Tegra-exclusive Rochard Now Live on Google Play, Priced at $6.99

Rochard_-_Android_Apps_on_Google_Play

A new title hit Google Play this afternoon, Rochard from Recoil Games. The game is an interesting platformer, following a character that must solve puzzles and shoot baddies through five “long” chapters. The feel of the game is quite cartoonish, but the graphics are good. Different weapons and tools will help you get through various stages, which means not only are you entertained, but you will need to use your brain power every now and then.

Unfortunately, as cool as it looks, the game is only playable on Tegra 4 devices, which includes the SHIELD portable console and a handful of tablets. This move is quite disconcerting, so here’s hoping the developers release it to additional devices soon.

Features

  • 5 long Chapters crammed with fast-paced platforming action and mind-bending puzzles based on gravity
  • A beautifully crafted cartoonish visual style, rich with humor and personality
  • Incredible items able to influence gravity and grab, swing and throw objects to solve puzzles or get rid of enemies
  • A groovy soundtrack composed by Markus “Captain” Kaarlonen from Poets of the Fal
  • The legendary performance of Jon St. John as the voice of protagonist John Rochard
  • The most advanced use of the Unity engine in a video game

Curious how to make a game not fun for most Android users? Make it a Tegra exclusive title.

Tegra exclusive, so basically no one can play it. What was the point of this?

  • AbbyZFresh

If only the Tegras were on every current Android phone. Why use Snapdragons?

  • Justen DeBowles

As a Tegra Note owner… I like this news. :)

I have basically the same device, Slate 7 Extreme, and it’s not compatible. What’s happening with HP? First no android update (still 4.2.2), and then this?!

      • Jan Achrenius

Slate 7 Extreme will be supported in the next release.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

SOC exlusive applications have always been such a dumb idea. Google thing Qualcomm didn’t follow Nvidia down that road.

  • Maxim∑

    Increasing fragmentation even more!

  • Uncle Ruckus

It has been awhile since a flagship smartphone was Tegra powered.

Same here, how many devices are even Tegra powered these days?

Mmmmm, gotta love the smell of #fragmentation

I’m pretty sure that a Snapdragon 800 will be able to handle it…

    • T4rd

Was just about to say this. I’d bet the 600 would even be able to run it (albeit at less FPS, but still playable).

  • cmbeid

I got Rochard through Humble Indie Bundle. I hope the Android version will get a wider release.
