Wireless Charging Back Cover for the Galaxy S5 Already Up for Pre-order

galaxy s5 wireless charging

Already planning to pick up the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it launches on April 11 across the U.S.? Interested in wireless charging too? If so, the wireless charging back plate for the device is already available for pre-order from Samsung’s own accessory store for $29.99. You can grab it in either black or white to match the two color variants being released in the States.

For those new to wireless charging, just understand that almost all Samsung phones are ready for wireless charging, they just need a special back plate that can receive a charge through a charging plate. With that in mind, also understand that you’ll need a charging plate in order to use this back cover. I’ve linked an official Samsung plate below, but there are plenty for much more reasonable prices at retailers like Amazon.

Go get ‘em!

Thanks kellex, GS5 flip wireless receiver should fully workable with QiPack wireless portable charger which available on kickstarter now http://bit.ly/QiPackKS

CHOETECH ON Amazon said something like this before but my friend said that they have it in store now. i will check them today

But Still I have little doubt. Galaxy S5 is water
resistant device. So this official back cover retain its water resistant
feature or not? I am currently using Nexus 4 for which I have qi charger and it
is compatible with all qi enabled Smartphones. Definitely look to buy this one
    along with Galaxy S5.

Does anyone know if this OEM charging back adds any thickness to the device overall? Can’t tell from the pics.

  • yankeesusa

As much as I like the features on this phone, I think the wireless charging should have come with phone already. I’ll stick with my new Nexus 5 till the Note 3 Kitkat is compatible with google wallet tap and pay.

  • MichaelFranz

Should of been included…but its a $29.99 way to get rid of carrier branding :)

I have the LG wcp-700 charging plate and couldn’t be happier with it.
Use it with my g pro and it is almost automatic now lining it up on the
first try. Definitely worth it for me since it saves wear/tear on the
USB port. Windows 8.1 Update 1 leaked by Microsoft

Also, will this cover allow for NFC (does the original allow for NFC usage)?

    • yankeesusa

Great question. I no longer use my Note 2 because it hasn’t gotten updated to kitkat and won’t be compatible with tap and pay from google wallet. Till the kitkat from the Note 3 is compatible I will enjoy my nexus 5 for now. Looking forward to g3 or lg g pro 2 for tmobile.

really wanted to get this Spigen case, but realizing I’d lose out on inductive charging. Is there hope for a specific light-weight case like this that allows for inductive charging:

      seidio

Why’s that? I’m using a Cruzerlite case on mine and wife has a Google bumper case on hers, and both still charge wirelessly. EDIT: Nexus 5, but.. case is a case..

  • Milton

    Samesung copying others again…

  • RaptorOO7

Cool, about time Samsung offered accessories in time for the launch of their flagship devices. Now if only we could get 32GB versions of the GS5.

  • Turner

Yet another reason I won’t be upgrading to this phone. That back is hideous, at least make wireless charging one of THE features out of the box.

  • p0k3y

I bought a Qi charger off ebay for $14 for my Nexus 5 and it has worked flawlessly. Why can’t a $600 samsung’s phone support wireless charging natively, when a $350 phone can do it? Oh, never mind…

  • Alec

Awesome! Now I can pre-order my wireless band-aid!

  • mcdonsco

I was totally into wireless charging until I discovered the joy of the Samsung spare battery and charging system thingy…now I just rarely if ever “charge” the phone itself…just swap batteries. Only time I plug in now is if phone is low at bedtime.

Will do the same for my GS5 when I get it (assuming of course the charging system will be available then…soon I hope).

Need to sell all my Nokia dt-900’s though…almost doubled my money on my tylt’s already; but the Nokia’s are proving more difficult to move.

    • Ray

I use spare batteries and wireless charging

      • XvierX

Ditto. I rarely got below 60%.

      • mcdonsco

well considering how tough these Nokia’s are to get rid of I my might just end up keeping them especially considering that $30 cover will only cost me $15 after my 50 percent off coupon code for Samsungs website

    • Gideon Waxfarb

I used to be into wireless charging (or at least the IDEA of it) until I got the Nexus 4 charging orb. That POS was more trouble than it was worth. Have to put the phone down 3 or 4 times before it starts charging. Might as well just plug in the USB cable.

We have three LG WC 300 chargers. They all work great with no audible beeping.

That seems like a lot of work… It’s much easier to just through my G2 on a wireless charger at night and pick it up in the morning without having to take the back off, swap batteries, then put the dead battery in a charger.

      • yankeesusa

Plus the g2 has great battery life already. I’m jealous . My friend has the g2 and it lasts just as long as my Note 2.

  • Maxim∑

Let’s not just include an inductive plate on the standard back cover

    • mcdonsco

      Yea, admittedly that is annoying.

    • creed

Right, and DL thinks this is amazing. $30 for a back cover that the phone should have come with.

    • XvierX

another thing that annoyed me was how much bulk it added to the back. It made finding a case more difficult. it would be nice if it caused the camera lens to be flush with the back plate instead of sunken in

    • RaptorOO7

Exactly, why would they do that and save customers $29, oh because that is the CrApple way nickle and dime so Samsung and every other OEM is doing it too. Next CrApple will sue for over charging on accessories, I mean come on its CrApple’s idea right.

    • Somedude

Samsung is a better pathetic company

    • MicroNix

I’d rather not pay for it if I don’t want it, thank you very much.
