Sprint’s HTC One Gets Official Kit Kat Update First Over the Weekend

htc one

Even though the Kit Kat (Android 4.4) update for the HTC One reached the “certification” stage a couple of weeks back, followed by a confirmation last week from HTC USA president Jason Mackenzie that the update was still about a week out, HTC went ahead and surprised us on Saturday morning with an announcement that the Sprint variant was receiving a build already. The other carrier variants are more than likely still a week or two away, but Sprint was able to give approval somewhat early.

If you own the Sprint One, you can pull the update by heading into Settings-> About -> Software updates. If you miss this message, your phone will receive the update by over-the-air push on February 11.

Any bets on which variant is next?

Every time i see “HTC” in the headline I think “OMFG new M8 News” . . . but no. Happy for the Sprint Customers though. Oh and there was news over the weekend about a possible March Lauch and Release for the M8, they may not announce at MWC

Sooner the better. Need to see if it is indeed my next device or not. Will definitely hold off until we know for sure about a GPe version and bootloader status though.

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I’ll be keeping my N5 for a long time for the stock experience and if I feel for that on a particular day i’ll just pop the SIM over. But I like the new sense a lot, so i’m not too concerned about stock experience or bootloader status honestly.

I’ve got the One and the N5 as well. Keep going back to the One. Hate the speaker on the N5…think they blew it with that one (volume goes from silent to glaring when playing Asphalt 8 due tot he placement of the damned thing depending on which way I am turning).

Being able to convert my One to GPe was killer though and I’d love to be able to do that with the M8 as well.

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

2 things wwrong with the speakers on the N5…they are terrible lol and they are in a terrible place. I ALWAYS put my hands over them by mistake.

I know this much. Verizon will be last

    • Diablo81588

Interesting, since they were the first to release the moto x kit Kat update.

      • ToddAwesome

stop it, that doesn’t fit his argument.

      • jimt

You really think that will happen again? Verizon did that to stop the flow of people to Nexus 5 and other carriers because they had no device with Kit kat and no Nexus.

        • http://meatcastle.com/ Youre My Boy Bloo

Agreed. Also, being butt buddies with Moto probably hurried things along a bit as well.

Maybe Sprint is so desperate and fearful of losing customers that when they receive an update from a manufacturer, they’re just like “meh, looks like it works, send it out there”

  • KingofPing

Hoping it’s T-Mobile, but only because that is what I am currently using and they’ve been trying real hard lately to make a name for themselves.

Being last on updates would not really go towards helping that goal (Ya listening, Legere?).

That said, if they end up being among the last in line I would still grudgingly understand why: Wifi Calling. – The rest of their “apps” are usually downloadable in the Play store (and work in KK already), so this would really be their only excuse…

(That said, I’d still prefer they work out some way to do the same with the WiFi Calling app so our friends on the GPe One could utilize it while stock…)

Goooooooooooooooooo Seahawks!!!! I told everybody we’d shut Manning down and we did baby!!!!!!!!!!

    • Cesar

How is this relevant to HTC’s KitKat update?

      • RadicalPie

        How is it not relevant

      • Intellectua1

        Broncos fan ^^

        • ToddAwesome

Poor Peyton, always poops himself when it matters most.

          • fred

so he doesn’t have a super bowl ring?

          • ToddAwesome

Beating the teddy Bears obviously doesn’t count.

          • Super Bowl 43 Fixed

            POOR PEYTON???!!!!

He’s rich for throwing that superbowl game now. He was even heard asking the seahawks coach “when do we get paid?”

        • Cesar

Good job assuming random stuff. I actually don’t care about football at all. You’re just being off topic.

    • JoshGroff

That game was sad to watch, and the commercials were mediocre, but how about them Chili Peppers?!!!

      • John Legere

Fuq yeah! Love me some RHCP!

    • fred

      we? what number were you?

    • John Legere

Peyton is still one of the greatest QBs in the league and has a super bowl ring.

    • LionStone

That just means the Seahawks AND the Broncos suck! :-)

  • Ray Gray

    Poor sprint
