Samsung Unveils the 7-inch Galaxy Tab3 Lite, a Suitable Beginners’ Android Tablet

Galaxy Tab 3 Lite

Make that five different tablets that Samsung has announced this past month – there is the Galaxy NotePro 12.2, the Galaxy TabPro 12.2, the TabPro 10.1, the TabPro 8.4, and now the newest addition to the family, the Galaxy Tab3 Lite. The Tab3 Lite is most certainly an entry level device, running specs that would send most Android enthusiasts running for the hills. For starters, it sports a 7″ display with a resolution of just 1024 x 600, while also running Android 4.2 with TouchWiz on top. Should you expect an update to Kit Kat? I wouldn’t put money on it.

Other specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 2MP rear-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot for up to 32GB of storage, 3G HSPA+ radios, and a 3,600mAh battery.

From the overall package Samsung is showing off here, our hope is that this tablet comes in with a very low retail price. Once pricing and availability are announced, we will let you know.

Are you interested in a cheapy tablet running TouchWiz and Android 4.2?

Dual core what? If its like the Tab 3 7″, its that generic MediaTek chip. Samsung needs to stop listing such generic spec’s and list the actual CPU.

I rather “beginners” buy this (with the Play Store) than a similarly priced Kindle Fire without the Play Store. That said, I think 7″ tablets around the $200 quality point should be as low as we go until Apple has similar lite tablets to be criticized as well.

Even if they do buy one of these instead of a Kindle Fire, you’re just ensuring their next tablet will be an iPad.

  • Blue Sun

“Should you expect an update to Kit Kat? I wouldn’t put money on it.” Too bad because this device fits perfectly with Google’s vision of lower end devices running Kit Kat.

4.2 jellybean, 1gb of ram, 8gb of storage, 2mp rear camera and no front facing camera. lets not all jump in line at once! my galaxy nexus has better specs than this. smh! come on samsung.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

This thing better be under $100

  • Ray Gray

    Free 99 or FAIL

  • Chris Hannan

Some of the trolls on BGR talk about Samsung shipping millions of phones to resellers and then buying them back, just to swap out the casing and resell them. They’re wrong.

Samsung apparently does do that with tablets, though. I feel like this article came straight out of 2011.

  • Just_Some_Nobody

Samsung, come on! You _make_ displays! You can use a higher res display and still make some money. Pathetic.

These types of entry level, low spec tabs are what give Android a bad wrap and drive people to iPads. Nobody will enjoy these POS’s.

    • Philip J. Fry

What really sucks is that some people actually will enjoy them in turn telling samsung they need to make more :(

  • paul_cus

    Nice try, Samsung.

      Was it, though?

  • Menger40

Average consumer isn’t going to know how to evaluate tablets very well, and may just pick the cheapest thing they see from a name they’ve heard of. Judging from the specs, that would be this.

    • Adrynalyne

That is exactly it, and why it is so pathetic that these companies prey on those people.

  • Droid Ronin

Funny that a little more than 2 years ago, I spent $450 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 which has a Tegra 2 processor and Touchwiz on top of Honeycomb 3.1. But thanks to the developer community, it’s running JB 4.3 today like a champ.

  • Keith Taylor

I thought that the regular Galaxy Tab 3 specs were entry level enough…You can find that one for 149.00 sometimes. This should be about 99 bucks…No thanks

  • John Legere

I’ll pay $30 to let my cat play with it

    • Craig

My cat’s too stupid (paying Per-KB data to have an EnV3 on Verizon) for a Tablet. :(

  • Philip J. Fry

    Samsung has gone full retard.

    • Cesar

      Never go full retard.

    • T4rd

I thought that happened a couple years ago.

      • michael arazan

Touchwiz is full retard, eats up a minimum of 800 mb of ram with bloatware turned off and, and most of the crap you can turn off like s memo and other stuff and that’s with all my personal apps turned off as well. If you just close it, it all turns back on again. The sg3 I received from asurion for a broken GNex is so annoying coming from vanilla android. Touchwiz is like a fat kid locked in a candy store, keeps getting bigger and slower.

    • Gideon Waxfarb

      It’s too bad… I was kinda hoping they’d release a 7″ with a Snapdragon CPU.

  • Matthew Rebmann

Samsung = over-saturated product lines. Specifically tablets.
