HTC One (2014) Pictured in Grey and Silver as Well

htc one 2014 silver

Weren’t exactly digging the all-gold HTC One (2014) that first appeared yesterday courtesy of @evleaks? That’s OK, neither were we. Would you consider a dark grey or silver, though? Thanks once again to Evan, we have press renders of both additional colors looking quite pretty in their unofficially official skins.

The silver is above, while the grey can be found below. Why we need two incredibly similar silverish, greyish colors is beyond me, but hey, choices are choices. I’m especially fond of the dark grey color found below, let’s just hope that it doesn’t have paint chipping or scratching issues.

And that’s all there is to report. We still do not have a firm grip on specs or how HTC plans to use that second camera on the back, but in terms of hardware design and color palette, you now know.

So I just realized that Kellex has these colors wrong, the top one is grey and the bottom is black, the silver is the same as last year.

  • Brendan Kish

there are things wrong with both renders. The silver ones black lines on the back compared to what you can see on the front dont match up. The front is clearly blown up more than the back but somehow the lines are smaller on the front. The silver one does look more like the gold render as well. the black one is weird as well with that chrome and the bottom speaker and no power button. if the new desire tells us anything that bottom bezel is here to stay and they will be sticking with the htc browser not chrome. That front facing camera might be 5 mp though

  • Suman Gandham

The black HTC “bar” at the bottom is insulting. Why? :(

  • abhele

they always have to f something up that htc logo !!

  • LANCE

that .5in front logo just ruins it :(

  • rogue05

I’m liking the dark grey too, it actually matches my car color.

  • NemaCystX

The silver looks gorgeous, it looks like a brushed metal this time around

  • http://www.ytmnd.com MH

    bezelicious

  • Jaimin
  • Jason Kahn

Anyone else think Verizon will take out the HTC Logo and replace it with, VERIZON 4G LTE, that’s on the front bottom bezel.

  • Tyrone Biggums

Imagine HTC uses that second camera to try and bring 3D back. That’ll be a jaw dropping fail and the last nail it in the coffin.

  • chris_johns

i love that metallic one…..minus the black bar of course…because having a space for capacitive/phsycial buttons but using onscreen instead makes…like no sense

  • paulmike3

These renders are so fishy. No QA?

    http://i.imgur.com/4Od8Jdb.png

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I mean they’re leaked renders, if these were official it’d be one thing.

    • Tyler Casilio

I’m starting to wonder if HTC made these renders intentionally, knowing stuff would leak. Why would there be different stuff between renders? Kinda weird, almost like this may not be what the final build is

  • Cesar

I never much cared for the brushed metal look on the original HTC One. It always felt a bit too flashy for me, and none of the color variants did it any good to me. But, I gotta say, the dark grey render looks pretty freaking cool here.

  • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

I LOVE the look of these phones, just get rid of that black bar!

    • Steve B

      This.

      • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

I just don’t get it… Everyone complained about the black bar making it taller than it has to be, so they went with on screen buttons but kept the bar so now we have even less usable screen space most of the time.

    • LunchTray

      Here you go.

      • Tyrone Biggums

        THIS!!!!

      • Tyler Casilio

I’m in love. HTC da F man, why can’t you do that?

      • Steve B

        Haha, if only…

      • Jason Kahn

This I’d Buy just enough bezel to house the MIC, Speaker, ETC. Is the way it should be.

      • El_Big_CHRIS

That is exactly how htc should have made it. Shame if the black bar is real (which seems very likely)

        • Charles Walker

          The boomsound is why.

          • El_Big_CHRIS

I prefer the other fake render that showed the speakers and no htc logo black bar was sexy. By that bar is useless/pointless

          • Charles Walker

The fake render wasn’t realistic. The bar is useless for the consumer, but necessary for the phone internals. The only reason other phones aren’t this way is because they don’t have boomsound.

    • Miguel

Nova Launcher will do that trick in a heart beat.

