  • Joseph Tomkins

I’m having a bit of a problem getting this to boot, I’ve reflashed it a good few times now and Terminal is saying it’s successful, I can still access my bootloader and recovery but I’m stuck in the boot animation. I’ve flashed it back to 4.4.4 once already to make sure that was fine and it is, booted in about 2 minutes. The L preview still hasn’t booted and I’ve been waiting for close to 25 minutes on this occasion. Any suggestions?

    • Brian

Mine took about 4 minutes before it finally went.

  • i9

    Go go go!

  • ikesmith8

    my best
friend’s step-sister makes $71 /hr on the laptop . She has been fired from
work for ten months but last month her pay check was $14089 just working on
the laptop for a few hours. check it out

  • True Radiant Free

Anyone think if anyone on XDA or elsewhere will port this to work on the 2012 N7?

  • Flashed it, but it’s too crash-y to be my daily driver for now. Back to KitKat.

  • Tobi De la Cuz

Looks like the easter egg is the same as KitKat

  • Deepak

i ran into a bootloop. anybody can help? did flash-all.bat

  • Reggie Wallace

As a somewhat new nexus 5 owner this is very exciting. Yet, with the instructions I find they are missing small steps that may seem “obvious” to those who do this often. As a first timer is there anyone willing to post a link / video or email to walk me through it. Thanks much.

  • droidfan17

Is this different then side loading an update?

  • David Foggia

Hey guys so im wanting to flash the dev preview soon but i was wondering two things:

    1. do i execute the program which name is “flash-all”, with gears inside screen. Or do i execute the flash-all.sh with a piece of paper inside?

    2. How do i execute it? Would i do fastboot execute flash-all or flash-all.sh (depending on which one you tell me is correct)

    • paticao
      • David Foggia

That’s what I am following except I am not going to go through each one. I want to try to get it down in one shot. I just want to know which one I choose. Although I did read that .sh means its for Mac…..I just want to clarify

  • Stoplight

I’m confused when does this come to the Nexus & (2013)?

  • C-Law

I just don’t like the home button.

  • Dave

Going pretty good so far on Nexus 7 – install Google Now Launcher (if haven’t already) to get transparency.

  • chris125

Cue the “it sucks it broke x App” whiners who forget it is just a preview

  • nosedive94

Can anyone who’s flashed it tell me how stable it seems?

    • jnt

So far pretty stable – but I haven’t done much with it yet… it’s just installing apps from the Play Store and I haven’t noticed anything bad… YET 🙂

      • nosedive94

I’m waiting for people to toy with it for a bit before I flash. My N7 is my daily tablet driver and I don’t want to muck it up. Do you know if there will be OTA updates or if we’ll have to flash each build manually?

        • jnt

My guess is flash manually – but that’s just a guess. Seems like that would be a lot easier in the development life cycle to just release a fresh full image instead of a “patch” to an already buggy system.

  • The Rock

anyone uses Koush’s Helium app to backup/restore apps? Its not working on my Nexus 5 after flashing the images

    • Ian Woloschin

Yup. Something’s changed, I’ve seen a few reports that TitaniumBackup isn’t working either. I know Koush was at I/O so I doubt he’s even had a chance to play with “L” yet, but he might be able to have a fix out today…or never.

  • markgbe

flashed on my N5. It’s so very good looking.

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

    who will price match ebay?

  • SplashMTN

Anyone else think the on screen buttons look childish and ugly?

    • James Briano

      Yes. They are horrible.

  • BeLogical

Where is the new Nexus 10 to install this on?

  • Kyle

is this stable enough for a random non developer Joe schmoe like me to use daily on my nexus 5?

    • kixofmyg0t

      No. It’s not.

      • Kyle

        thank you

  • Brandon Hoffman

Guys start posting dem APK’s Plzzzzzzz

    • JSo

Might not work on KitKat without the new framework. But you can try.

  • OligarchyAmbulance

Does flashing this mean we will get pushed updates to L? Or will we have to flash each new version manually?

    • James Briano

      This is a good question.

    • hkklife

I would assume installing this takes you out of the OTA loop and you’ll have to flash each new build manually until the final binaries are posted. Then you can post it and be “back on track”. Bring back memories of my Bionic and the endless stream of GB and ICS leaks/updates until the thing was finally ready for primetime!

  • C-Law

I’m running it on my N7 right now. Too soon to give any impressions cuz it just booted a few seconds ago but looks sweet! Inital boot took like 5 minutes so don’t be alarmed

  • jonzey231

My poor Nexus 4…I still love you.

  • JBartcaps

So by my calculations, the developer preview is available to download right now, then that must mean Samsung will download it 6 months from now? Yeah I think that’s right!

