Deal: Galaxy Gear on Sale at Woot! For $159

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a flawed product. Its limited compatibility, average battery life, and odd styling made its debut price of $349.99 very hard to justify. Now that Woot! has the Gear for 46 percent off at $159.99, though, I’d argue it’s a little more compelling.

The Woot! deal is one of the better we’ve seen. It’s $30 off retail and only $10 more than the Best Buy’s flash sale a few weeks ago. If you’ve been eyeing the Galaxy Gear for a while, it might be time to pull the trigger. Of course, with the launch of Samsung’s improved Gear smartwatches, the price of the original can only go down.

Woot! has the Galaxy Gear in 5 colors: lime green, oatmeal beige, wild orange, mocha gray, and rose gold.

Math correction: While 160 is about 46% _OF_ 350, that doesn’t make it “46% off”.
At $160 this is actually about 54.3% OFF the original $350. (Not that this big discount makes me even slightly interested in the bad product). You guys need to hire me as a proof reader or something. : )

I like the idea, but I don’t like the fact that I can only be connected to one Bluetooth device at a time. Which means that real-time information cannot flow to the watch if I am using my headset, and I cannot use my headset if my watch is connected to the phone. I don’t know if I am the only one with this concern, but that is really the only thing stopping me from jumping board.

I use LG tones at the same time I have my Gear connected to my s4 and it works just fine. Granted I use the watch as a glorified portable caller ID for answering calls on my headset while being unable to track down where I set my phone down. Good thing I got the watch through work for cheap.

  • Jornish

The Galaxy Gear is trash and I wouldn’t use one even if it was a free.

  • Jon

It’s not worth it given that the updated version is $200. Better off buying the update or waiting for the Google Wear watches to arrive this summer. The brief few days I had the Galaxy Gear, I thought the wristband was too rigid and uncomfortable. The new ones at least have a more normal wristband that probably alleviates that problem.

I thought the debut price was 300..
    The Qualcomm Toq was 350

DL stay hat in on Sammy

    even i f it were 20 i probably wouldn’t get it

  • Detonation

    Still not worth it

  • enigmaco

Have they fixed the issue where it didn’t work with non-samsung phones?

    • crazed_z06

      That’s not an “issue”

      • enigmaco

oh goodie another corrector then what is it

        • crazed_z06

It’s nothing. It’s the way it was designed. It’s not supposed to work with non-Samsung devices.

          • Big_EZ

            Or even older Samsung devices.

  • Pebble Steel and Moto 360 owns the market.

    • Jon

I bet you there are very few Pebble steels on the market. Pebble has done well, but they failed to blow the smartwatch market wide open. That has yet to be done by anyone. 400,000 units sold is really not that much in the grand scheme of things. I think the smartwatches have yet to really take off, and Google Wear is probably what will make this happen.

  • michael interbartolo

    definitely waiting for the Moto360.

  • 213ninja

in order to save time i will go ahead and say it for everyone, this thing is trash and the 360 owns.

forrealdo, this isn’t the best deal out there on 1st gen Gears, Best Buy has been doing Deal of the Day on these for a month or so at $149.99, and $99.99 for refurbs…

    • Detonation

How can you say the 360 owns when it’s not even available yet?

      • Ian

That should tell you how much the Gear sucks….something not even available yet is conceivably better.

      • 213ninja

i said i was saying it on behalf of others, not me bud 😉 i own the gear and i like it. if my post alleviated at least 1 other 360 suckfest (like the guy who just said it “owns the market”) you should be upvoting me!

  • Rechie

Hah! Not going to waste money on that. The only reason I’m considering to get a smartwatch is because it actually does look like a watch, an elegant one at that, with the Moto 360.

  • Jérôme Besnard

Tanks but no thanks. Waiting for moto 360.

    • Let’s just hope it’s not $360 🙂