      • flosserelli

The black bar everyone is complaining about appears to be part of the bezel, not the display.
Nova cannot fix an oversized bezel.

      • http://twitter.com/geoff5093 Geoff Johnson

How can Nova get rid of a permanent black bar?

      • Steve B

        Wow Derp.

  • OneForTheGoodDays

I feel old. When I was young Grey and Silver was the same thing.

  • Tyler Casilio

Whoa…the htc Grey One 2014 render is using Chrome and not the htc Internet Browser….whoaaaa

    • Frisi

That black render is fake. It’s missing a few things.

  • Tyler Casilio

There’s something wrong with the Grey one. Why is the BoomSound speaker all the way at the bottom? If you guys drag both images to new tabs and go back and forth you’ll see something is weird

    • Tyler Casilio

Actually the more I look at it, the more I think the Grey One 2014 is the Official Official picture and the Silver isn’t….yet. The quality and smoothness of the Grey’s screen, shape of the phone is much better than the Silvers. Weird

  • droidify

That’s beautiful. The bezels are much thinner. This is what the original one should have looked like. Amen to on screen buttons

    • Detonation

Except the black bezel space where the capactive buttons were is still there…

  • iheardulikemlg

Grey looks pretty good actually. The gold one from yesterday was hideous.

  • Cael

You see how the top speaker isn’t the same length as the bottom because of the sensors and front facing camera? Why couldn’t/didn’t HTC split the speaker at the bottom and put the HTC logo in the middle? SMH.

  • proparham

i think the second camera kinda ruined the design . but other than that its pretty good.

  • samosa legend

The silver one has got to me. It looks gorgeous.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Yes, we see the same my friend.

    • Tyler Casilio

It’s got a nice Brushed Metal look, yeah, she’s niceee

  • punkroyale

HTC is really making some questionable decisions. I realize they want to keep the market engaged but at what cost.

  • Artem Pervenyonok

Lock button still on top? When they will start placing them on the side?

    • MistaButters

Especially considering each generation of phones they make gets taller.

  • Tony Byatt

It’s amazing how the appearance of a device can change toward the positive by just changing the color of it…

That gold was hideous, these two look much better…

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

That silver is so damn sexy

  • Eric

    Gray has some bad photoshopping

    • flosserelli

Agreed. The more I look at it, the worse it gets. The rear sheen and shadowing are way off, the LED flash looks completely fake, the bottom speaker grill is too low, and the power “button” is missing the button. Now I am starting to think the grey version is vaporware.

      • David Narada Brown

and whats with the diagonal lines on them? the top picture has this on both pics, with the camera lens and flash looking 2 tone.

    • paulmike3

I posted this below, but here’s what I found in like 45 seconds. Yay mspaint!

      http://i.imgur.com/4Od8Jdb.png

      • Tyler Casilio

Look at the BoomSound at the Bottom of the Grey one and then look at the Silver one. Grey has it all the way at the bottom

        • paulmike3

Yeah, it’s so whack. Wiggety whack, even.

          • Tyler Casilio

I wonder which it will be. Honestly, the Grey looks more accurate, something about it, it’s a much cleaner image or something

      • M3D1T8R

Good job. And no power button, and no indentation at the bottom for the headphone jack. I like the dark gray look though.

  • TSK

The dark grey render seems to be incomplete or older. A lot of the elements of it are off, cameras, power buttons speakers, lighting, etc. I would like to assume that it is a newer render, as there is no visible power button, that may give some reason for the HTC logo on the bottom. perhaps it is some sort of capacitive finger print/power button. That might be way more convenient than having the button on the top.

    • MistaButters

HTC has been known to mess up press renders before. Buttons missing or too low/high is pretty common.

      • flosserelli

I think the dark grey rendering was created by a rabid HTC fan, and not an “official” leak.
If not, it is a pretty shoddy job. Maybe HTCs imaging people are the same ones responsible for their half-baked commercials.