  • David Foggia

I’m gonna wait for people response to it on the nexus 7. If people say its relatively stable. I’m gonna jump in

  • I’m about to try to Odin this on my GS4, brick it, and then I’ll have an excuse to buy a Nexus 5 and leave Verizon.

    • Hothfox

I hope it fails! Or works? I don’t know.

      • I too have mixed feelings lol!

    • mustbepbs

Why not sell your GS4 and pay your ETF with that?

      • contract is up early next year so I’ll try to stick it out for new Moto or Nexus/Silver phone and possible switch carriers then.

  • coolsilver

SCREW YOU VERIZON (Nexus 7 2013 – LTE)

  • Jackholes

    LTE version shafted yet again.

    Ok, Google.

We get it. No more LTE “nexus” tablets being purchased here. Point made, lesson learned.

    • Hothfox

I’d be of the same mindset, except the only reason I got the Nexus 7 2013 was so that I could put the device on LTE and not on my company’s corporate network, as we have a web filter.

I am still super bitter about the delays of the updates, though. I blame Verizon compatibility because it makes me feel better.

    • nexusplay

      It’s a preview build dude.

      • Derp, Hurr-durr

        No, really dude?

…and what version is razorg officially on now?

  • I need this SDK only?
Or do I need a new one (if there is a newer one) to flash this?

    • C-Law

you just need the factory image, adb, and fastboot. I had WugFresh’s nexus root toolkit and both those files are in the wugfresh/data folder so I just moved all the files from the unzipped factory image into the wugfresh/data folder, opened a command prompt there, and did adb reboot bootloader, then double clicked on the flashall file that I copied out of the factory image folder into the wugfresh data folder. It did the rest

  • Hothfox

I super hope they put up a build for the Nexus 7 2013 LTE. But I am also very doubtful they will, considering it’s not even on 4.4.4 yet.

  • Guy Pierce

I can’t wait for a Paranoid version for my G2!

  • andrew8806

The download is horribly slow. 🙁

    • JSo

Probably because everyone is trying to download at the same time.

    • Michael

took less than 30 secs for me.

  • JSo

I still have 5 hours until I am home to flash this. This sucks. lol

    • Shane Redman

      • JSo

Thanks to Google Remote Desktop however, the files are downloaded and ready to flash when I get home. 🙂

    • Carlos Lopez

Hey at least you don’t have to deal with the dilemma of whether or not buying a nexus 5 just to play with Android L

  • Cael

I officially hate the new NAV buttons.

    • Guy Pierce

Relax sir! They are virtual/on screen just root, ROM and change them.

    • Jonathan Bunch

      I love them!

    • Guest

I don’t understand the hate, they are just simple shapes, and yeah yeah “PlayStation”, so what?

      • Oh yeah, that’s helpful!

So that middle one in that picture is the home button then?

      • j

old were basically perfect. new lack creativity; they’re bland, been done, old news.

    • adbFreedom

Yea.. They will be swapped out immediately

    • Daeshaun Griffiths

can somebody explain the in app back buttons? please.
it’s the only thing that screams ios to me and can’t figure out if they are getting rid of the nav bar or not.

      • Genetic_Bloom

The nav bar back button has always been there. It used to just be a carrot next to the app icon, not it’s more prominent, but has the same functionality I would assume.

        • Daeshaun Griffiths

thank you. It was always the little carrot.

      • ddpacino

You don’t see back buttons/arrows in your apps now????

    • chris125

Look like the old buttons moto used to use on their old blur devices. So ugly

    • C-Law

I just don’t like the home button

    • BigTimmay

I think that’s just part of the dev preview build(s).

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

WHY doesn’t the NAV buttons get put to the right side when you flip the tablet? WHy wouldn’t it just be kept by your thumbs within reach at all times? . . . Random Gripe

    • Collin Chapin

I actually like it. When I hold a device like that my right hand is usually holding along the right edge of the device which is now where the controls are.

  • john jeevinth

Any idea if this will hit nexus 4 ??

  • faganm24

Has it been confirmed that the 2012 Nexus 7 will not get this preview?

    • Franklin Ramsey

Not confirmed, but I doubt the 2012 Nexus 7 will get Android L

  • ecorea

These are the times when I wish I didn’t have a locked up Verizon Moto X on 4.4.2…

    • Jordan Webb

Yeah, but luckily this is pretty rare. The rest of the time, we’re livin’ it up!

    • Hothfox

Why would Google release the developer preview for anything but the Nexus line anyway?

      • ecorea

I meant that I can hardly root my phone (tethered only), let alone flash a rom. Many phones will get the L preview ported to their devices. There’s no telling when I will get to try it myself. Luckily the Moto X is an amazing phone even when it’s stock.

