Sprint’s Galaxy Note 3 Receiving Kit Kat Today as Build VPUCNAB

galaxy note 3

Sprint appears to be a step ahead of the other carriers in the game when comes to updating their Samsung devices to Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat.” Last week, before Samsung had even announced their list of devices to receive the latest version of Android, Sprint went ahead and began updating its version of the Galaxy S4. This morning (or really late last night), they took the next step and started the push of 4.4.2 to the Galaxy Note 3.

Included in the update are things like better media controls on the lock screen, restyled navigation and notification areas, more Emoji, consolidated location settings, wireless printing, and more. The update will rollout as build VPUCNAB.

Here is the changelog from Samsung:

  • OS upgrade to Android 4.4.2 (KitKat)
    • New Lock Screen Access
      • Media Controls – full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music
      • Camera Shortcut  – access the Camera application right from the lock screen
    • SMS App Chooser – select a default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages
    • Restyled Status and Navigation Bars – status and navigation bars are translucent and can sit on top of apps, along with simplified status bar icons
    • Consolidated Location Settings – location services are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu
    • Expanded Emoji Icons
    • Wireless Printing – supports printing over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
    • Prevention Information pop-up message is suppressed.

I was told yesterday that google wallet doesn’t work with 4.3 , didn’t know that, oh well like they say tap and pay is dead

  • compwagon

Can anyone who has this update tell us whether it has HCE (ie, can use Google Wallet over NFC)?

  • jimbob

The Verizon version will get updated when the Galaxy Gear 2 comes out and only works on Kit Kat devices. Until then…….(crickets)….

  • 213ninja

This is good news but I heard Verizon is still testing their new ‘My Verizon Wireless Printing app’, ‘My Verizon SMS App Chooser app’, and ‘My Verizon Prevention Information Pop-Up Message Suppressor app’…..hopefully once those are approved we’ll get the update.

They push updates faster than their network pushes packets.

“SMS App Chooser – select a default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages”

    Amazing.

    • flosserelli

And since it is Touchwiz, that SMS chooser is probably a 20 mb file.

    • The Narrator

Lol what the, dedicated decision making.

      • Adrynalyne

I guess Google’s method just wasn’t sufficient, LOL.

    • T4rd

TW now includes an App Chooser Chooser! You can use the Samsung TW App Chooser to choose the default Android App chooser to choose which app chooser you want to choose when you choose your apps. Choose wisely or it may not let you unchoose your app chooser of choice!

        lol

    Dear Verizon,

    Sprint is beating you.

    Sincerely,
A New VZW Note 3 Owner

Ps: I’m still in my first 14 days… don’t test me.

    • hfoster52

Same. I like this phone even better than the Note 2.

      “Your internet connection is unstable.”

Get use to slow (or non existent) updates. They have been getting better at it, but i’m still bitter from my galaxy nexus days.

    • Blue Sun

Leave before it is too late. For reals.

  • EvanTheGamer

DAMN! I scanned the title rather quickly and skipped over the “Sprint” part, and then read the rest and for a second, I was like, “YES! At last my GN3 gets Kit Kat!” But then went back to the first word, and was like, “Nooooooooooooo!”

I did the exact same thing!!! Silly me……

  • Bionicman

i’m perfectly happy with my note 3 on 4.3. while i think its great to get the latest updates, i’m always a little afraid something is going to break or battery will be worse or something. Here’s to hoping its a solid update!

    • Pdewet

I have a Note 3 on Verizon but my buddy is on Sprint so he got the update this morning. He already texted me saying his phone is running hot and that he literally watched the battery drain. According to him its just the phone adjusting to the update and that it “settled”. This makes me nervous though. I want the update as bad as the next person but I don’t want to deal with any issues like that.

      • C-Law

What your friend said doesn’t even make sense

        • Pdewet

you are right..I don’t agree with his explanation I just wanted to point out that there is potential issues with the update which I hope we don’t experience

          • Adrynalyne

            The more likely reason is:

His installed apps had to re-odex again. On top of that, it was a new update that made him want to check out the phone more than usual. Once usage went back to normal and apps re-odexed and the indexing Samsung uses finished, it cleared up.

          • Pdewet

Makes sense…with that being said then, come on Verizon

          • Adrynalyne

            Indeed.

      • PoisonApple31

Maybe your friend downloaded the wrong Flappy Bird clone.

        • michael arazan

Sounds like when I play dots on my phone or tablet. Even when the charger is plugged in that games sucks down the battery

  • Ray

It would be nice if all S4’s and Note 3’s get kit kat before Samsung announces the S5 next week

    • The Narrator

I wouldn’t count on it. Maybe everybody, but Verizon.

    • Simpsons Did It

I would think they would get it before it releases. To The Narrator’s dismay.

  • David Thomas

SWEETNESS!! Just checked mine, and downloading the update package now!

  • Tyler Stewart

Now just to get this to T-Mobile’s Note 3. I miss not having Kit Kat like I had on the Nexus 5 and Moto X..

  • Eric Kyle

    Hurry up Verizon!!

    • jbegs

Yeah, hurry with the Note 3 so it can be rolled out to my Note II…
