Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch Price Lowered to $299 During CES Promo

Toq

Usually priced at a steep $349.99, the Toq smartwatch from Qualcomm is quite the high-end device. With its Mirasol display, to its quirky wristband that you must cut in order to size to your wrist, the watch is being adopted at a steady pace it would seem for anyone willing to drop that kind of cash.

In a sweet move, Qualcomm is now offering the device through its website and Amazon for the price of just $299 as a CES promo. That’s a solid $50 off full retail.

To celebrate the International Consumer Electronics Show, taking place in Las Vegas this week, we are delighted to announce a special offer of $50 off the regular retail price of the black Qualcomm® Toq™ smartwatch.

This price promotion will be available this week only, January 6-11, 2014.*

If you have been debating the Toq’s price and was waiting for a deal on them, now would be the time. Although, I personally would hold off until we know for sure what Pebble plans to announce this morning at CES.

Still a solid $100 USD too expensive.

it is still too expensive IMO.

Unless we see a mammoth drop in specs or functionality, or someone starts subsidizing the cost, I don’t see these dropping below $300 for at least 2 or 3 years.

After seeing the Galaxy Gear ski trip ad, I think I’m going to have to skip the whole smart watch thing for fear of being branded a stalker or attempted rapist.

Got a refurbished Gear for 200 a couple weeks ago on slickdeals. I must say, this thing isnt nearly as bad as people say. In fact it works really well. Some of the interactions are functions could be improved, but for a 1.0 device, it works as advertised and the build quality is fantastic.

If you don’t have a S4 or N3, you’re out of luck on most of the functionality.

This is my problem. Samsung is stuck with the Apple mentality of “Lets make it only work with our stuff!”. Motorola did the same thing with the MotoActiv and I never bought one of those for that same reason (though I think Motorola opened it up eventually). Samsung would be smart to have this work with as many phones as possible, not just a few select one.

I’m sure it works well, but I just don’t see it as being useful in my daily life. I may give it a shot when there are refurbs available for $100 or so. That commercial still doesn’t go a long way toward making the product look useful outside of stalking.

The main utility that the smartwatch seems to provide is it keeps your phone in the pocket. At work, I get a lot of email and notifications, I dont necessarily need to pull out the phone for all of them. At the gym it’s handy since I can control the music with the watch instead of pulling phone out. Also has a timer which is handy… It’s one of those things that no one REALLY needs though. It’s probably still more of a novelty.

          • morpheus282

I can see it being useful in those situations, but I seldom receive an e-mail that can’t wait 15 minutes until I check all my messages at one time and I really don’t want to use a $200+ device for music when I’m getting all sweaty. I’m not sure what the water/sweat resistance of the Gear or my phone are rated for but I’d prefer not to find out. Either way, the smartwatch and even Glass just don’t seem to be something that I’d get much use from unless I want to sneak a few shots of some chick on the stairmaster.

If that thing got priced at $150 I’d be all in.

$299 for something that likely won’t be supported by anyone for very long? no thanks
