Deal: 32GB Moto X Will be $100 off June 4 and 5 From Motorola

moto x deal

Moments ago, we told you about a really good deal on an unlocked AT&T Moto X with 16GB of storage that could be had for $275 through eBay. That’s still a really good deal. But, if you wait until tomorrow, Motorola will sell you a 32GB version of the Moto X, likely from any carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and unlocked for T-Mobile), for $100 off.

The 32GB Moto X currently runs $449 (from the major carriers), so you could pick one up June 4 or 5, directly from Motorola, for $349. Not bad.

I use the Moto X with Republic Wireless and it’s a good phone for a decent price at $299. The price is a lot better than elsewhere for over $500. Republic also has access to Sprint’s roaming partners so the coverage is much better than other MVNOs from Sprint. All in all, great service at an awesome price. Designed my phone, at check-out kept receiving message “Some items in your cart a no longer available.” Contacted Motorola via chat, was 32nd in queue. When my turn came, my request for chat was cancelled and I was dropped. I have emailed them, waiting for an answer. By looking around online, it looks like Motorola is not new to horribly organized, botched sale events.

Tried designing a 32GB no contract GSM one, and all it allows is 16GB saying that “The 32 GB option is not available on T-Mobile.”

  • Gautham Ramachandran

How much will the unlocked version be?

  • Jason Brown

can this be combined with the .edu email address discount?

    • Suman Gandham

Did you try this dude? If it stacks, I will insta-buy o_O

      • Jason Brown

i tried using the coupon and it gave me “please enter a valid promo code error.”

Yeah same thing happened with me :(

For a moment, I thought a 32gb version will be selling for $100.

  • guest1000

So my family is looking to upgrade from their old phones (flip phones), is this a better deal than getting a phone subsidized through Verizon? Also does anyone know if them upgrading will affect my current unlimited data plan?

    • Hothfox

Just from my experiences, do I state the following.

Better deal is relative to your plans for the future. Do you see yourself jumping ship from Verizon anytime soon? If yes, the no-contract deal here is the better deal. If you’re sticking around Verizon for at least two years, go ahead and upgrade to get the subsidized pricing (don’t go for the Edge plans, though!). If you sign up for a subsidized phone, and leave before the contract is up, you’ll be out the ETF. They do give a minor discount on your monthly plan now if you “BYOD”, to account for the fact that the whole point of subsidized phones and their plans is that you wind up paying for the phone anyway through the higher plan fees. The discount you get from BYOD reflects the fact that you paid in full for your device, and they have nothing to subsidize.

I really don’t know about unlimited anymore. Back when I still had unlimited, dad upgraded some other lines on our account to new phones, and put us on the share plan because they told him he had to. Truth is, he didn’t have to, he got pushed into it. Turns out it saved him money, so I can’t complain. I am not sure these days how it all works. I think they might have to go onto a Share plan, and you’ll just kind of be floating out on your own plan. Again, not 100% on that.

      • guest1000

Thanks for the response. I am currently using a Verizon Moto X that I bought outright around Black Friday and I plan on keeping Verizon until they take away my unlimited data. So my main concerns now are:
        1. Will they (family with flip phones) save money buying the phone out right instead of subsidizing?
        2. Will them upgrading affect my data plan?

I had been testing out T-Mobile for a bit and service was almost exactly the same as Verizon other than being in the middle of a building. However I have been doing more traveling through areas that have worse coverage on T-Mobile so I would like to keep Verizon if possible.

        • AngryBadger

Of course double check this with Verizon phone support: I assume you are the only unlimited data plan line? From my understanding, when the others upgrade their phones, they will have to be the share everything plan since they can not do unlimited data like you. This will create a separate set of charges for them (unlimited data vs share everything have different sets of access charges).

You can only lose unlimited data if you use your line’s upgrade. So as long as everyone else uses *their own upgrades on their own lines* your unlimited data will be fine.

Heck, you could even use one person’s upgrade and then switch it to your line if you felt so inclined (but then they lose the upgrade, but you could give them the moto x [i assume verizon would require them to use share everything though])

Some options you should weigh is this…

would all those share everything access charges bring the price of your total plan down or up?

How does it compare to moving all your family to T-Mobile and you stay Verizon? (you can drop lines at no fear of losing UNLdata on your line)

Also, as far as subsidized pricing goes… IIRC Verizon still puts that pricing into the plan regardless of if you used sub-pricing or full retail. It could have changed though.

