Motorola Updates Moto Devices With Boot Animation to Celebrate World Cup

Featured Video Play Icon

Motorola is updating the boot animation on its Moto devices this week – including the Moto X – to a World Cup theme. Since we have a solid month of soccer to celebrate, watch, and become temporary fans of (I kid, I kid), why not?

The update will come through a Motorola Boot Services update, so be on the lookout.

Wish I could get this for the Maxx

  • Cesar

    Yay, new boot animation!

  • Snowbo13

Got it this morning and rebooted my phone. Great start up animation!

  • Has anyone make a flashable for this yet?

  • Raven65

I think it’s cool that Moto does this for us, but since Android & the Moto X are so stable now, I very rarely ever see the boot animation. I have to intentionally reboot the phone to see it. Now, if they’d done this back when I had my Motorola Droid X2, I would have seen it several times a day – whether I wanted to or not! LOL!

  • Viet Hoang-Tran

wow… I just saw the ugly verizon logo….

so uninstalled the moto boot services update…. ah good ol’ bootscreen

  • Corey Smith

Wish they would do this on their moto maxx and moto ultra as well.

    • Jason B

They can’t because they’re technically DROID branded phones. So you get the DROID eye, and not the global Moto boot animation.

  • Cael

I wish they’d do Google search type of boots… Instead of seasonal

  • Gideon Waxfarb

Not sure what a ‘boot services update’ is, but if this came in the form of a normal update that I got prompted to install, and was the only thing they added, I’d be highly annoyed, esp if I had to reboot the phone.

    • needa

its updated through the play store. you only reboot if you want to see it.

  • Gr8Ray

Thanks for the heads up, now I know not to install the update.

  • Trevor

I’m not a big soccer fan at all, but it’s still pretty cool.

  • TC Infantino

Well, nuts. This apparently is only for the Moto X, G, and E. I wish this worked for all the latest Moto devices. It’s always cool to have new and different boot animations.

  • sonicyoof

Was my comment censored or something?

  • paul_cus

I’ve been watching the World Cup since 1994. I like it, but you couldn’t pay me to watch soccer at any other time.

  • crazed_z06

    Gay

    • Trevor

Come on dude, aren’t we past using that word as an insult?

  • Rodeojones000

    Soccer is terrible.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

      thanks for sharing.

  • TopXKiller

    I hate soccer

    • El_Big_CHRIS

      cool guy

    • chansterrrr

I don’t understand how people can hate a sport. Maybe uninterested but hate is pretty strong.

  • Carlton Crasher

what if they found another way to lock some bootloaders xD “Boot Animation Update”

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Pretty cool. Not sure why they’re putting this kind of effort into boot screens…but whatevs

    • WickedToby741

It’s the little things to help delight current customers and hopefully bring them back. It’s that nice little subtle reminder to customers that they haven’t been forgotten. It’s such a small investment that they hope will bring them large returns in the form of greater customer loyalty.

      • clobberedchina

” It’s that nice little subtle reminder to customers that they haven’t been forgotten.”

        That’s an excellent answer.

    • Raven

On one hand it is a nice little touch and cool that they are still doing stuff like this for the Moto X. On the other hand it is rather pointless. The Moto X is the most stable phone I have ever owned and I have had uptimes of well over a month on it so I rarely ever see the boot screen. The last time I had to reboot was when I installed an Xposed module.

I do, however, wish that if they are going to go through the effort of creating them that they would let us choose which one we wanted. I completely missed the previous sci-fi themed one and I would like to switch back to it.

  • James

If you like soccer/football, this is great. If you don’t like soccer/football, this is still great. Moto’s support of recent devices remains impressive.

    Disabling auto-update now…

    • Kevin

Auto update is disabled by default.

      • Jeff C

        Well…no shat Sherlock.

    • Miguel Angel Portela

It’s…interesting but still pretty annoying. I wonder if Motorola has a boot screen theme market in the works

  • Carlos Lopez

I’ll pass, don’t really care much for sports, much less the world cup

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

You don’t care for…….sports? Are you human?

      • Carlos Lopez

Well I like playing them I just don’t care to watch them haha, I probably should have clarified that xD

    • regkilla
