HTC’s BlinkFeed and Gallery Apps Receive Small Updates Through Google Play

blinkfeed update

One of the perks of having key system apps available on Google Play is getting quick updates, without having to go through a carrier certification process. HTC seems to be taking advantage of putting its main apps on Play well, updating both its Gallery and BlinkFeed apps today with a couple minor, but welcome changes.

BlinkFeed received fixes allowing for smoother scrolling, along with fixes for a couple of bugs. Also, users can add “more social content when [they] want,” making for a fairly noteworthy update.

The Gallery app is getting only one change, but it is fairly substantial when compared to any one of BlinkFeed’s additions. Users using the “Foreground” picture editing tool, can now tap anywhere on their display to apply the effect, rather than only in specific areas as the app functioned before.

If you haven’t already, head on over to Google Play and grab the updates.

One more reason to go with the new One.

Loving updates going through playstore. before this would have taken months to be pushed, if ever pushed. Hope more OEM’s go this route.

    Classic HTC ripping off Google.

Ripping off? So Moto must be too then right? and by doing something a better way is ripping off? hmm never knew that

Loving this new update stuff for Sense 6.0

      Got the M8?

      • KingofPing

Just updated BlinkFeed through the Play Store on my m7. :)

(I should probably mention that this device is running a port of the m8 ROM…)

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Cool. didn’t know there was M7 support for it yet. ….. Damn I miss that phone. Is it better after the update?

          • KingofPing

Better? No idea. Don’t actually use blinkfeed…just thought I’d check and see if my device saw the update.

…have had two FC’s now that I’ve updated it though. Yay me!

The M8 BlinkFeed is much better than the M7. Cleaner, more fluid. I used it on the M7 and hated how it looked and felt and I gave it a try again on my M8, and now use it every single day. I love it

          How?

InsertCoin, Renovate, ARHD…most the popular ROMs actually, have “SixthSense” versions out now.

ARHD has probably released the last one that they will be releasing until the official Sense 6.0 base is available for the m7….mike has been hinting for a day or two now that it’s close.

InsertCoin just adopted the dev from Elegencia (also for m7), updates daily, via SVN at least, which is incredibly easy to set up and use (wish more devs did this!)

Never used Renovate….someone else will have to comment.

Check out the international HTC One “One Android Development” section of xda.

Yes and I love it! BoomSound and Gesture Unlocking are the freaking amazing

    • LionStone

Looking forward to the continuous scroll on Blinkfeed 6th Sense!

      • tylerc23

Is that what they updated? I never even noticed, I only used the original Blinkfeed on M7 for a little while so I don’t remember

        • LionStone

          Yep, they sure did!

  • George Davis

Any word on when BlinkFeed will be available to install for non-HTC phones? Or are they still doing that? Heard about it in one DL story and then nothing.

    • tylerc23

Soon, Summer I believe. It’s like how they have Google Search (Google Now) on iOS

Hope so. I have yet to find the perfect news delivery system on Android so I figure BlinkFeed deserves a shot (especially since Kellen loves it now). The best I have been able to find so far is News+ (using RSS from Feedly).

I just told someone else actually, I used it on the M7 and it was okay at first, then the design and the feel of it got to me and I removed it. Now, I got the M8 and I gave it another try. Let me tell you something, it is fantastic. I use it every single day, and cannot believe it. I mean I went from really not liking, to loving.