        • MistaButters

I don’t know. I believe it was last years official HTC render where the buttons were at the wrong height in the front facing photo, but the right height in the side shot photo. I guess time will tell.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I love HTC, but I don’t expect that kind of surprise innovation from them. If the HTC Logo did anything we’d know by now

  • RedBeaVeR

    Ugly. Just…. ugh.

  • paul_cus

Yeah, dark grey is the best one for sure.

  • reyalP

They need to put another black bar on the top to even it out. It could be the real estate for the carrier logo.

  • The Narrator

So I’m guessing they didn’t move up in screen size…lame

  • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

I prefer the Sharper Edges of my launch htc One “Classic”, but I really
do think this All New htc One looks incredible in the dark gun metal
gray. If I get it, I’ll get that version. Also while I do Enjoy camera
shots on my current One, it does have a major down fall of not being
able to zoom in much and process it much since the pixels just are not
there. I really hope they up the resolution of the Ultrapixel to at
least 12 MegaPixels otherwise I’ll run into the same issue. Also I do
still occasionally get that dreaded Purple tinge on dark photos not a
lot, but enough to where it bugs me.

  • Sanchez

Ugly design. Skip. Only interested in the nexus 6 and the iPhone 6

  • Emilio Figueroa

I really want to know what that second camera is for. Maybe one for regular shots and on for nighttime shots? Otherwise, this thing looks beautiful.

    • EdubE24

      The dark is fantastic looking!!

    • The Narrator

That wouldn’t make sense. Just up the MP, and it has dual LED.

      • Justtyn Hutcheson

If they stuck with an UltraPixel (>2 micron), a higher resolution would mean a bigger sensor, which may not exist in a package that is useful in a smartphone as yet. To keep the same pixel size, the sensor surface area would need to increase proportional to the resolution increase, no easy task. A secondary sensor with a “normal” resolution can be placed away from the mainboard as well. Space on a smartphone mainboard is at a huge premium.

        • The Narrator

Then they need to stay away from Ultra Pixel. They must not test their cameras, or they’d see how crap they are at 4mp.

    • Higher_Ground

stereoscopic 3D photos, like they did with the EVO 3D. It’s been several years since the last one, but it had two cameras set up like that. Maybe they think it’s been long enough for a refresh?

      • Emilio Figueroa

From what I’ve read, it’s going to be used possibly for a after focus tehnology. So after you take a picture, you can return to it and refocus the photo.

  • litobirdy

whoa whoa WHAT.. firs ttime seeing the 2014 version of this phone, so speaker bezel, then black HTC bezel THEN on screen keys. epic fail

  • J. Gilbertson

My guess is that they’d use that second camera for HDR pictures. One long, one short focal

  • Daniel Walsh

    The HTC One looks better.

    • Dale

      Which One?

      • samosa legend

        The original HTC One.

        • Guest

          You mean this one?

          • MistaButters

No no no the other One

          • samosa legend

            No this One.

          • MistaButters

            Which One is that One?

          • samosa legend

            It’s the other One.

          • MistaButters

Ohhhh. So it’s not this One, it’s that One.

          • samosa legend

No I was talking about the other One.

          • Ferpa

            Which One?

          • Guest

            This one of course!

          • Cesar
          • Justin W

            The wrong One.

        • Dale

          Oh, you mean this one?

          • samosa legend

            No the other One.

          • Eric

            Clearly he means this One

          • Tyler Casilio

No one wants that One, they want the other one

          • samosa legend

            No that One.

        • Mark Schleupner

          Oh, you mean THIS one!

          • Tyler Casilio

No no, that’s not the one I was talking about, ya know, THE One

          • Juan

            Someone say Juan?

          • Tyler Casilio

That there isn’t the One, this here is the One

          • Joseph A. Yager

There can be only one One.

          • Tyler Casilio

You must be referring to that one battle You know, this One
