerts with your location to your selected contacts. Now available for download from the Google Play Store

Verizon Moto G owners, you should see an update notification sometime today. If not, you can manually update by navigating to Settings > About phone > System updates and selecting “Download.”

What about my Boost Moto G?

Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail

Alright got it Monday. But it messed up my SMS where I couldn’t send any messages. Had to factory reset to fix it.

  • Jeff

I continue to be annoyed with AT&T and still having the Moto X on 4.4.2.

    • Jeremy Wray

T-Mobile’s is the only Moto X that isnt on 4.4.2, and thats only 4.4.3. Though it’s looking like the Verizon version will receive 4.4.4 first.

I’m wondering if the 4.4.4 Battery Life and Cellular Reception issues that plague the Moto X users on the soak test will appear on the Moto G users that update to 4.4.4

    • dragon19104

Source? I’m not questioning – I’m simply interested in reading more about the soak test experiences. Thanks in advance!

      • droidrazredge

Here are the links to the Moto X users testing the 4.4.4 update. Between these two links they should explain what users are going through. The connection/ SIM performance is the main thread.

            You’re welcome :).

When Moto stops doing soak tests I don’t want to hear you whine. I want you to be first in line to admit to being a contributor.

          • droidrazredge

Those are links to the public forums that are searchable via Google or any search engine. If those were private soak test links no one outside of a soak test would be able to view or access them since they are not part of the public forums. I was just contributing because he was interested in seeing what problems people were facing with the Moto X update. Most of the information about the problems people are facing are on all the major tech website with the same direct links to the post.

          • Montrale Hammonds

Yes, they are public, but by you linking to them here you’re spreading it. Contributing to things that aren’t meant to be said in the public even though it shouldn’t have been put into the public forum in the first place. It’s like stumbling on to boat load of torrents and then posting a link to the torrents. Sure you didn’t put it there, but that still gave you no right to share it.

  • Jeffrey Tarman

Wish I would have gotten a dialer update on the Maxx. Nothing changed about that.

  • Josh Kruse

Im quite surprised to hear about bad battery life on Moto X, my Moto X battery is really amazing!

    • Tree

Mine was fine until the 4.4.2 update, not spectacular, but not atrocious as I stated above. And as to my mom’s, I feel like I can rule out it being a batch issue because I got mine 6 months before hers. Giving the reviews for the G3 a month or so to get a feel for how it’s holding up and will likely buy 2 of them, off contract, to get away from this phone.

People talk about Moto build quality being the t!ts, but after a Razr Maxx, 2 X’s, a Droid X…just don’t see it. All of them have had battery issues in some form, the Razr Maxx had to be returned 3 times in the first 14 days as the battery felt like it would melt the backing.

      • MicroNix

Spot on. But build quality here on DL is nothing other than the measure of build materials. If we take build quality by definition on how well the parts are selected and put together, I’ve never owned worse than Motos.

        • Jeremy Wray

Outside of the one that got run over atleast a dozen times, i haven’t been able to kill any of my Moto devices, My Droid 1 and 2 still work and my I’ve dropped my Moto X so many times I dunno how it isn’t destroyed, much less scratch free. Hell the other day it fell out of my pocket went face down onto a gravel driveway and i proceeded to step on it and stomp it into the ground before i realized it fell. Not one scratch on it.

          • MicroNix

My Droid 1 had a headphone jack go wonky after 2 months. Received a brand new one under warranty and then just outside of the 1 year warranty, the digitizer started to lose sensitivity quadrant by quadrant. Then I had a Droid 3 which was the biggest pile of dung I have EVER owned and that includes old Windows Mobile phones. Nothing on that phone worked right and every update did nothing to fix. Hardware began failing on that one too just after warranty beginning with the keyboard.

The ONLY thing that Moto has ever had above the competition was great radio electronics. Beyond that, I’d take a Samsung phone any day over Moto for lasting durability. To me, how long a phone lasts is the measure of quality, not what material the body is built out of.

      • Jonathan Williams

My Droid X was good build wise, but that locked bootloader….

    • Jeff

Same here, both my first and replacement Moto X have easily gotten over a 24 hours of life on a single charge, usually with 20-30% battery left by the time I plug it in.

      • Jeremy Wray

Yeah i get 25-30 hours on a light to medium usage day, though videos just drain my battery like crazy.

When I first got the phone last year I used to get 36-48 hours out of it without an issue.

      • Brian Farrell

I’m huge Moto fan.. I’ve had numerous Moto flip phones and I upgraded from my Razr HD to a Moto X.. Since the 4.4.2 update, my X is seriously lacking battery power.. The Razr HD battery life was awesome. I gave the phone to my aunt and she still only has to charge it every other day, albeit she is light to moderate user.. I take my fully charged Moto X to work with me, turn off WiFi as there is none available and manually close all running apps and put it in my locker.. Sometimes by my lunch break, 4-5 hours later,I am down to 55% battery life and in the 20% range by the time I drove home after a 8-9 hour shift.. I hope this update fixes some of this.. The Moto X is by far my most favorite smartphone I’ve owned (started with LG Vortex, upgraded to HTC Rezound, then the Razr HD, then the Moto X) but the battery pisses me off.. If the Moto X had the Razr HD battery, I’d have not one complaint.

        • Justin Kos

check your wakelocks, something is waking up your device too much

  • Justin Bontrager

    What about my X? /s

    • Tastor Croy

      my question exactly

    • sirmipsalot

Allegedly 4.4.4 for Moto X is killing battery life, so I’ll be interested if the Moto G has the same issue w/ 4.4.4.

      • Tree

I’m super pumped to hear this as my Moto X already has atrocious battery life, as does the one I got for my mom. And that’s after I killed every unnecessary service I could find.

        • MicroNix

This is exactly why I chose the G3 over waiting for the X+1.

        • Chase Chick

If you’re “killing services” that’s your problem. Double the problem if you’re trying to use “task killer.”

        • Justin Kos

Dont do that!! unused ram is wasted ram!! what kills battery life are apps that don’t let the phone ‘deep sleep’ !! check my post above and read through it!!

      • Robzw

No my battery has been good. Have had the update since Monday.

      • nexus

greenify facebook and g+, turn off location services set GPS to battery saving OR device only ( device only works better outdoors) and toggle off the wifi scanning option, cheers

      • Justin Kos

Here is a great post about battery life on XDA, worth the read. I hope it helps, I personally recomend root and installing a wakelock detector app and using greenify to hibernate the apps, I personally used it for Clash of Clans and Facebook, 10% drain in 4-5 hours standby now.

edit, my phone is a nexus 5 stock rooted and xposed.. however the post works for all phones.

In my culture, 444 is very very bad ruck.

      • Diablo81588

        That was in India.

      • I’m using Moto G and I’m facing serious battery drop issue since updating to 4.4.4. When sitting idle my phone just goes from 30% to 24%. (In less than a minute) Strange!
