You Don’t Need Another Android Twitter Client, but Fenix is a Nice New Option

fenix twitter android

Building a Twitter app makes no sense these days. Twitter killed off third party development long ago when it decided to limit tokens (users) to 100,000 and not give developers an opportunity to receive more unless they did something that was truly unique or added to the platform and avoided mimicking the “core user experience.” As you can imagine, that’s nearly impossible to do. So when we see apps like Fenix, we want to ask the developer, “What are you thinking and why are you wasting your time?” But in the end, if the app is decent, we’ll still give it some play, as there is a chance it could be the one for you.

So yeah, here is Fenix, a new Twitter app that is currently in preview. It’s super simple, has a dedicated tablet layout, includes a hamburger navigation drawer, pull-to-refresh, and is really smooth and fast to use. You can quickly access lists or other sections of Twitter with a quick swipe, choose between light or dark themes, and even enjoy fancy animations on profile pages (think the new Play Newsstand app).

Feel free to check it out – it’s free.

The keyboard might be the stock Xperia keyboard. It looks like these screenshots were taken on an Xperia device.

Out of tokens or not all these new Twitter apps mimic Falcon PRO

  • KariNeko

    What’s that keyboard?

  • Alan Paone

It seems to be a lot faster than falcon when it’s loading conversations, which is nice. I like that there’s no space wasted on faux cards. The Lists are pretty well done too! They’re calling it a preview, but it seems solid already.

  • ganny21

What is that keyboard ?..it’s really cool..

  • Guang Hao

what keyboard is that in the 3rd screenshot in the 1st row?

  • Droid Ronin

(insert comment about Falcon Pro being the best)

  • LOV3BAS3DCUBANO

That keyboard is aexy. Someone got a link?

  • LOV3BAS3DCUBANO

What keyboard is that in the screenshots? Looks good

  • Humberto Hernandez

Shouldn’t it be blue? I mean, because of twitter?

    Too much “just white” apps…

  • michaelrango

what kind of keyboard are you using?

  • Joel Conde

    Looks nice.

  • TechTinker11

It looks like it’s a google app, just add some blue and some twitter branding, and this would be an amazing official client.

This is a very nice app, but I would like to comment on the whole “what were you thinking and why would you create this” question.

When I started to make Talon, it wasn’t about the money, it wasn’t about the users, and it definitely wasn’t about the press. I did it because I loved to do it and thought that I could create something cool and unique. Just because I have a user limit doesn’t mean that I can’t keep working on the app. If that were my mentality, then I don’t think that I should have started the app in the first place. A developer shouldn’t be in it for the money or users, like I said, they should create something fun, something they think is useful, and they should enjoy using it.

Any developer is going to create an app that they use for themselves, so there ya go. In my opinion that is what matters, that you are doing something you enjoy and making some others happy in the process. Maybe if you make apps for any other reason you should reconsider your profession/hobby

I do not at all think I am wasting my time with Talon and it kinda hurts that others would think that a developer is wasting their time making any app, I enjoy doing it and that is enough for me

    • TheFirstUniverseKing

Always nice to see a dev who doesn’t create apps purely for profit.

    • ReturnOfTheMack

Interesting perspective. Unfortunately there are quite a few developers who are solely in it for the money, thankfully you’re not one of them.

    • DKDigitally

This is exactly why I have purchased all of your applications. To be honest I don’t often use them, but you have a great design vision and the user base in mind. You’re a great developer and I’m more than happy to make sure I do what I can to help keep you developing.

Well said luke !! , I’m a developper too and for a new Twitter client (Tweetr+) , and i definitely relate to what you said and it did hurts a bit when i read “What are you thinking and why are you wasting your time?”, it’s not waste of time if the developer enjoys it and learns a lot from it (which is my case and a lot of other devs too)

    • Tony G.

talon is buttery smooth. very well done. just wish i could have more than the extra 2 pages for lists. i have about 7 lists to help cut down on cluttery timeline. all in all, a very good app, better than falcon pro

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

Talon’s biggest flaw is its speed. It takes forever for things to refresh. However, Fenix looks similar to Talon, refreshes almost instantaneously, but doesn’t have many features.

  • vernSL

Talon has been becoming increasingly slower for me. Fenix has replaced it for now, love how quick it is.

This is pretty nice. I’ll keep it installed and see where it goes. It’s missing a couple of things that I feel like I need in a Twitter app, live streaming and a scrolling widget, but it is really really early for Fenix at this point so I don’t hold it against them. I’ve yet to find an app that truly competes with Falcon Pro yet (Talon is nice and the closest I’ve seen but seems to destroy my battery.) Hopefully this is the one that does it.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Perfect timing. I used to be in love with TweetCaster Pro but that UI is so DATED it’s really annoying. Though it has all the features I like. I’ll try this app but what else do folks use that gives them a all round experience with twitter (Except the official app…no thanks)

  • snobrdr2324

This has become my new Twitter app over falcon pro. It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting in a Twitter client ever since I switched to android. Glad to get in before the token limit is reached.

  • Proioxix

I’ll just stick to Talon, works well for me so no need to try anything else.

  • Metal_Link

    Any sign of Tweetmarker support?

  • http://www.youtube.com/MKBHD Marques Brownlee

This is actually really nice. consider it installed!

    • http://droid-life.com/ Rthvk

For free, kind of a no-brainer really

An install from me as well!

      • The Narrator

Might as well download all the bird apps, lol.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

      What do you use now?

      • BigTimmay

Are you going to start using it just because he’s using it?

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

          FFS shut up.

        • TheFirstUniverseKing

          Someone’s jealous of Marques.

          • BigTimmay

Of course. Who wouldn’t be? He makes a boat load of $$ from YouTube. He makes great videos, and he’s not the most technically smart person out there either. He found his niche and made something of it. Props to him on that. It has nothing to do with my comment.

        • The Narrator

Get back on your wheelchair and roll out, dumbass.

          • BigTimmay

Name calling? Really? What are we 10?

    • zach strickland

A whole “flock” of Twitter apps now..couldn’t help it

    • TheFirstUniverseKing

Marques downloading Fenix? Isn’t there some Gears of War joke just waiting to be made from that?