        Edit: And being on Verizon I can’t buy a Nexus 5 🙁

        • Hothfox

Ah, okay, I get it now that you explained your frustration.

I got the Moto X because it had a lot of neat features, and it was the closest thing to a Nexus on Verizon. Now that AOSP is including many of the features of the Moto X by default (always on “OK, Google”, lockscreen notifications, etc.) I am just waiting on better AT&T coverage in the areas I frequent. I did have a Nexus 5 on an AT&T GoPhone plan, but I sold it because AT&T didn’t have good (any) coverage at my parent’s house, even though Verizon has LTE.

Point is, I wish I had my Nexus 5 still, and would totally be downloading the preview.

    • Molly Housel

any word on an update for us?

    • romma

You cannot use towelroot and free your phone?

      • Nikuliai

Didn’t work on mine (not verizon tho)

    • AdrijaHodkinsonnyc

      before I saw the receipt four $9150 , I be certain that…my… mom in-law
could actualie erning money parttime from there labtop. . there friends
cousin started doing this 4 only about sixteen months and at present cleard
the depts on there appartment and bourt a great new Mazda . go

    • BeverlyHeathfieldmvb

. if you think Charlotte `s rep0rt is really cool… last week I got a new
      BMW from making $8205 this past 5 weeks and-over, 10/k this past-munth .
with-out any question its the most rewarding Ive had . I actually started
eight months/ago and pretty much immediately was bringing home minimum $83…
p/h . check this site out

    • SherriCloseoue

as Craig said I am dazzled that a single mom can earn $7159 in four weeks on
the computer . go to this website

      try this site

  • Kyle

  • CaptainHowdy13

To flash or not to flash, that is the question.

    • Jarred Sutherland

If you do .. and get stuck at the boot animation .. i had issues powering off to reflash and wipe cache, issues that prevented me from doing that because the phone would power back on instantly. Then it finally booted. Whew.

      • Joseph Tomkins

Jarred, how long roughly did it take for it to boot for you? I’ve reflashed a few times now, still not got it past the boot screen. Did wiping cache separately fix this or did it sort itself out?

        • Shrawan

same here. how long do you think it will take? getting pretty worried. :/

          • Joseph Tomkins

I went back into terminal and used the fastboot flash boot boot.IMG etc commands to flash my partitions separately, turned back on and it booted within twenty seconds 🙂

  • Its got a fancy new boot animation… booting up n7 for first time with L preview

    • grumpyfuzz

once you have it set up, can you tell us what it says for the build number? 5.0, 4.5, etc.

      • LPV79

        • grumpyfuzz

          Android version?

          • Marikel

It doesn’t show an Android version. It just says L.

          • grumpyfuzz

wow, guess google is waiting until the fall to unveil that. thanks.

        • OligarchyAmbulance

          Lemon Pie Version 79?

          • Cael

          • OligarchyAmbulance

Well what would you guess it stands for? It’s an L name, and the rumors forever have been Lemon Meringue Pie. Maybe Lollipop?

          • ddpacino

That just doesn’t even sound right without “meringue”.

          • BigTimmay

            or LolliPop v79

        • Taylor Abrahamson

          ‘L’ PreView build 79

      • ReturnOfTheMack

I’ve seen a screenshot of the settings menu on a Nexus 5, the version is just listed as “L”.

    • looks like it restores your wifi connections before restoring all your apps, thats a nice change, usually it would start restoring apps then restore the wifi and it would break all the downloads

    • The notification bar is wierd, its just one dropdown for everything… the interface as a whole is pretty slick

      • Guy Pierce

Do some screen recordings and either upload here yourself or give it to DL so they can make a post.

        • Yeah I’m at work, so I can’t really do that at this time, DL just posted a preview

          • Guy Pierce

Yea I saw that right after my reply to you. LOL!

    • And also tell if its stable enough for every day usage on my primary phone?

    • There is no clear all notifications button anymore :/

      • Shane Redman

        boooooooooooo! Put it back google!

      • jnt

did your first boot take forever, right after flashing the images?

        • yes, at least 5-10 minutes

          • OligarchyAmbulance

And here I thought I managed a bootloop. I guess I’ll wait a little longer.

          • grumpyfuzz

I’m guessing the first boot is probably longer because art is default.

          • OligarchyAmbulance

True. It did finally boot up for me.

          • ddpacino

Isn’t that due to the final ART recompiling everything? OR I could be wrong…

      • Suicide_Note

It is a developer build, after all. Still plenty of time for that to be (hopefully) added back in.

    • Rudro De

Im stuck in a bootloop! D:

  • JimmyHACK

  • Shawn Lasky

    Ooooooo eeeeeeee!!!