          Good luck.

  • AngryBadger

Well, I learned my lesson… if I ever do get a phone with no option for SDcard: 32GB>=. So nice to see a deal on those sizes. I like my phone but 16GB was not a great choice (for me anyways).

  • Gabriq IVG

Save because Moto X+1 is coming.

  • http://brgulker.wordpress.com/ brgulker

I’m not sure how the Moto X fans (don’t say that critically) deal with the relatively slow processor. I guess if you’re on Verizon and want stock Android, I get it… but if you’re on GSM, why choose the Moto X over something with more power?

I know it’s not about clock speed – I’ve actually used the Moto X, and I find it just way too clunky.

(everything else about the hardware I love, even the 720p screen, which is more than enough for a screen that small)

    • kishan

For $350, Nexus 5 is the way to go.

      • nosedive94

If only it worked on Verizon my friend. If only…

    • Alec

It’s not slow at all, it works absolutely fine. No, it’s not the fastest phone on the market, but there’s no dip in performance whenever I use it.

    • Dave

Exactly….I brought mine back after 5 days. Going from a Note 2 even running TWiz to the X didn’t work for me. Clunky load speed and much poorer (for what I was used to) battery life. Nice device, but I would have to see some pretty impressive hardware to go back also.

    • Trevor

I have the X and the Nexus 5, and I’ve pretty much gone back to the Nexus 5 full time and this is part of the reason why. Don’t get me wrong, this phone usually runs nearly equally fast as my Nexus 5 for whatever I’m doing, but when I first start up the phone (and at least a couple minutes after) or if I’m multitasking (such as installing/updating apps from app store whilst using phone), the X is definitely slower than the Nexus. I assume that’s a product of the older-school processor. Other than that though, the X really flies, especially considering its innards. Can’t wait to see what Motorola has in store with the X+1.

  • Terrance Steiner

Why do you tempt me so…must hold out for X+1

  • ja7lewis

Does this phone still get those cracks next to the sim tray?

  • SewWhat

You guys know if Republic’s Moto Maker version will be getting this same love?

    • steeeeevo

If you go through republic’s site (5dollarphone.com) then you can get access to the phone at 299.99

  • OrangeAttack

FML I just bought my Moto X yesterday after waiting more than a year. #BadLuckBrian

    • Jack

After you receive your phone call, an request a refund for the difference, they should honor it.

      • OrangeAttack

        Really? Thanks for the tip!

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

one day i’ll trade the g2 for a dev edition. I need it as a landmark device. put it right next to my favs.

    • Terrance Steiner

      All hail the OG Droid!

    • Orion

      Wow the OG Droid.

  • mcdonsco

Hey Kellen, how do the wood backs hold up? Want to get walnut but worried it would be a scratch / dent magnet and dont want to pay an extra $25 for it just to cover it up with a case.

    Thanks!

    • Kyleinstyle

I would like to know this as well.

      • DJ SPY

I have a teak back. Got it when they launched it and it still looks like new.

    • RoboCop

Ive had a bamboo back since day 1…still looks great and is wearing well, although it runs hot more than my normal Moto X did

    • michael arazan

I’d like to know how they hold up to moisture or getting wet

  • billiebob808

Kellen’s correct… the 32GB *starts* at $399, but that’s only for Republic Wireless. All of the other major carriers are priced at $449.

    • ja7lewis

      This is correct.

      • mcdonsco

        Nope

        • ja7lewis

Yup, just looked again. $399 was only for Republic Wireless. :(

          • mcdonsco

            WTF…just checked again…$449…WTF?

          • ja7lewis

That’s weird, mine still shows $449 for the 32gb.

          • Me

Is that w/ tax or something? I just customized a 32 GB walnut Moto X and it came up as 424.99 :/

          • mcdonsco

Seems to be once you really hit checkout….entering cc Info etc.

    • mcdonsco

Not correct…just motomakered a Verizon 32gb…$399…didn’t buy of course; just checking.

      • billiebob808

How odd… it’s still showing up as $449 for me. I do hope that I’m wrong when the deal kicks in though!

        • mcdonsco

No…it was showing $399 for me before (like THREE TIMES before)…just did it again as others were saying it was wrong and now it shows $449…not sure how/why…but, whatever.

