Beautiful Icon Styler Lets You Use Custom Icons on Stock Launchers Without Root

Let’s say you own an Android device, yet aren’t thrilled about running a 3rd party launcher, but still want to swap out the icons in your stock launcher for a more customized look. What are your options? I hate to break it to you, but you don’t have many. Beautiful Icon Styler is one option, an option that doesn’t even require root to work.

With Beautiful Icon Styler you can keep your Google Now, BlinkFeed, TouchWiz, and Motorola launchers, but still get that custom look with icons that other launchers provide. The app, without root, allows you to swap out individual or full sets of icons with the press of a couple of buttons. Should you decide that you don’t like the look, simply revert or choose another icon pack to apply. It works with Nova/Apex-ready icon packs.

Now, I should point out that the app doesn’t theme the apps in your app drawer, only the apps on your home screens. So it’s not the ultimate solution, but it certainly gets the job done for those who rarely enter their app drawers and do not mind if those apps aren’t themed.

The app is incredibly simple to use. Assuming you have a few icon packs installed, open Beautiful Icon Styler and you should see them listed. To apply, simply tap the “apply” button next to each and the app will do the work for you. If you would like to individually choose icons to style, you can do that as well, but that feature is only available in the paid version. If you need help finding icon packs, be sure to check out our long list of recommendations.

The app is free to try for “3 stylings.” To upgrade, so that you receive infinite stylings and the one-by-one selection feature, you are looking at a price of $0.99.

Awesome Icons in the Play store is a free alternative to this, though it has slightly fewer features. Also works without 3rd party launchers or root.

  • Johnny Steele

    Fun fact. I can’t revert them back to stock icons ;_;

  • Mohak

hey Kellex can you give me yor wallpaper ? Its so cool !

    • DanSan

      i second this

  • cizzlen

It is about god damn time

  • does anyone know what casing used in the picture (that blue one) thanks! 🙂

  • trwb

Why does it need permission to look at accounts on my device?

    • CoreRooted

Most likely to customize icons per user.

  • James Philippon

Would be nice if it worked with Lumos. Hangouts and Camera don’t even change.

    • Which launcher are you attempting to use the app with? Which device are you using?

      • James Philippon

        Stock launcher. GEL. Nexus 5.

  • Rashad

Nice option to have. Better than nothing at all.

  • if only it would change the ugly box folders on HTC Blinkfeed

  • paul_cus

This is really awesome. I always want to change my icons, but like to stay with the stock launcher. Good looking out, Kellen.

  • nova for life!!!

  • charesa39

I wonder if this can be used in conjunction with Unicon to change the individual icons that aren’t themed in the icon pack you are using (since Unicon doesn’t support changing individual icons). Hmm…

    • this is also my question, any one tried it so far with Unicon? thanks! 🙂

    • RobS

There is a new xposed-module exactly for this! its called xsuit (the name is going to change apparently). It lets you change the icon and the name of each app individually, but you need the icons as png-images. its in its early stages, so its not perfect and crashes sometimes, but it works. I’ve been waiting for something like that for a long time…

What’s the theme being used in the pictures in the article? Domo?

    • Yes, that’s Domo.

  • Disqus_n00b

If only the stock launcher allowed for smaller icons

  • Jason

Any chance someone can give me a link to this app, I can’t find it.

Is this app from a place called “Calcium Ion Labs?” I tried searching “Beautiful Icon Styler” and “Icon Styler” and didn’t see it. I searched “Styler” and I think I found it…but right now, it’s showing it only has “50+” downloads. Is this the right one?

    • trixnkix637

It’s the right one, I assume the low download count is because it was released today?

  • Silky Johnson

On the google now launcher its not changing the icons in the app drawer just the homescreen. i’ve been able to change the homescreen icons no matter the launcher with desktop visualizer for a while now

    • Adam

This is already noted in the article:

“Now, I should point out that the app doesn’t theme the apps in your app drawer, only the apps on your home screens.”

It’s not working on Verizon LG G2…

    • KLNURI

      Worked after a restart

  • Chris M

    Been waiting for this

  • Cowboydroid

Not getting any results on stock Google Now launcher…trying to apply Lustre…

  • Inspector Butters

nova disables the knock-on feature on my G2 otherwise I’d be using it.

    • Eric R.

Download screen off and set up a double tap gesture on nova In activities for it

      • Ray

that doesnt work to turn the screen on though correct?

        • Eric R.

Yes, sorry. I didn’t know that LG worked like that. I have an M8 and the gestures to turn on work no matter what app you have on while the phone is in sleep

          • Maxim∑

I have the G2 and NOVA launcher, I can turn it on as normal only difference is you have to double tap the status bar to turn the phone off instead of just anywhere

    • rfranken

I use nova and my G2 knocks on as it should

    • Maxim∑

you can just double tap on the status bar? and knock on still works to turn on the phone with NOVA for me.

  • Does it allow you to set a single icon on a folder?

  • Jason

Not finding this app in the Play Store

  • Ray

I can’t leave nova it’s just to gorgeous

      Name sucks though

    • Cookie-eater

eats battery like I eat cookies. and I eat a lot of cookies trust me ..

      • Ray

never noticed nova eating battery it doesn’t even show up on my battery stats

      • EP_2012

I haven’t noticed Nova consuming more battery life . :/

      • Colin Huber

I don’t have that problem with Nova.

      • Eric R.

What launcher do you reccomend then?

      • Maxim∑

it might eat battery life but I cant tell with the #G2

    • Kenny Woodard

Velur icon pack is the best!

    • Guest

What widget is that with the time and weather and battery you have there? Link would be nice to it in the Play Store, but I’d settle for a name. If it’s not too much trouble.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

I use Google launcher with xposed framework. All of the nova actions and custome icon. With root of course 🙂

    Blinkfeed. Also known as SENSE

    • HTC is calling their Sense 6 launcher, the BlinkFeed launcher.

        My mistake then

  • Ray

i just wish Nova launcher would add the google now voice activation feature and it would be perfect

    • MichaelFranz

^ This – Its on their list of features people are requesting. i’m on the nova beta and haven’t seen anything in a while…hopefully soon

      • Ray

        running beta too cant wait

        • Eric R.

Where can I get the beta?

          • Ray

            under nova settings>nova launcher prime>menu button>click beta

      • Jonathan

The developer of Nova Launcher has finished working on it, so unless he passes on his code to someone else or makes it open-source, developement is finished.

        • Rodeojones000

Where do you come across this info?

    • Nathan Borup

Not just voice activation, but the option to swipe to google now… I use it all the time

      • Paul R

I have the Moto X so I have the voice search but you can get the effect of swipe for Google now on Nova by going to Nova settings > gestures and buttons > swipe up > apps tab > Google. I never thought I would leave the now launcher because of that but missed the customization of nova so created that gesture and it works perfectly for me.

  • Qbancelli

I have been doing this with the Icon Changer app for more than 5 years.

      With stock launcher?

      • Eric R.

Yep, it just takes more time and had to be done manually

    • Justin Foster

I just checked the market and realized I’ve had this app installed for quite a while but forgot about it lol

    • Mark Mann

Just found out you have to keep icon launcher installed or the changed icons stop working
