Where is the emoji’s expansion on my phone I don’t see a button on it.

  • JuanBldrs

It’s strange that I didn’t get the updated navigation bar.

Stupid newbie question here, but after this update leaks is there any way to install Kit Kat on my Verizon S4? I’m rooted

    • Marikel

No. Just wait another month or so for the update to reach your device. Being a newbie at this, you probably won’t want to ruin your phone trying to do things like that. You should unroot and go back to stock before the update hits, just to be safe. If you wanna get into the ROM flashing stuff, I suggest you buy a really cheap tablet (NOOK HD is fine) and practice on that before you go anywhere near your $600 phone.

Why place the phone face down on the payment to take a picture?

      • Bob

        did it work?

      • Bob

        did this work?

    • Bob

How do you install with GOTA download?
Been a while… since my HTC Hero since ive done manual update. But that was using HTC software.

      • mmark27

Sorry for the delay bob. #1. download file and move to the external SD card of your device. #2. power off the device (probably a good idea to back stuff up with kies or something prior, just in case). #3. hold home + vol up + power button until Samsung logo appears with tiny blue text, then release all three buttons. #4. pick update from external card (use vol up and down arrows to navigate, power button to select), #5. select that update file you transferred (don’t need to rename it at all). #6. be patient, it’ll run its course. Only do this if you are bone stock and not rooted. If you get some file errors and an exit, don’t panic, just redownload the file, and start over again. My device hung for a long time on “patching files” so don’t worry, it’ll keep going.

It works but I’m having a couple issues .first one is when I download a new app it places the icon over top another icon on my home screen. Second problem is sometimes when I push my home button there is a pretty long delay around 5 seconds . Other than that runs pretty smooth an battery life seems improved

        • Bob

Thank you for detailed info… I will try & report back.

          • Bob

            Worked Great!

        • Bob

          Thanks mmark27! Worked great…

          • Rich Mascia

Any issues with the file so far that you have noticed?

          • Bob

None… just normal. Need clear out apps cashe. Etc .
Very pleased. Minor UI changes. Snappier. Faster. No lag. Better battery. Keyboard.

Haven’t had to factory reset. Yet. I usually do for all major OS updates.
& will at some point. After I backup & have time. Always find just better to do right away… Runs better.

Anyone running Kit Kat on the S4 and wireless tethering effectively? FoxFi has been giving me a notification indicating that it may not work with Kit Kat. Anyone else seeing this? I’m on Verizon.

    • jimbob

      Root = free tether

      • David

I am rooted, but often when I receive an OTA update it breaks root. Can you recommend a stable Kit Kat custom ROM for Verizon S4 that has free tether baked in?

  • mmark27

Someone please pull the GOTA file link for us to grab manually!

  • jhlinka

I love how the photo highlights the crappy glossy plastic

    • The Narrator

Well, that’s what it’s known for. Besides touchlag.

    • shawn

Because its reflecting a tree ?

  • sean carey

When Moto was part of Google, Moto X got 4.4 RIGHT AWAY! Now they split, and US Cellular Moto X’s, Samsung S4’s, random phones are getting 4.4.2 before me. Its depressing.

    • Blue Sun

Moto is still part of Google. The deal hasn’t been approved by either country…

  • Ben Murphy

    That release date tho….

    • Ronaldo

Didn’t even notice. Don’t think I want to install an OS that old on my phone.

    • silver_arrow

And its JDQ39 which is a 4.2.2 build

  • ronaldo

Tried to update with KIES, no update available yet.

  • tommy

    Let’s go, tmobile! Tighten up.

  • Dan

The second someone turns ART on all the samsung apps are going to flip out and start force closing

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Really forgot what it’s like to look forward to these updates since I went back nexus. I used to be craving posts like this.

    • Fry

I’m glad I forgot. Its nice being first on the list again.

  • epps720

LG, when’s my G2 getting KK?!

    • jnt

Can’t wait… just picked up a G2 on T-Mobile, still a top-tier device. With some 4.4 love I can throw GEL on there and make it about as Nexus-y as possible. But I haven’t heard much of anything about it, which can’t be a good sign!

      • The Narrator

Why does it matter? 4.2.2 is perfect. I’d rather them take their time to make 4.4.2 perfect too. Not like it’s a huge change, either.

        • jnt

Oh it doesn’t matter, but I’ve had a Nexus 5 and there are some niceties about 4.4 that I’d like to have on my G2, that’s all. I don’t think that’s a crime. 🙂 But obviously it doesn’t REALLY matter. I chose the G2 over the N5 because I felt like it was an overall better *phone*, so obviously having 4.4 won’t change that aspect of it.

        • Bob

Not a huge change. .. but first update I’ve noticed much improved speed & battery. UI wise… nothing new.

  • Bob

Verizon update in t-minus 6 months. Yup I just did that.

    • Mike Aurin

About as useful as the “First” commenters.

      • Bob

        I try… I try…

  • jnt

I wonder how ART will make the S4 feel… if they allow it?

    • Mike Aurin

Good Guy Sprint for being the first carrier over here to give the S4 Kit Kat.

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Sprint is the very definition of “Good Guys Finish Last”

        • Aakash Das

hey when i9500 will get updated to KK?? :/