Was tempted to eBay off the one I just bought on Swappa (new in box, moto maker, 16gb matte black back, black front, silver accents: $275) and get a walnut 32gb…figured it was worth $50 more, but now $100…meh, I’ll keep the one I have coming. Its temp only anyway as I await the moto x+1 release as well as what else may come out this summer (though I doubt much aside from variations of the existing flagships already out now or announced).

  • M3D1T8R

Just confirmed, as I thought, it is $399.99 now (not $350). So it will be $300 for the sale. Darn tempting. Wonder if it includes the Dev Edition? But this likely means the new Moto X details will be coming soon. I’ll probably keep waiting.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Kellen the 32GB is $399. This deal would put it down to $299.

    • Terrance Steiner

Only for Republic Wireless. All other providers phones are $449 for 32GB.

  • Orion

Enough with these deals already. Let’s get the new moto lineup!

    • Dave

But you can get a factory refurbished Droid X for only $49. I mean….that’s cheap. LoL

      • Silverlock

How can you do that? I’d really like to be able to pick one up at that price!

    • andre08

They just released the moto x in August. So you have a few more months. I’m disappointed with the x personally

    • Hothfox

It would be silly to expect anything before August/September. Moto has been a lot more consistent with their product refresh cycles lately (specifically referencing the Droid line).

      • Orion

Ok Sherlock…but it would be nice to hear some news or rumors on what’s coming up. Thanks for your two pennies though.

        • Hothfox

You’re welcome. Don’t spend it all in once place.

        • michael arazan

801 processor 5 inch screen 1080 2 gb ram, updated software

  • mcdonsco

Isn’t the 32gb $399, not $449? Making it $299 with the $100 off? Trying to verify on motomaker, but it isn’t coming up right now.

    • wtd2009

yep, you’e right. 32 gb is $399 before the $100 discount.

    • Terrance Steiner

It is $399 on Republic Wireless (personally I have not heard of these guys). $449 for every other provider’s phone. For the heck of it I ran through a selection. You only see the different prices on the final selection page.

      • bsinc1962

        Unlocked is $399

        • Terrance Steiner

16GB unlocked is $399, 32GB is $349 (unless you are on Republic)

          • Terrance Steiner

I tried to post a print screen of the checkout screen but it did not seem to work.

      • Suman Gandham

Dude, Republic Wireless is legit. Hybird wifi calling for dirt cheap using both Sprint and Verizon towers – you should read up!

      • Taylor LaRue

Moto X on Republic is $299 without MotoMaker and with Moto Maker they offer the same specials that Motorola offers – but what is really exceptional are their service plans – save hundreds annually over what the raping national carriers charge. These guys are great – tehir phones are programmed to use both WiFi and all the cellular you need is included. Love they don’t do funny business in the fine print like some pre-paid carriers that only offer a very low cellular data allotment to get you to buy their phone a la FreedomPop.

  • T4rd

Got a like-new 32GB Moto X off Swappa for $260 a month ago for my mom. Can’t beat that at the moment.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Well you should get a used phone for less.

      • T4rd

Quite the astute observation! Tell that to the other sellers selling their used phones at new prices. Mine was used for a week though and was in perfect/new condition.

        • Hothfox

Seriously. People all over eBay, Craigslist and Swappa don’t seem to understand depreciation. As soon as they take it out of the box, take off the screen film, and turn it on, it is immediately worth less to me than it is to them. Used for one day does not mean that it is brand new in box, so I can’t understand why they expect to get new-in-box prices for it.

It’s like my 2002 Ford Explorer. KBB value is about $2500 last I checked. It is worth FAR more than that to me, but that doesn’t mean anyone is going to pay me what I think it’s worth.

  • Mario

Release the Kraken The New Moto X+1 already :)

    • nosedive94

Seriously. Once they put out the X+1, the price of the X will drop anyway.

      • Me

Which is what I’m waiting for. If the Moto X+1 blows me away, then I’ll gladly spend the extra 150 or so. Otherwise give me a 32 GB for 275-299 and I’ll be a happy camper.

      • michael arazan

You can get almost new/ new X’s on ebay for $250

      • Akash

Moto G’s price didn’t fell down in when Moto X was released.. in India…so I don’t think so there any chance that Moto x price will go down when X2 will release
